Phentermine--update

Hey ladies so I met with a doctor today to discuss the possibility of going on phentermine. Well, the pill name barely escaped my lips before she started shaking her head. The place REFUSES to perscribe that pill to anyone-- with apparent good reason. They just found that the pill has some SERIOUS long term effects-- including heart problems/failure. She said I could go somewhere else to get it but she wouldn't recommend it. Obviously after having this talk with her there's no way I'm doing it. Also-- did all of you know that if you are on that pill and have to take a drug test you can test positive for methamphetamines b/c they are so similar? I think that speaks volumes in and of itself. Anyways, I'm going back to keeping better track of what I eat and exercising more.. possibly still on Alli. PLEASE think twice... no THREE times before going on this pill!

yikes! Great advice! I'm glad you have a good doctor who seriously considers side effects before prescribing anything. Too many doctors these days are pill happy and give a patient anything they want, I think that makes them a DEALER not a doctor, LOL...sounds like you've been on an awesome track already NAB so keep up the good work!

holy SNAAAP! i had no idea about the drug testing! wow! so glad i always see those commercials on TV! you know, my mom told me today, she's used envy(sp?) and did ok with it, but she switched to allie, and she's doing fantastic! about 12 pounds in the last 6 weeks! which is good for her, despite her dogged work(she does home cleaning after a major remodel, before family rehabitates), she's never been able to lose more than 5-10 pounds every few months, and gains it back soon after she loses it! there's a shot/pill combo i want to try, my g/f did it for 6 months, and lost 80 pounds over the course of 9 months total. idk if it's phentermine, i highly doubt it, because she has heart problems in her family to begin with...i havent talked to her in over 18 months, but based on pictures another friend showed me, she's doing great and looks fantastic!

NAB - How is Alli working for you?? I've heard mixed reviews about it...some that have prevented me from ever wanting to try it. But, then again, side effects are different w/each person. So, just curious as to how it's working for you and/or others who are using it?

I was on this pill for almost 6 months and found that it was truly addicting. It wouldnt speed up my heart rate so much but I would feel jittery and full of energy until it wore off. Finally after I lost about 30 or more pounds, this was from the pill alone (no diet change or exercise) I came off the pill. Thats when all my problems began. It was as if my body was going through detox. I had swollen feet for about 3 weeks straight (cankles) then I had a mad appetite for all types of food that I hadnt eaten in forever. My mood would swing from east to west at the drop of a dime and trying to get me NOT to cry took an act of GOD!! I would definitely not reccomend this medication to anyone. Yes you will loose the weight but its not the right route to go. Your body goes through so many changes and can become addicted to this drug. Now that Ive been off the pill...ive gained all the weight back plus 8 pounds. This go round I decided to change eating habits and constant exercise.

My sister-in-law went on Isagenics program http://www.isagenixcleanse.net/?source=google&gclid=CM2VvdeK4Z0CFado5QodW0cCNg
and not only she lost a lot of weight successfully, her whole figure has re-shaped nicely! It is not a pill, it's a diet/supplement program with coach being in contact with you for possible questions at all times. A bit costly as far as I know, but extremely healthy and works great!

I've tried isagenix...and although it did help (lost 10lbs in 12 days)...the "cleanse" drinks are SUPER gross! Unbearably gross. So, if u have a high tolerence to nasty tastes...it really does work. I had to give up because I couldn't stand drinking it any longer! :-(

I knew about the drug testing hint the word :Phentermine as in amphertermine, all in the same family. The doctor I saw gave me a note that stated I was in a weight loss program and was taking the pill daily. I work in Law enforcement so my chances of being drug tested are higher than most

Alli is iffy... when I first started taking it it helped me lose a few pounds..... but after that it hasn't really seemed to make a difference. I stopped taking it for awhile cuz it wasn't doing anything, but I recently started it again. I will let you know if it works

You HAVE to be super careful what you eat when you're taking Alli. If you slip and go over your allotted meal fat content you'll get really sick...and in the least pleasant way.

I can't even take cold meds bc it is laced with phetemine's...this isn't a new thing. That's way back when the kids from HS started dying from heart attacks on the basketball court, etc. from weight loss meds. Any of the weight loss pills (including water pills) affect your heart. Diet, moderation, and exercise is the way although it's not as EASY.

Over-the-counter diet pills: Preparations containing phenylpropanolamine (e.g., Acutrim, Dexatrim) in dosages of 75 mg or higher have been known to increase blood pressure to dangerous levels and even cause stroke. Herbal preparations such as Phen-Fen, Phen-Cal, or PhenTrim contain ephedrine, derived from the ephedra (also known as Ma Huang) herb, which can increase heart rate and blood pressure to dangerous levels, possibly leading to psychotic behavior, Seizures, heart attack, stroke, and death.

Fenfluramine (Pondimin), combined with another anti-obesity drug called phentermine (Phentrol, Fastin, Ionamin, Adipex), prevents the body from absorbing dopamine and norepinephrine, resulting in the sensation of being energized, while reducing the craving for sugar. Most of these drugs have been removed from the market (however, Fastin, Ionamin, Adipex, are still available) because of reports of heart problems (damage to the valves of the heart) and lung problems (i.e., pulmonary hypertension).
I'm sorry...but this isn't new info....been around for a while. Bad news - excercise is good for the heart...

i have been on this pill for about 2 months and i still cant seem to lose weight only about 6lbs. i was on it before about a year ago and lost 30 lbs in like a month. i knew when i had to sign a little paper saying that i would not sue the dr that the chances were high that something bad could happen. but i have other medical problems that i need to get the weight off for so i picked to do it only now no weight seems to come off.
