need prayers
My father has been sick the last few days. He's been weezing and short of breath on top of common cold/flu symtoms.. well he finially went to the doc today, only to be told to get his rear end up to the ER.. they are now keeping him until farther notice. His' Oxygen is low and he's been running a fever, they took xrays and a cat scan. We don't know much but...... My mom went out and asked for some crakers or something for him since he hasn't ate all day and it's now after 5pm he's getting the shakes.. Well they told her they can't allow him to eat just yet due to looking for blood in his chest or lungs not sure exactally... (mom's not a good repeater...) so they know something is up and have yet to inform us.. I'm the baby of 6 kids.. They won't allow more then 2 people in the room.. it sucks cuz my 2 borthers and myself and my mom were all in there then my brother in law showed and then my uncle (whom does not bother AT ALL) with my father or anyone..

(whom does not bother AT ALL) with my father or anyone.. My dad was raised in a forster home, his real family doesn't bother one bit but he found out and showed up.. (nothing wrong just weird) cuz I'm outside on the phone and he's asking me if I'm Gundy's daughter (well said my last name) I'm like yea who are you? Sad when I don't even know my own uncle I saw him like once in my 25 yrs on earth..
ANYWAY.. my dad's on oxygen and has to wear the mask thing for an hour every soo often.. they took tons of blood and now he's waiting to be admited to a regular room. Been in the er since 1230pm and after 5 still in an er room.. crazyness.. but glad he deiceded to stay he wasn't going to. my one bro and i talked him into it.. he's stubbarn.. 65 yrs old hardly ever at the docs.. who knows what is wrong...

Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers.. I didn't know where else to turn too..
Thank you ladies...

Patty

I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers..

Hopefully these are a few words of hope for you, as and ER nurse it is the norm to keep patients from eating and drinking until there is a better understanding of what is going on. for example, certain CT scans you cant have anything in your stomach for a min of 4 hours - so if they did give him something to eat/drink and then decided he would need another CT scan, he would have to wait in the ER (on the uncomfortable stretchers) for another 4 hours. He is most likely getting fluids through an IV for now - which helps to keep him hydrated.

With all the economic problems going on right now, ppl out of jobs, no insurance, the ER's have becom extremely busy (we cant turn anyone away for care) 4 hours in an ER is about norm, the ER that I work in, the avg visit is 6 hours! I have gone in some nights with 30 ppl waiting to be seen, and every single room full, with pts even in the hallways on stretchers!

(cont)

Im sure they probably took between 5- 10 vials of blood from you dad - this is normal to for just about every pt I see in the ER. Easy way to think of it, is that each vial is about less than a teaspoonful of blood, so in actuality it is not as much as you think. Everyone always says to me that is sooooo much blood you are taking and I try to explain it to them that way - it puts things into a little better perspective.

He is in one of the best places he could be in. I know being on the other side of the picture can be tough (patient and pt's family) and Im sure it feels like it is taking a long time for everything - and you want to know why results are not done immediately after a test is done. I just ask please be patient, and the Dr's will learn whats causing his symptoms and treat him accordingly. I truly hope that all the nurses are providing great care! My motto as a nurse is to treat my patients as I would want myself or my family to be treated

anyway..we got back up there after dinner and all.. They told us that he has a blood clot in his lungs and they're giving him a blood thinner pill, they gave him a shot in the belly and some other meds. he's on breathing treatments every 4 hrs.. Not sure how long they will keep him but he's defintially lucky they caught in time.. Will be going up after our morning holiday parade.. since visiting hrs is 11am to 830pm even tho we were there til 10 when he started getting drowsy after they gave him meds..

Jenn146939 knows what she is talking about. I am also a nurse and work on an observation unit (kinda overflow for the ER). The blood thinner in the tummy maybe called Lovenox. They have the prevent any other blood clots. It is good that they are doing neb treatments and probably doing some antibiotics in his IV line. ER is always packed and the big thing is to get him on the proper floor that can help him the best. As far as not getting to eat Jen was correct in that too. Its better to have the starve just a little to get all the tests done then have to wait for 6-8 hours after eating and delay test taking/ knowing what is going on. Make sure family ask doctors what is going on and course of treatment. Write down questions to ask the physicians so you don't forget. They tend to come in and out so fast and many people forget until it is too late and they are gone for the day. My prayers are with you and your family. Try to stay as active in the process as you can.

FATHER GOD, IN THE NAME OF JESUS, WE ASK THAT YOU LAY HANDS AND BLESS THE FATHER AND FAMILY OF Esgal4life. WE ASK THAT YOU HEAL HIS BODY. WE SPEAK AND WE COMMAND, IN THE NAME OF JESUS, THAT SATAN, YOU TAKE YOUR FILTHY HANDS OFF THAT CHILD OF GOD. HE IS THE CHILD OF THE LIGHT, NOT OF THE DARKNESS. WE BELIEVE AND HAVE FAITH THAT HE WILL BE HEALED OFF ALL SICKNESSES, ALL PAINS, AND ALL AILMENTS, IN THE NAME OF JESUS BECAUSE YOU SAID WITH YOUR STRIPES WE ARE HEALED. IN JESUS NAME MY HUSBAND, ME AND EVERYONE WHO PRAYED FOR YOU, AMEN!
