Need help Venue/wedding planner/ etc.

Ok I am in the St. Louis area and I have found a venue that I really love that I wanted to have my ceremony and recpt. at. Well after looking at the cost I may change some things around to do the ceremony at the church, and have the recept and morning after brunch at the venue. I wanted a wedding planner to kinda help out and give input and advice where need be because I have no clue what I am doing but I have an idea of what I want things to look like. Are planners really expensive? What all do a planner help do? Should I try and do all or most everything myself/Is it worth even having a planner?

While if you have a budget I say forget about the planner. I think the only good thing that can come from them is the day of when they make sure things go smooth. I found this really good web site and they have a ebook you can download and read print what ever you want and they help you though everything. Plus you should put together a wedding binder and the best part about this book they have work sheets you can print off and put into your binder.

Also you can download a few wedding planning soft ware. I have found this one.

Hi SoontobeMrs.,
Every bride is different and has different comfort levels with the planning process. As a makeup artist, I am right there with the bride on her big day. That said, if you can fit a wedding planner into your budget, then do it. The pricing will depend on many factors, ie. experience, service needed, etc. Many brides opt for the Day of Coordinators. Although, they will do the bulk of the work on your wedding day, they also help with the planning process and can help guide you. My advice is for you to call around. There are many great people listed here on WW. Or, you can send them an e-mail. Explain exactly what you are looking for. Most coordinators have pre-set packages to fit every budget. I believe that hiring a DOC makes a huge difference. The day of your wedding you should be relaxing and primping. Leave the worrying to the professional.
I wish you the best.

SoontobeMrs,
First Congrats on the engagement and upcoming wedding :-)
In my opinion having a coordinator is based on a few things - 1) your availability to plan 2) your organization 3) how you handle stress and 4) how you execute plans
Each bride is different...Think about which will help you more in YOUR planning process some brides need sounding boards, some need only the day of services, some have a plethora of friends that will help with everything.
A few things to think about if you do decide to go with a planner: First is that the planner should be a part of the budget from the beginning and not an afterthought (will likely be 8-15% of budget). If you are going to spend the $ make sure the planner has the time to actually plan for you. You are paying for a service you should be treated accordingly. Get references and spend time with the coordinator to feel them out.
Good luck with everything and God Bless!

I am a realistic Wedding Planner and I strongly believe that weddings should not cost a Fortune...they should just look like you spent a Fortune. My fees are not based on your budget size it's based on what you can afford...I work with all types of budgets. I suggest you only hire a full Wedding Planner if you know that you do not have the time to handle all of the many details...which at time can drive you insane!!
But if you got what it take girl... then GO FOR IT! No matter what you are going to need a Day of Coordinator to come in an handle all of the day of kios so you can relax and enjoy your day. So after you begin planning your wedding and later on down the line you find out the details are overwhelming and you definitely need help then you can always change your mind and get one later. But for now if you just need help in getting started and want to share your ideas and suggestions then I'm only a email away.

Take care and good luck!
