Hmmm..How do I not cry?
I know I'm a long way off until my wedding, But I was thinking today, how do you keep yourself from crying and becoming a mess? Any one have some tips?
P.S: I read some where, if you are having a hard time not squinting during photos, place a black jacket on the ground in front of you (not in the photo area though) and when you need a break from squinting look down at the jacket and up again. Just an FYI

I am confused about the squinting???? But don't worry about crying. I was so worried that I would break down and not be able to talk or say my vows because I'd be crying so much. I also feared I'd cry all the way down the aisle. I'm a big cryer. And I was the picture of calmness!! I didn't cry at all, my hubsand on the other hand cried and had to pause for quite a while to gather himself before finishing his vows. So don't worry!! You have no idea what will happen once you're up there. Just make sure your MOH has a kleenex on hand just in case.

Hmm, I fully expected to cry during the ceremony but somehow I didn't. I was too full of nervous energy, but another thing that helped was not looking at FH directly as he was saying his vows, which was the only time i felt like I MIGHT cry. I kept looking at his boutonniere instead, LOL. As for the father/daughter dance, forget it. I bawled. But we left that till after the cake cutting and other dinner activities so that my makeup wouldn't get too ruined. Good luck! :-)

Thanks potters! I edited my post, I forgot to add "Squinting when taking photos" lol, I hope it makes sense now! I don't remember the whole article, but it explained how looking at the black jacket helped you to not squint.

I'm worried about lauging! I never thought about crying, but I have yet to see a bride cry, usually its someone in the wedding party or the parents.

I was really worried that I would breakdown. I ended up blinking back tears but managed to control it because I couldnt stop smiling. You never know what will happen when you get up there. I cried everytime I watched a wedding show and they said their vows but held it together for ours.

Not sure what you mean by squinting in photos... you mean like if the sun is really bright?

I am just preparing myself with water proof makeup and my MOH with tissues just in case.. Also when we say our vows I am pretty sure I will get emotional because my FH is not that outspoken and if I see him get chocked (sp) up I will cry

Yup, yada if it's bright out, I guess looking at the black and then quickly back up the photog will get you not squinting

I for some reason do not have a squinting problem, although my FH does. I just think if it is bright you are able to open your eyes for a split second. It is just bright! I don't get it, lol. But I have heard just closing your eyes and if she counts "1....2....3" open them real quick at 3. But most photographers take like 10 pictures in 1 second, so I wouldn't worry about it too much. She/he will get the best shot.

Huh, I didn't even think of that! I guess we were lucky that our day was overcast :-) Yeah, you'll want to talk to your photog about that. The other thing is that they take a million shots of the same poses, so hopefully at least ONE of them turns out ok!!

I actually cried during the rehearsal :) so by the next day I was all good. However, my husband cried and could barely make it through his vows. It was so sweet.

One of my older coworkers gave me some sage advice on this.
"Nothing is more beautiful than a tearful bride. Nothing is uglier than a bride making a squinty frown face holding back tears. If you need to cry, cry!"
I have to agree with her. :)

I always hold back the tears, but when I asked my MOH I ended up crying...That's not good, I'll be a mess up there especially if FI starts crying!

swallow, your tear gland will clear up and therefor you will have no tears, just a little watery eyes.

As Officiant I see first hand brides cry, laugh, and try to hold back. Honestly, you will not know what will happen until you are standing there. Emotions are running so high at that time. The majority of brides & grooms shed a few tears. Keep a hankie handy. I have never seen one dress get ruined from a few tears. You simply use your hankie and pat your eyes. There is nothing worse then the expressions and voice tone of someone trying to hold it back. Your voice will sound choked up and the face gets squishy, the lips and jaw tense up, don't hold back for goodness sakes. They are tears of joy that you have waited so long for. Just relax, and enjoy your day.

Whatever happens happens. I get emotional now just thinking about it. I will just have to wait and see. I know though that if he is crying as I walk down the aisle I will be crying. But I really don't care.

Brides cry...I wish there was a way to stop it. Think positive and know you will be beautiful with or without tears. Do not forget waterpoof make-up!
