Grooms Cake?
What is the grooms cake for? Is it just a cake for him because he doesn't like the wedding cake? I have some pamphlets from a couple bakeries and they both mention grooms cakes but I've never heard of them or know what they are for!

Is just something special that you want to do for your future husband. You don't have to do it. For instance my fh loves to play pool so i am getting him a cake in the shape of the pool balls, well its going to be cupcakes.

A grooms cake is for him but not because he wont like the wedding cake. Its so he can have his stamp on the reception as well. Its just something nice for a bride to do for her FH and kind of a way to say thank you

I am getting mine one, our baker couldn't make what I wanted because 'it' was licensed but anyways, I am getting him a 3 layered chocolate cake with a chocolate mousse filling and I am having it delivered to the restaurant that we are having our rehearsal dinner at as a surprise, the staff at the restaurant told me no problem and that after we eat and they clear the tables, they will bring it out as a surprise to him :)

My FH and I chose to do a Groom's cake so that there would be enough cake to feed everyone and the main Wedding cake wouldn't have to be huge. In the end it saved us a few hundred dollars.

We have found that the chocolate fountains have replaced the grooms cake in some instances. Generally the grooms cake reflects something that groom relates to, for instance here it's not unusual to have a college football related to the school where the groom graduated. However when doing bridal shows, the groom may comment; I'm not interested in a groom's cake, but I want to have one of these fountains.

The Groom's Cake is petty much a "southern thing". Tradition has it that's it's a "gift" from the bride to the groom. No one, however, said it had to be a "cake". How about stacks of Krispy Kreme Doughnuts, Cheesecake, Mini Key Lime Pies or even stacks of Krystal Hamburgers! Have fun with it!

It's not necessarily a "southern thing". We were married 30 years ago in northern Illinois and had a groom's cake. It was quite common. A lot of the time grooms prefer chocolate flavored cake and traditional wedding cakes are generally something other than chocolate. My wife just did a white wedding cake, but the bride ordered a chocolate groom's cake because both the bride and groom preferred chocolate but thought the guests would prefer to have white.

I see it as a "gift/treat" from the bride to the groom. I'm having a cake made with a Dallas Cowboys theme since that is his favorite football team. I am also keeping it a surprise, although he knows I am having one made, he doesn't know of what.

I love the idea of it being something that is just for him (like his favorite flavor cake and decorated like his favorite sports team).
What brought this whole question about was that one of the bakeries that was at a bridal fair I went to was offering a show special that if you booked them before the end of the month they either gave you 10% off the order price or gave you a free grooms cake. I asked my FH if he wanted one and he said he didn't know what it was and didn't think it was necessary. But I think if I surprised him with his favorite team he might really like that his team was incorporated into the wedding!

Exactly! Since most of the time it's the bride who is all into the planning and excitment of the wedding (although I know there some GROOM-ZILLAS, my FH can be one sometimes), it's nice to remind the groom that he was not forgotten during all the stressful planning.
