centerpieces
i am having trouble coming up with or finding celestial centerpieces that do not look cheesy. my colors are deep blue and purple with hints of silver and black everywhere. on each table, i am going to have 4 paper lanterns with lights in them in like a diamond shape and i want something that will stand taller than those but will still look nice with everything else. im on a tight budget. i was thinking about a laotian (since my future hubby is laotian) pottery of some sort with the national flower but thats way too expensive. i want something i could make myself. i was thinking a fish bowl with blue and purple stones, water colored blue with floating star candles. the bowl would be on top of a mirror with confetti and tulle over it, but i dont know if i want that. i want something different but something that would still look nice and elegant. any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

This is neat, there is a star in the middle, maybe you can make something similar.

Traci, I love the second one you posted.

@kefitz, maybe you could do something like that but tint the water blue or purple. Maybe do a grouping of 3 tall vases surrounded by votives.

Yea, I think the gold one is really pretty :) Thanks ladies :) What they did to them is glued glitter on the cylinders and stars :)

you could cover some boxes or stands of any sort with your color fabric to give you the height you need and then put a small bowl with candles or some votives on the stand. or even put some colored candy in the bowls and then you have your favors and desserts!

i really love the second one you posted traci! i definitely may use that one! the only thing is, would it look good with the paper lanterns that i am making for the tables as well? i am using the lanterns for the lighting on the tables....i want the lighting in the room to be dim so everyone can see the candle and christmas lights im using everywhere. if i did use that idea, i think i may use vallynn's idea of covering boxes with fabric, and i may use the fabric im using to make the ring bearer pillow to make it tall enough. i dont know, i really like it, but could i make that on a budget? i would love to see some more ideas for some celestial centerpieces, too!

Could you take a picture of your lanterns so we can see what you already have? It's hard to picture.

Don't do the bowl in the center it always looks sparse. I am in full agreement with the candles. You can buy small votive holders from the dollar store or Wal-Mart for 30-40cents each and then buy a bunch of little votives to go in there for a minimal amount of money and they could be scattered around the actual center piece.
If you are going with a sparse center piece make sure your linens are nice to make the table pop!
Good LUCK!
(regardless, these details aren't what is the most important so have fun with it and don't stress)

I think the tall cylinders shown in the picture with the star floating candles would be nice, but I didn't think about this when I posted before, kefitz, if you are certain you want to use the laterns for light, then I wouldn't use the cylinderw ith candles, I think it will be too much lighting going on. I would use either or hon.

i was thinking about that, too. i love the idea of it but i think it would be too much light, too.

this is a similar picture of what the lanterns are going to look like. they are going to be flat on the sides, have shooting stars cut out on the bottom left corner and love spelled out in loatian across the top and to the right. i havent made any yet, but im going to get the supplies to make it soon.

i really liked the one tall candle on a mirror with the stones around it. i may just do that. that was simple, elegant, and cheap. plus it would look terrific with the lanterns!
