Anyone NOT getting a wedding band, and using only their e-ring??

mlw, on July 31, 2011 at 7:01 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 25

I am having such a hard time finding a wedding ring I like with my e-ring. The thing is, I love it just the way it is. Years ago, when I pictured this ring, it was a marquise solitaire, and a 2 baguette on each side wrap, which then serves as your wedding band. Well, my ring we found is a marquise center stone, with a baguette on each side. So, to me, it's perfect Smiley smile When I tried it on with one of Zales thinnest bands (2mm), it just didn't look right. I am worried a custom band will end up costing $$, and I am so OCD about the diamonds matching in a diamond band, I have yet to find one that would align up right with the baguettes I already have in the e-ring.

So is anyone else foregoing a traditional wedding ring, and *just* using their e-ring??

Thought about it. We got a separate band but I would've been happy with just my engagement ring. If you like your ring as is, I say do what you like. There's no sense spending money on an additional ring that you don't like and don't want.

I am getting a band to go with my e-ring, but mine was included and really finishes off the look for my set.

I say go for the e-ring only. Looking at the ring I can see how it would be difficult to find a band that looks good with it and doesn't take away from it. I couldn't imagine wearing an band with it if it were my ring.

Have you ever looked on jtv.com or do you have access to Jewelry Televison on your cable/dish/direct tv.. whatever tv service you have? We do and me and my mom watch it all the time, and I see bands on their show that are diamond and they have a variety of bands, I want to say they have some baguette bands. I'm pretty sure that JTV has a 30 day gaurantee if I'm not mistaken. It might be worth checking out!

This is the only ring I could find with baguette diamonds in a band, it also has some princess cut diamonds in it as well

If you like your ring as is, I don't see why it would be a problem not to go for the wedding band. It's really up to you in the end ...

In fact, I know in some countries in Europe (Spain in particular), the ring plays double duty for both engagement ring and wedding band, but when they're engaged they wear it on the right hand then transfer it over to the left hand on their wedding day. (Kind of a neat concept, really!)

A friend received a beautiful antique diamond ring as her engagement ring. There was no wedding band that would look right withe the engagement ring. So, they used it in the wedding ceremony and it is the only ring she wears.

One of my girlfriends is doing this. Her e ring is beautiful and a band just takes away from it.

FH doesn't see the point in buying another ring for the wedding ("but you already have a ring, why do you need a second one?) but the band that matches mine looks REALLY REALLY nice with my e-ring so I reeeeally want it if we can afford it after paying for the wedding.

If you don't think a band will look right with it, then there is absolutely nothing wrong with just wearing your e-ring! And even, if you wanted to, you could always buy a plain band that you wear in times when you can't/don't want to wear your e-ring.

I've seen quite a few girls that no longer wear wedding bands - just their engagement ring and I think it looks just as lovely. Sometimes the band really takes away from the beauty of the ring.

I thought about not doing the band but my engagement ring diamond is just about 2ct. and I want to have the option of just wearing a simple platinum band.

We did it the opposite way--never had e-rings, but got wedding bands. Our feeling was that the engagement was only a promise to get married, so the wedding band (symbolizing the actual marriage) was more important. However, I have seen several women who use the engagement ring as their wedding band. If it works for you, go for it!

I'm having the same problem with my e-ring. Two things I've considered:

    1. If we can afford it, get something made. I have two diamonds on the outside of the band (not to the left and right of the center diamond as yours is, but kind of on the front and back of the band, so wearing another ring would mean that the diamond on that side would constantly be rubbed and bumped by the other ring; which really makes me nervous, haha.

    2. For the wedding ceremony itself, use a plain silver band. This way I can wear the silver band by itself when doing things like working out, cooking, or any other kinds of activities I wouldn't want to be wearing my e-ring for.

It's really up to you. Don't waste money on something you don't love, since you'll be wearing it for the rest of your life! Smiley winking

There are people who don't wear any ring, too, so whatever you like best is what you should do.

No wedding band for me. I love my e ring as is and feel trying to add anything would detract from it.

I'm the other way around. I wish I had just opted for only the wedding band. The e-ring is quite large and as I'm not used to jewelry I'm still not accustomed to wearing it. I can't wait for the wedding so I can lock it away in the safe. But, I feel bad because I know FH spent so much on it. Guess I can wear it on special occassions. On the plus side, since both rings were custom designed they fit beautifully together.

Just the E-ring for me! I'm not a huge jewelry gal and my E-ring is simple and elegant, I don't want to wear any other ring. I have tried to find something for it but it either makes it too gaudy or it just looks stupid.. I'm happy with the one. He picked it out himself so it makes it extra special to me. Smiley smile

I'm not getting a second band. Because of the shape and size of my e-ring, it was hard to find some bands that compliment it. I found a few, but they made my ring look way over the top super blingy. I really don't need diamonds halfway from knuckle to knuckle.

We have engagement rings but we are buying all new rings for the wedding so there will be no bands.
