I have seldom come across anyone who is as good at anything as Melissa is at wedding photography. She was one of the first vendors we secured, and we are so lucky we did. She has a remarkable talent for taking photos in low-light situations, like under a redwood canopy or on a dance floor. She has a quiet, kind presence, and she is a natural at making people around her feel comfortable. During the portrait shoot, she knew exactly when to pause and remind people to take a deep breath and release their shoulders. I almost never noticed her moving around taking candids during the reception.
The photos she took are absolutely stunning. I was expecting excellent photos, but when she sent the first previews my jaw dropped. She truly captured the spirit of the celebration, and these photos will help me remember the best day of my life in vivid detail. If she has your wedding date available and you like what you see, book her right away! -

Melissa is the sweetest soul and having her energy and her manner of communicating was so grounding and comforting throughout the craziness of the wedding day itself. She made sure we didn’t get overwhelmed with taking photos all while making sure we got the shots that we wanted (the questionnaire she sent close to our wedding was so thoughtful and detailed, even being mindful of family relations/situations). It also helped that she got married at the same venue we chose, Waterfall Lodge, and knew all the best spots. We loved how she checked in with us continually throughout the wedding day to make sure all of our needs were met and we were enjoying ourselves. She also worked so well with our videographers and we love her approach to photography of capturing candid moments, showcasing the setting and the real emotions, all while being so stealthy. We highly recommend having her be your photographer and on your dream team!! Also an amazing bonus was the select preview photos she sent to us the day after the wedding so we already had something to share and to look back on! -

Melissa was the most phenomenal photographer. Honestly, if you are reading this you must be considering her - and let us save you some time, GO BOOK HER you will be so glad you did. She gave us STELLAR wedding photos - they are incredibly stunning and lovely. As she is a documentary photographer, she perfectly captured the emotions of each moment and caught so many wonderfully candid photos. We MUCH prefer to now have these types of real feeling photos rather than overly staged photos - our favorite photos are moments she captured where we are laughing or looking at each other during speeches. That said, she took really beautiful portraits of us as well, she has an incredible eye and picked the most beautiful scenery for the backgrounds. We are drawn to the candids, but trust us SHE CAN DO IT ALL.
We also did an engagement session with Melissa the year before our wedding. We’ve never had professional photos taken before and wanted a practice run before the big day. The photos were equally beautiful (even without the hair, makeup, etc we had on wedding day!) and she coached us through how to have our pictures taken and helped us still feel natural. We are so glad we opted to book that with her!
Not only were the photos absolutely breathtaking, but she was such a joy to work with as a human. Melissa is incredibly kind, gracious, and thoughtful. She is exactly the type of person we needed (and wanted) as someone who was closely with us for the entirety of our wedding day. She knew exactly how to make us (and our families!) feel comfortable and relaxed during our portrait sessions, which led to really natural looking photos.
We feel SO lucky that we found Melissa and got to work with her for our wedding. Please choose her - you will be so, so thrilled. -

I can’t speak highly enough about Melissa and her photography! Melissa was an absolute pleasure to work with! She’s sweet and fun loving which made the entire process easy and feel like a dream. My husband and I are very unnatural and awkward in posed pictures and Melissa made us feel comfortable and really captured our personalities. I was initially drawn to Melissa’s photography because of her documentary and candid style. I love the emotion that she captures in the photos and the story that they tell. She captured so many great moments from the day that are my favorite to look back on, and some even make me want to cry! I never thought that I would be obsessed with my wedding pictures but I am! All thanks to Melissa (and her second shooter Jess). I highly recommend Melissa for your special day. Melissa was a dream to work with! She captured our day brilliantly, from the big moments to the small moments I missed. I am so grateful to have her artful and touching images forever. Her work speaks for itself (her shots in nature, the light, the emotions!) but more than that she was so relaxed and calm which helped my own anxiety on the day. You spend so much time with your photographer that they better feel like a friend and she did! She was supportive throughout the entire process and worked effortlessly with our other vendors. She even traveled to our venue with us for a site visit and came to scope out the spot we wanted to shoot at for our first look (which in my opinion was way above and beyond). Melissa herself was getting married very soon after my wedding and even still she prioritized her clients. Don't hesitate on hiring Melissa, she is an extremely special photographer & human being. -

Melissa has been an absolute pleasure to work with on our wedding and engagement photos. After booking our venue, the photographer was the next most important item on my list. I hate overly posed, artificial-looking wedding photos, and I could tell from Melissa's portfolio that she does not deal in cliches - instead, she has a knack for capturing real life and motion and emotion as it happens. In our engagement photos, she gave just enough direction to nudge us into feeling comfortable, and then she captured the true emotions of the moment. And dang, did she make us look good! The engagement session was perfect practice; on our wedding day, we already felt easy and comfortable with Melissa (which isn't hard, because she is kind and calm and lovely!). We opted to not have a second shooter for our 90-person wedding - Melissa captured this day beautifully, and got the photos to us in record time. Looking at the photos, I feel just how I felt on my wedding day. Thank you!! We could not have asked for a better memory of our day.

It just occurred to me that I'm not sure my wife and I ever reviewed Melissa, and we feel horrible because we LOVE her and her work!
We hired Melissa to do a very natural and fun style of photography for our wedding at Calamigos Ranch in Malibu, as well as our engagement photos at the Venice Canals, in California. We were able to work out a great rate to have her shoot us even though she was based in Santa Cruz at the time. Everybody who worked with her and her 2nd shooter (including bridal party, family members and our coordinator) loved both of them and all of our photos turned out tremendously.
Melissa was very easy to work with, communicative, versatile and took / gave direction extremely well. She captured some awesome unplanned moments that are some of our favorites ever to look back on, and of course all of the standard photos look amazing as well.
After the wedding, she was quick to get us previews and then the completed set of photos and also sent us this incredible cute and cool custom woodbox and custom flashdrive with our wedding photos and a note from her.
Having Melissa as our photographer was a wonderful experience and I highly recommend her! -
