About
 Alina's Bio

Austin wedding photographer, Alina Prax, was born on the southernmost tip of the Swiss Alps and was fed a steady diet of languages and gruyere cheese. After moving to the States at the age of 6, her parents immersed her in a life saturated with art and culture. She attended Oberlin College where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in interdisciplinary performance with an emphasis on studio art.

Alina eventually moved to Berlin where her love affair with photography began. As time passed the longing for fast food and strip malls began to surpass her desire for foreign films. Alina moved back to the States, where she studied photography at the Art Institute of Colorado and fell madly in love with a Texan cowboy. These days, Alina lives in Austin where she makes her home with her husband, daughter and French bulldog, Lily.

Alina speaks 5 languages, has taken photos all around the world and will photograph just about anything on the promise of BBQ.

Having lived in several different countries, Alina has observed a variety of wedding celebrations.

"Weddings are unique from culture to culture," she says "yet they are always joyful and magical. People of all faiths and nationalities celebrate weddings with passion because a wedding is one of those milestone moments that demarcate a life passage.

"I adore the art of documenting weddings. I get to record a historic event that is both monumental for a couple and incredibly intimate. As a life historian, a scribe and witness to such a marked occasion I translate this joy into a visual legacy. It's a real honor."

Chelsea's Bio

A born & raised Texan, Chelsea got her start designing alternative weather wear for Ready Made magazine. Branching out from her design work into photography was a natural progression for someone with as keen a sense of style as this talented designer. The current icing on Chelsea's life is her passion for weddings and cupcakes. Really really BIG cupcakes! She is a blessing to LDV with her upbeat disposition and talent for capturing magical images of kids and documenting the most intimate of weddings.

Style

Alluring, whimsical, enchanting, and timeless.

Our personal favorites, and those of our clients, are those spontaneous and unselfconscious images that capture all the genuine excitement, joy and romance of your wedding day.

La Dolce Vita specializes in boutique commissions which means we work closely with our clients and limit the number of weddings we shoot every year. By doing this, we are able to artistically process each image by hand. This means you will receive heirloom photographs that can be enjoyed for generations to come.

Philosophy

La Dolce Vita Photography is Texas' first green wedding photography studio. We are a certified carbon neutral business and purchase all of our power from Austin Energy's Green Choice program, which gets it's power from wind farms in West Texas. We use CFLs for lighting, reduce waste where we can, and recycle the rest.

In addition, we are committed to collaborating with other green vendors who share our philosophy and concern for the environment

We offer a line of environmentally responsible albums and books and our professional printing lab uses 30% pcw paper, are certified carbon-neutral, and uses none of the harsh chemicals involved with traditional photographic printing.

Additional Questions and Answers
Q: What makes La Dolce Vita Photography unique?

A: What makes us unique are our fresh, spontaneous and unselfconscious images that capture all the genuine excitement, joy and romance of your wedding day. We specialize in boutique commissions. By limiting the number of weddings we shoot, we are able to artistically process each image by hand. This means you receive heirloom photographs that are fine art prints and can be enjoyed for generations to come.

Q: Do you travel outside of Austin?

A: Absolutely! We love traveling anywhere in the world to capture your wedding or special event. However, we capture most of our weddings in central Texas near Austin.

Q: Do you shoot color pictures or only black and white?

A: We capture both color and b&w images.

Q: Do you do candid pictures as well as formal?

A: We work closely with our clients to develop a list of desired candid and formal images. Our personal favorites are pictures that capture the emotional essence of a moment while following your day's storyline. Expect images that are alluring, whimsical, enchanting, haunting and provocative.

Q: Should we do our formal portraits before the ceremony?

A: Lighting, lighting, lighting. Please keep sunset times in mind!

We recommend discussing this with your wedding coordinator to let them know you would like to have formal photographs taken an hour *before* sunset.

Q: How long have you been doing this?

A: Alina has been capturing weddings since 2003.

Q: How do you conduct yourself at a wedding? What is your approach?

A: My approach is to be as unobtrusive as possible. When direction is needed, such as during family formals, it is gently, joyfully offered. For candid shots, I am stealthy as a ninja attracting as little attention as possible so that moments continue to arise naturally and spontaneously.

Q: Will you wear appropriate attire to our event?

A: Of course! We always dress appropriately for the occasion, either we wear all black or some other demure color.

Q: What do your packages include?

A: Our custom commissions include a photography consultation, a destination engagement, wedding day coverage, online viewing of images, online print fulfillment, a DVD of your images, an assistant and/or second wedding photographer.

Available a la carte: fine art and eco albums & books, large prints, slideshows, etc...

Q: Do you offer flush mount / coffee table books?

A: Yes. We offer a beautiful selection of handmade domestic and international photographic albums & fine art books. Please contact the studio to schedule a viewing.

Q: Engagement photos??

A: This is a great opportunity to get comfortable in front of the camera and dispel any pre-wedding jitters. Plus it's fun! Sessions are typically outdoors and last approximately 2 hours.

Q: How soon will we be able to see our wedding images?

A: All images are first processed for correct exposure and color, then artistically edited individually by hand. This adds not only to the time which it takes to deliver final images, but also to the quality. Final image collections are released online approximately 4-8 weeks after your wedding day. We do however, as time permits, supply a 'sneak-peek' for you to look at shortly after your big day.

Q: How do we reserve the date?

A: Please call or email us first to check availability for your date.

Q: Do you have references?

A: Yes, we would be happy to provide references of previous clients upon request.

Q: Who will be our wedding photographer?

A: Alina Prax is the principal photographer for La Dolce Vita Photography.

Q: Equipment?

A: We use professional Canon Digital SLR Systems, the highest quality L-series lenses, and lots of backup gear! We've also been known to show up with a surprise toy camera or two!

Q: Can my friends and family view and purchase our images online?

A: Yes. You can share your wedding images with friends and family. And, they can purchase photo prints and have them delivered to their home.
