Barbara is a lovely person and a whiz with a make-up brush. As her name indicates, she treats hair and make-up as an art form. What I like is that she does not use the one-size-fits-all approach to helping you look good. She analyzes your skin and hair color, shape, and other variables, and then just magically transforms you to make you glow. I really never though make-up could make me look so good, and then voila! Her demonstration made a believer out of me. I recommend her unconditionally. |

As a photographer I work beside the make up artist for only a short while, usually moving around them during the transformation of expectation to exuberance. I have had the pleasure of working with Bridal Artistry twice, each time a self described tomboy, was changed into a blushing bride who could not believe the transformation. The pictures show a lip biting nervous bride becoming into a confident woman about to be married. Bridal Artistry and Barbara have a calm honest confidence that puts the bride at rest. She talks directly and positively without syrupy platitudes, Brides hear that calm honest tone and relax. From my end a relaxed bride is a bride for whom beautiful pictures are a moment away, I would be thrilled to work beside Bridal Artistry again, and whole heartedly hope each bride asks me for my opinion. |

Do
you travel to the client on the day of the wedding? If yes,
is there a fee?
Yes. A travel fee is only added if services are performed on-site more than 10 miles outside the DC Beltway. |
Do
you charge for trials?
We prefer to do a trial before the bride signs our contract and the fee for the trial consultation is included in our total price for the bride. However, if the bride does not sign the contract for any reason after the trial is done, there is a $90 fee for the consultation. |
How
many customers can you serve at one time, if a bride were to
book her entire bridal party?
We can handle wedding parties of any size. For larger wedding parties, we would work 2 or 3 makeup artists at once to condense the total get ready time block. Owner Barbara Hill has several associate makeup artists chosen for their skill at enhancing natural beauty in women of all ethnic backgrounds and skin types. |
How
far in advance should wedding clients make reservations?
In the Washington DC area Spring through Fall are very busy wedding months. For a Saturday wedding, you should book at least 6 months in advance. Don't delay in setting up a trial consultation, since we must work on a first-come-first-booked basis.

What
is your cancellation policy?
Once the contract is signed, a non-refundable deposit is required to hold your wedding date slot. If your party is 8 or more, 1/2 of the total amount due on the wedding day must be paid one month prior to the wedding. Because we turn down other business once your contract is signed, you understand that wedding services cancelled within 2 weeks of the date are subject to a $200 fee.. |
Additional Questions and Answers
Q: How long will it take to do makeup on the wedding day?
A: We allow 30 minutes per person made up and then add an extra 30 minutes leeway. To cut the total time for a larger wedding party, we would schedule an additional makeup artist.
Q: Do you do ethnic weddings?
A: Yes. There are 5 multi-ethnic makeup artists and hair stylists on the Bridal Artistry team. We have broad experience with ethnic weddings and enjoy the diversity!
TIPS FOR "GETTING READY TIME" ON THE WEDDING DAY
1 ~ Enjoy the pampering of on-site makeup and hair pros. Save the stress of doing it yourself or traveling to a salon.
This is YOUR day, so enjoy it to the max!
2 ~ Allow plenty of time for getting ready. Time seems to evaporate on the big day and you want to relax and have time to appreciate and enjoy the family and friends who are honoring you by being in your wedding party.
3 ~ Wear a comfortable robe or button front shirt. Don’t get "trapped" in a t-shirt with hair & makeup done! (One bride had the unique idea of giving her bridesmaids silk robes in the wedding color scheme as gifts on the day.)
4 ~ Have some favorite music playing in the background to lift everyone’s spirits. TV can be an annoying distracton for
some.
5 ~ Don’t try to do too much pampering on the wedding day. Manicures and pedicures can be done in the days before
the wedding to allow more relaxing casual time among friends.
6 ~ Never hang the wedding gown (or any of the bridal party dresses) near where makeup is being done. A mascara
wand dropped or distracted handling of a lip color --- oh! I don’t even want to think about it! By the way, coffee, juices or red wine in a small space near the gown are also no-no's.
7 ~ Don’t stress over anything that’s not perfect. Chances are no one but you will notice and it’s going to be your
beautiful wedding day no matter what. Make the best memories possible!
