Which came first? Venue or Wedding Date?

The first two big decisions you need to make for your wedding are when and where! But which decision was more important to you?? Which came first for you? Your wedding venue, or your wedding date?

We picked the venue first then picked our date since we had a couple of dates in mind.

Picked my date and we booked our venue early enough that there were hardly any dates booked yet for the year we were getting married. Booked our venue 2 and a half years early

I picked my date which is 2 years from now and most venues aren’t booked that far out yet. I found the perfect venue but I have not booked it yet. Some of the venues I looked at were booked therefore I did not book them because I am pretty set on my date !

The venue! We originally were thinking a sept/oct date but when we found the perfect venue we ended up moving the date to feb. we were still able to keep the date on a Saturday, and if we weren’t flexible on the date, we wouldn’t have been able to take advantage of off-season pricing. Worked out great!

A little of both. The date was as important as picking a location that could fit all of our family and friends. When we found the venue, it just happened to a date that we liked and the space!

We picked the date we liked best and then looked for a venue that had it open! We got very lucky because most venues in my area still had the date open! Smiley smile

Wedding date for us... We are not getting married until 2021 so finding the venue with our date was easy... Just trying to stay within a budget was the hard part.

If you don't mind me asking, what made you wait 2 years from the time you got engaged to the actual wedding date? I'm asking because it's a number of reasons why I'm willing to wait and the date is one of them. I really wanted to have my wedding on my deceased mom's birthday! But her bday doesn't fall on a weekend until 2021

Definitely venue first, they happened to have several of 8 weekends open in the 2 months we’d narrowed down to....so we chose the 17th since it’s the same day of the month his parents married! 😊

Our date came first! We decided which destination we wanted and then contacted multiple resorts in the area and chose between 2 that had our date available!

Since we were planning on a destination wedding we choose the venue first then picked the month we wanted and choose the date of what the venue had available. We landed on May 6, 2020 Smiley smile

Finding a venue wasn't hard considering it is a beach wedding. However we are planning it for after he graduates from college in the summer.

I picked a date that was closest to our anniversary. Our anniversary is August 26 and our engagement anniversary is July 26 so we picked our date to be June 26

Of course! I don't mind Smiley smile

We chose a date longer out because while our families could help pay for the wedding, our view was that we are the ones choosing to have a big, traditional wedding with the whole works (dress, cake, reception, etc.), so we shouldn't put the bill on our families. To us, it's not fair to have them pay for our day. We chose our date to give ourselves plenty of time to save up for the wedding we wanted! Just to point out, I am definitely not knocking someone having family pay for any part of a wedding, but that was just how we felt! Smiley smile

I think having your wedding on your mom's birthday is such a special thing to do! It will honor her and while she would be there in spirit anyway, it will make the day that much more special to you and your new spouse!! I say go for it! Having 2 years to plan really helped me not stress about making some smaller decision, simply because I have/had a lot of time to make them!

Best of luck in planning, Ashley!! Smiley smile

The date. We planned our Honeymoon first and worked backwards. We are both nerds and I knew I wanted a fun memorable date so we made it May the 4th be with you.

We started dating on 10/8/17, he proposed on 10/8/19! So we wanted to keep it within that date range. We wanted 10/8/21 but it’s on a Friday and we were determined to have a Saturday date. So we went with the 9th! It helps that our date is far out. Most venues haven’t booked up that late, which is awesome since October is the busiest month!
