When did you start buying 'things'?!

So our wedding is in October and I am anxious to starting buying ‘things’! How far out did you buy your bridal party/parents gifts, your guest book, reception items (toasting flutes/cake cutting set) and all your other wedding days ‘things’? I’m not sure why I am hesitating, but something is keeping...

I’m not sure why I am hesitating, but something is keeping me from hitting the checkout button!

I bought not long after I got engaged. Looked for deals that were 50% wedding item, faux floral bouquets, etc. The dress and venue were done 1 month after the engagement. The DJ came about 3 month after.

I am getting married in September. Destination wedding, but our reception will also be in October. I started buying things shortly after I got engaged last July. We are having a Halloween themed Reception, so when the holiday came up last year I got a bunch of decor. Any time something pops up that's cheaper than normal that I know we'll need, I just buy it so we have it. I have a whole room in the house dedicated to Wedding things and my fiance is getting annoyed, but at least we won't have to get it all last minute. Congrats on your wedding and good luck!

We started purchasing everything from the moment we got engaged - so about 2 years ago!

Shop for the deals! Anytime you can use a coupon or sale do it! all of it adds up quickly.

I started buying stuff the week we got engaged, even though we weren't planning to get hitched for over a year and half. HAHA

I started buying things soon after I got engaged. We got engaged May 2019. I have slowly been accumulating things so I don’t have to everything all at once.

I bought our cake topper and my shoes within a month after getting engaged for a 2 year engagement! I like to spread out the costs. Also was super excited 😂

From my own personal experience, our wedding is on the 20th of this month and we left most things for last minute as we are not wedding people overall and I would not advice it. First of all, we had unexpected surprises such as me loosing my job and the financial burden has not been easy, therefore, just in my own experience, life sometimes throws you unexpected events so is best to be prepared early just incase. Goodluck :-)

We decided on colors immediately and then everything else just started to fall into place.

Our wedding is also in October and we haven't bought anything yet. We've still got time, so I'm not going to stress it. We've looked at a bunch of things online, but we haven't bit the bullet yet.

We’re getting married at the end of September and I’ve slowly been buying things over time - it feels like you’re not really spending as much lol! For the more sentimental items we just started purchasing just because we wanted to be absolutely sure thats what we wanted ( sometimes the indecisiveness kicks in) like we just bought our toasting glasses and cake set and did the engraving. It’s easier to get little things done early so you don’t feel overwhelmed closer to the big day! I purchased our bridesmaids gifts over the summer and am also paying for their makeup and hair, just things that I won’t have to worry about closer to! Hope that helps!!

    I know how you feel!
I really enjoy reading everyone’s comments on here.. So, I am getting married in October, and I just started buying a few things here and there on Etsy. I like the idea that some of the ladies had mentioned about looking on Facebook marketplace. I will definitely start looking on there more often.

For us I got all of our stuff starting a year out! It was the best decision because now I’m 2 months away and I don’t have to stress because I kept getting things here and there throughout the year!

I’m in the same boat lol. The only thing I’ve gotten for like decor wise is a backdrop and a back drop stand for it other than that I’m like ehhh I’ll hold off until next week but then next week turns into the week after that and so on lol I’ll get something soon .... probably lol

We’re getting married in October too and I’m having the same problem! I did buy wedding day thank you gifts for my bridesmaids of necklaces and bracelets. I keep adding stuff like cake toppers and table numbers to checkout but I never actually do it. The whole “I have plenty of time” is really going to bite me in the rear!

When would you guys buy your wedding bands? I already have mine because my fiancé bought it with my engagement ring, but I’m not sure when I should buy his. I am getting married in October.

I started buying things I liked and knew would go with our wedding right away. This was after we had a date and venue picked out. It has truly helped on the back end as we are 140 days out and 80% of our shopping is done!

We’re getting married in Sept and I look at things but haven’t bought anything! I’m waiting until closer mostly because those details aren’t important and so my budget is going to what is and it will give me more time to realize what I truly need vs want. My venue includes a lot of rental items and decorations. My registry has a few items on it that I could use but if no one buys them for my shower it’s not that big of a deal for me to click checkout if I truly need or want them by then. As for my gifts to the party I’m really feeling out the perfect thing and when I’d like to give it to them. I thought of a frame with a cute photo from the shower or wedding would be nice but some people give gifts at the rehearsal not after the wedding. It’s a matter of when you’re comfortable with your vision and how things fit, don’t buy the low centerpiece to find out the venue’s family style requires tall ones. Trust your gut and your MOH that’s why you have one

Buy things as early as you want, as long as you know for sure you will use them and they work with your main vibe/theme!! It seems like many people start buying small things early on but then change their minds and end up spending more money than is necessary on replacements and they let things go to waste. If you love it, buy it!! Once you do, don't keep looking or exploring the Pinterest rabbit hole and end up questioning your choice. Good luck Smiley smile

Sounds like you got a great start! Most of our things would be more custom/personalized so we probably won't catch many deals. We just bought our cake serving/cutting set!
