What do you do to your hair, how often, & how much does it cost? UPDATE pg6

WooPigSooie, on October 23, 2017 at 12:02 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 107

I want to get a lot of input on this so I can really know if I’m being reasonable or not. FH and I are trying to save more because we want to buy a house when we get married, and he will probably need a new truck by then. We’ve been looking at our budget to see what areas have excess spending. He thinks I spend too much on my hair, but I do not want cut back on going to the salon. I get partial highlights and an eyebrow wax for $100(after tip) every 8-9 weeks, so 6 salon trips per year. I use cheap shampoo and conditioner and don’t wear any makeup so my annual beauty budget is probably less than $700. I don’t think I'm spending too much, but what do you think? How much do you on yourself?

I go every 8 weeks so about 7 trips a year, and its usually no less than $200 including tips. I get a bleach touch up, tone, and trim.

Eh, I'm probably the least common answer, but I don't spend that much on professional care unless I need a good cut and style. Those trips are usually $60-70 (ETA I only go once or twice a year). I also don't color my hair so that factors in. I do deep conditioning at home because I buy the products online and have a good hood dryer.

I get a cut probably 3-4 times per year, $50 plus $10 tip. I have pretty easy hair (straight-ish and just past my shoulders) so it doesn't need a ton of upkeep. I like it long, but get irritated once a year or so and cut 5-6 inches off.

You dont need highlights. But I only get my hair done like twice a year. Blowout for $30. The rest of year I wash and wear. I use Wen cleansing conditioner. And I use box dye.

I go maybe once a year if that. Just went Saturday actually for a cut and it was $15 plus tip. I've only colored my hair once about 2 years ago. I loved the color, but hated sitting in the chair that long.

    I get my hair cut twice a year - $75 + 20% tip.

I henna my hair once every other month at home - $5 each time. I buy henna in bulk for $45 a year.

Eyebrows are done once a month for $15 + tip.

Maybe I should get my hair cut more or something.

Your costs seem pretty reasonable, IMO. I go every 6-8 weeks for a cut and color and its usually around $160 with tip.

ETA I was keeping my hair shorter for a while so every 6-8 weeks was necessary to keep the length. But even now I am trying to grow it out for the wedding so I still go as often to just do a trim - but for color i am keeping it all one color and just doing roots (i have killer grays after 6 weeks Smiley sad ) so it ends up being a little cheaper.

I go every 2-3 months (I would go more often by my salon is an hour away and stylist is always booked!) and I spend about $200 on eyebrows, cut, deep conditioning and color - I've had balayage for about a year now and plan to keep/maintain it.

I get full highlights and a trim every 6-8 weeks. $125 including tip

I buy quality hair products bc I spend so much on the color, but only every 3-4 months do I really need to replace them. About $40

I buy pretty expensive cleanser/moisturizer, but only every 6 months. It's about $100-150

Hair usually every 6-9 weeks (wedding prep has me dragging it out longer to try not to destroy it)

: highlights & low lights $130.00 plus tip I get a cut every other but that's included as well.

Edit: to answer question properly I misread.

Cut and color every 8 weeks. $165 with tip. If I go for highlights (about 2x/year usually), then $225.

I also use professional hair care products that I buy at my salon (MilkShake) only because I can't find it anywhere. I probably spend another $200/year on hair products if not more.

I only get my haircut every 8 weeks or so. No color, no eyebrow stuff. I'm on the same schedule with my son, so with tip I'm paying $42 every 2 months for 2 people.

I used to pay $160 for hair every 12 weeks. Not anymore! I embraced my natural color and get it cut about twice a year. I rarely heat style so split ends are not that bad. I use expensive aveda products but I switch it up every other wash with cheaper stuff too. I wash my hair about every other day (gym often and dry shampoo is liiiffe).

My biggest splurge now is manicure.. Because ring!

I would love to get my hair coloured or highlighted again, but that's 2-3 hours in the salon that I don't have with a small child at home. Take the time for yourself when you can. The hour it takes to get my hair cut is often the only "me time" I get for that week.

I get my hair cut twice a year, $30-$40 total after tip each time.

I cannot fathom spending $700 a year on my hair. I would much rather save the $620 to take a trip somewhere than to have great looking hair. I've only gotten my nails done professionally like twice in my life (prom, and probably one other time). I pluck and wax my own brows, but if they get really bad, I get them threaded for $10 (maybe 3 times a year max).

I try to keep my personal care costs low by insourcing everything I do. There are great tutorials on how to cut and maintain your own hair on youtube. If you stop coloring your hair and only get it cut twice a year, and maintain it yourself the rest of the time, you will save literally hundreds of dollars. But that only works if saving is a priority to you and you won't feel resentful about it.

    Best of luck!

@Rachel-I have a small child at home, if I can spend a couple of hours outside of the house with "adults", I'm outsourcing that and paying for it.

Sounds reasonable. Ask him how much it costs to get his hair cut every 2 weeks, I doubt he pays substantially less than you over the year unless he gets a $10 special at supercuts.

Also remind him that 1) if he likes the way your hair is it takes $ and 2) if you aren't super skilled you'll at best have crap color from a box or burn your hair off with bleach. Unless your budget is extra tight, I think it's unreasonable to scale back. $1400 savings on a house 4 yrs from now won't make that much of a difference unless you're looking at a super cheap area.

So I'm not a hair person but I get my nails done every 2 weeks, $35/trip plus tip. It's $10 more if I get my brows waxed. And when I have lash extensions it's 125 up front then 55 every 2 weeks or 65 every 3 weeks. So I average roughly $1000 more than you a year on typical maintenance.

Also I get a trim every 8 weeks to prevent split ends and promote healthy growth. Wash trim and style is $45. So 6 times a year is 325

    ETA hair

When I was platinum blonde (natural brunette), I was going probably once a month and spending around 100ish dollars with another 75 for nails and eyebrows. Now at my natural color my monthly beauty costs have gone done significantly.
