What are your views on having a wedding cake vs. Cupcakes?

Lindsey, on July 16, 2017 at 11:14 PM Posted in Planning 0 90

My FH and I were debating about whether or not to get a traditional three tiered wedding cake vs having one tier for us to cut and having cupcakes for our guests, because I've heard the wedding cake usually gets wasted because there's a lot left over. Thoughts?

    "tier"

Many couples use cupcakes with a small cake for cutting on the top tier.

A lot of people on here will say cupcakes are for birthday parties, but we are serving them. I am not getting a separate cake but we are doing mini cupcakes and then one large one for us to cut into. I personally really like cupcakes.

My FH and I are on the fence too. I'd rather have cupcakes, so guests can take them home if needed. Also, so they can take leftovers. Plus we were think of having a dessert table and placing the cupcakes there. Curious as to others opinions who've already had either.

We are going to do a small cake at the top with tiers of cupcakes. We like that we can have different flavors of cupcakes and that it's more fun.

I prefer cake. Cupcakes are significantly less upscale and harder for guests to deal with, since they are eaten with one's hands rather than with a fork like a slice of cake.

We did a 3-tier cake and 200 mini cupcakes. Both were a huge hit. We had 140 guests and only had half the top tier of cake left.

I vote cake, which can be packaged in a favor box as well. I'm over the cupcake trend, but understand how cost effective it is.

I love the look of a wedding cake. Cost? We are getting our cake for $3.10 pp but cupcakes are $3.15

I will be having a cake. I really wanted cupcakes but I live in PA so we will have a cookie table so in thought cupcakes and cookies was a bit overkill. I've seen some cute pictures of a mini cake for the couple and cupcakes for the guests.

I really just don't like cupcakes as much (personal preference). I find the cake to icing ratio is just not as even as with cake, and often the cake itself in the cupcake form ends up dry (though obviously this depends on the baker). There are pros and cons to each but my personal preference is a tier cake

I'm having cupcakes for the kids and a 3 tier cake for the adults. I figured I have a lot of younger kiddos who don't eat much and cupcakes seem to be the perfect size for them.

I'm team cake because, well, I love cake! But I think cupcakes are a fine substitution. People do say you can get more variety with cupcakes since you can do multiple flavors. With a cake, you can usually only do one flavor per tier. But still...CAKE! Hahaha!

We are having cake and cupcakes. We are also having small cake slice boxes in case of left over cake that anyone would like to take home with them.

We are doing a top tier for us to cut and then cupcakes for all of our guests. We are still providing small plates and forks for people who choose to use them. Our main reason for doing so is it is easier to serve. Consider your venue and who will serve your cake. I think both can be beautiful depending on what look you are going for.

Can't go wrong with cupcakes. We're doing a cake because it's all inclusive but I don't see anything wrong with cupcakes!

I ordered 3 flavors of cupcakes for guests and my mom is making a cutting tier for us to cut. I love cake & cupcakes, but my family will easily go for cupcakes.

As long as it's good quality with yummy flavors I don't have a preference.
