What are your views on having a wedding cake vs. Cupcakes?

My FH and I were debating about whether or not to get a traditional three tiered wedding cake vs having one tier for us to cut and having cupcakes for our guests, because I've heard the wedding cake usually gets wasted because there's a lot left over. Thoughts?

Team cupcake here as well. I love the look of wedding cakes, but I love the ease and price of cupcakes. Plus the fact that you can do so many other flavor options.

Cupcakes can look elegant and can also be eaten with a fork on a plate.. Bad arguments IMHO. We are doing cake and cupcakes though.

@Danielle - I don't know if any restaurant that offers cupcakes for dessert. That seems like a bizarre argument to determine what level of "class" cupcakes are.

As a bride, I prefer cake because it's cheaper and looks prettier.

As a guest, I prefer cupcakes because they're easier to eat and you can choose from more flavors.

We're doing the one tier cake and having the rest cupcakes. You can totally make them look elegant! This is an inspo pic I really like.

If we were charged for a cutting fee it would definitely be cupcakes. #teamcake

I'm doing a two tier cake (top tier to be saved) supplemented by two other flavors of cupcakes;that way we will have 3 different flavors options.

I'm doing cake. I'm also doing apple pie as late night snack since May 13 is national apple pie day lol. My wedding is on the 12th but that's nutty fudge day (Nut allergies).

Team cupcake. Our colors are. Red, blue and gold... I do want to stick with just vanilla frosting and anyone can eat a cupcake with a fork. Looking for a more vintage look with details on them. I might have a one layered cake with a cupcake bar table with labels for each flavor

I'm planning to do both a small cake and cupcakes. I love cupcakes just in my day-to-day life, so I will be happy to have cupcakes!

I am doing cupcakes. Wanted something different even though that is the "trend" now. We are having a small cake on top of the display to cut and having 4 different flavored cupcakes.

Depends on your personality. My sister's was fun, outdoorsy , bring the fall indoors. They made the cupcake display.

I have thought about this over and over and over again! I thought cupcakes are easy (especially if you are having kids there, like me) but my deal came with people who cut and serve the cake so I decided to go with cake.

What also talked me out of doing cupcakes is your guests will have to use their hands and who knows what mess that can lead to with them having to touch this and that (once again esp if you're having kids attend).

But either are totally acceptable for a wedding! Your day, your choice!

We are doing a 8 inch personal cake with decorations and a topper for us and then a sheet cake. I'm spending a lot on cake because to be honest who really eats all that cake? Ive been to so many weddings where no one even cares for it because it's served late. Personally I don't like cupcakes because it's more of a mess.

Cake all the way. We are having a small 2 tier cake and a small grooms cake. I don't think we will have waste because our crowd loves cake Smiley smile

Cake! We are going with 5 tiers, all different flavors. Weddings are elegant and classy, I've never find cupcakes to be either.

We're doing cupcakes. I was able to buy better cupcake than I could cake due to the cake cutting fee at my venue.

We're doing a 3 tier cake and cupcakes.. best of both worlds. Our baker is making the cupcakes the day before so they aren't dry. Also I feel like you can have a lot more flavors if you do cupcakes, if you are wanting to go that route.
