What are your plans after the wedding?

Mrswilson2012, on March 19, 2012 at 4:43 PM Posted in Planning 0 33

While we are currently focused on planning one of the most important days of our lives, what do you have planned after the wedding is over? Do you & your FI currently have a 5 year or even 10 year plan as to what's next?

My FI & I are currently saving for our wedding & a down payment on a home. Next year our main focus will be the down payment on our home (since we'll be done saving for the wedding). We also plan to do quite a bit of traveling over the next couple years. Eventually we will also have babies (1 or 2), but we want to wait 5-7 years for that.

How about you?

Babies right away. Ideally, we would like to buy a house first, I think it would be much easier to do it beforehand, but whatever happens, happens :-)

FH just turned 30 and says "my clock is ticking, dammit!"

I think one of the immediate plans is to get pregnant. I'm an only child and I currently don't have any children, plus, my mom needs some grandkids, she has too much free time.

Considering my age (mid-30's) I would rather do this sooner than later.

My FH and I are planning to live in the same city, LOL!!! I am moving to his city and renting out my house! Then we have several trips planned this year. We are in the process of trying to get rid of as much debt as possible which is not much just student loans and our car notes, LOL!!! Still we want to be able to give as much as possible and then be able to travel.

We are planning to start saving to renew our vows next year in Venice.

After that, start saving for a bigger house. I've been in my house, which I own, for over 10 years, so we've sort of outgrown it. He already has a daughter (almost 4) who we have a majority of the time. After the wedding we are moving for full custody because her mother is useless.

We are very much looking forward to life getting back to normal. Meaning no wedding crap all over the house and weekends spent together, instead of me in my lair working on my dress. Our biggest goal is to work on our house so we can sell it and move. It's actually my house, that I used to live in with my former husband. I was awarded it in the divorce and have owned it for almost 20 years. We want a place of our own. That's very important to us.

    Hey Mrs. Wilson2012

after the wedding, I will become Mrs. Willson with 2 Ls.

As far as plans after. I plan to work harder at finding a better job than my current one, saving $ and eventually buying a house. Also baby making not quite sure when that should take place...

Mostly I just want to enjoy being his wife!

I will start going for my Master's Degree after we get married and should be done with that 2 years later. My Fiance will be going for his BA degree and then his Master's. Hopefully within that time we can save enough money to get a house. And babies will happen when they happen. I just want a house first =)

Grad school is next for me..and finding another job. FH is going to start looking for another job too. Then we want to travel..at least 2 trips a year. We'll buy a house after grad school, but we're not having babies for at least 5 years.

ETA: Oh, and I'm going to save for a new car this year!

Both of us are looking to start new jobs after we get married. I have to find a new teaching position before we get married, so it should make things interesting. We would also like to take a couple of trips in the next year. We want to spend New Year's in NYC and take a Disney vacation. We will see what happens when it come to babies. We have decided we want them, just not when.

A small thing we are planning for - we are both getting an iPhone after the wedding. We both have ancient phones and we want to upgrade!

I personally am going to start saving for a new car when this is all over. My car is 12 years old, and while she still gets me around just fine, she's definitely in her senior years.

Within the next 5 years we want to sell the house we're in and move to the Reno/Carson City area, buy a house with some acreage and open a BBQ joint. FH is an awesome cook and we get such raves when we do BBQ's.

Hmmm nothing is changing here, but we're already married, lol I'll still homeschool and work on my photography company that I share with my sister. Hubby will hopefully be working already by then and will continue to do so. That's about it, it will go back to life as always...

Yeah biggest thing is that we will finally permanently live in the same country as each other. I'm Canadian, he's American. I lived there for about 8 months while working on my greencard, and then back up in Canada for 6 months to get the wedding ready. So I'm definitely looking forward to starting our life together and getting settled down there.

We don't want kids for 4-5 years. I say as long as I have two before I'm 30, I'm happy Smiley smile. We want to save for a house but I also really want to travel before we have kids, so the house could go on the back burner a little bit, in my opinion Smiley smile

FH and I are planning on actually sitting down in the next couple months....when he finally comes to join me up here for a bit...to come up with a good short term and long term plan.

We are planning like a lot of people on here. We both have very good jobs and are completely done with school (I have my doctorates and FH has his BS in Mechanical Engineering). We have been pre-approved for a house and have money saved for a decent down payment so hopefully that will be shortly after we get back from the honeymoon. We are also looking at getting a new vehicle. We are thinking either an Acadia or Escalade!
