Hello all!

I’m not sure if this is the proper group for this discussion. However, I wanted to know if you ladies and/or gents wear your engagement rings all the time.

Recently, I was made to feel bad, perhaps unintentionally but perhaps not, about not wearing my engagement ring 24/7. My FHs family and I were talking about planning and my rings and such. When a member of his family said that an engagement ring should be worn at ALL times and never taken off, with quite the attitude. As if she judging me for taking it off. Mind you, I take it off right when I get home, and put it right back on when I go out anywhere. I don’t want to get it dirty, damaged, or lose its shine while I am doing my everyday tasks at home.

So tell me, what do you do? Do you wear it at all times, without taking it off? Or do you take it off for certain tasks?

I take my ring off when I’m sleeping, doing dishes, showering, and washing my hands. It’s your choice when you do and do not wear your engagement ring in all honesty. I read an article early in my engagement that listed many occasions where you shouldn’t wear it. I don’t let anyone shame me, and when people ask I explain why I don’t wear it at those specific times. It’s your choice though and only you can make it.

Honestly, I almost never wear mine lol I clean houses for a living so I take it off and put it on my keychain while i'm working and some days I get so wrapped up that I don't even think to put it back on when I get done. I'm not a huge fan of wearing jewelry 24/7 anyways so I really only wear it if we go out somewhere or if we're going to be around his family because I don't want to deal with questions. lol FH doesn't seem to mind too much either!

I only take it off when I shower/wash my face or when I go swimming. But me and my FH both take our rings off on these occasions. We playfully pick at one another if we leave them off too long, but nothing serious.

I wear my rings everywhere. However, when at home, i take it off before i take a shower and would leave it off until the morning when i am ready to leave the house. I am scared to lose it so when at home, i keep it in a secure spot and where i can always find it.

I take my ring off anytime my hands might get wet, when I am sleeping, and even when I am just at home doing nothing. I don't think it is that big of a deal... plus literally wearing it 24/7 it is gonna need a lot more frequent cleanings to keep it shining

The ONLY time I take mine off is when I am putting on lotion, or dealing with raw meat. And then it goes onto a specialized ring holder- as I’m a size 4.5!

After waiting 7 years, almost 8, I cannot imagine not having it on- looking at it makes me Soooo happy! Plus, I don’t want to loose it- that can happen- or forget to put it on should I have to run out.

That said: It is up to the individual(s), meaning YOU and your FH. If both of you are okay with the decision to take it off when you get home, and put it in a safe spot, then I say by all means do what feels right with you.

There are wonderful cleaning products that are non-abrasive. BlueNiles cleaning cloth is amazing and chemical free.

I take mine off a night, when I'm cleaning, or whenever. It's just a ring. Engagement rings are beautiful, special things, but your engagement isn't "cursed" because you take them off for a hot minute.

Sounds like that relative is just the kind of person who likes to be holier-than-thou. Best way to deal with people like that is don't be apologetic. Just laugh.

There will always be those few people who always have an opinion. However, you do what you feel is right and what is comfortable for you and your fiancé.

For me, I only took my ring off when washing dishes or taking a shower. Other than that, I just loved having it on all the time 🥰

I take my ring off only when cooking taking a shower or sometimes going to bed. Sometimes my fingers swell

I love my ring, and so proud of it that I wear it almost all the time. However I do not shower, clean, garden, exercise, cook or go to the beach with it. It’s too precious to me!! Sometimes I’ll wear one of those rubber wedding bands just because it feels awkward not wearing a ring.

I normally wear mine all the time. However I do take mine off to shower and clean due to chemicals. At work I normally wear a silicone one due to working in the hospital!

I take it off as soon as I'm home and put it back on when I go out. I don't think I could ever wear it in the shower or to sleep

I definitely take mine off when I cook, clean, and sometimes when I workout. You have your reasons to take it off. My FH used to make me feel a way when I took it off. But then realized he forgets to wear his promise ring. He stopped after a firm talk.

Right after I got engaged, I read an article that said you shouldn't sleep with your engagement ring on because it may get caught in your hair, sheets, or pajamas. I take mine off to sleep; I also don't wear it in the shower or when I wash my hands. If I'm home all day, I don't usually put it on.

The person who was being so critical should mind their own business unless they want to replace your ring if something happens to it.

I wear mine from Thursday night until Sunday night. I can’t wear my ring at work so I take it off and leave it in a safe place at home.

I am a lot like you. I keep it safe in its box when I am cleaning anything. I can really only wear it when I go out or at home. It's really your personal preference. I don't want to take the chance of it being damaged (maybe it's a new fiance thing).
