Wearing a ring 24/7?

Hello all!

I’m not sure if this is the proper group for this discussion. However, I wanted to know if you ladies and/or gents wear your engagement rings all the time.

Recently, I was made to feel bad, perhaps unintentionally but perhaps not, about not wearing my engagement ring 24/7. My FHs family and I were talking about planning and my rings and such. When a member of his family said that an engagement ring should be worn at ALL times and never taken off, with quite the attitude. As if she judging me for taking it off. Mind you, I take it off right when I get home, and put it right back on when I go out anywhere. I don’t want to get it dirty, damaged, or lose its shine while I am doing my everyday tasks at home.

So tell me, what do you do? Do you wear it at all times, without taking it off? Or do you take it off for certain tasks?

I wear mine all the time, but I also have a really comprehensive lifetime warranty on it. If it weren't for that, I'd probably be more aware of the tasks I was doing and have it off more. If you feel like you want it on more often (and you should only worry about how YOU feel, not FH family) I knew a girl who had a necklace with a clasp hanging on it and when she took her ring off to clean or whatever she would clip the ring to her necklace.

I wear it all the time, ONLY because I am very forgetful. My family told me I have to keep it on me at all times because I will forget it and they’re right! I forget my ring in the bathroom after a shower or even on the kitchen counter after doing dishes. I just wear it all the time, plus I love having it on me from the moment I wake up and until I fall asleep. My FH does the same
thing with his engagement ring so!

I take it off a lot. I take it off when I get home, I don't sleep with it, I don't workout with it, I don't clean with it, and I usually don't wear it when I run out for a quick errand. I actually don't think it's a good idea to wear it all the time. Actually, one of my diamonds fell out early on because I was too harsh on it. Gems are fragile. That's why I've decided to get a plain gold band for the wedding ring so I don't need to worry as much.

So when I first got engaged, I’ll admit I ‘babied’ my ring. I took it off to sleep, shower, do the dishes, clean, didn’t wear it at work(I work in an ER), etc. But now, I really only take it off to shower. I sleep in it and wear it to work all the time. My hand kinda feels naked without it! I just take it to my jeweler to get it cleaned more often 😊

I take mine off all the time and regularly don't wear it for certain activities. Jewelers will tell you you shouldn't wear your rings to do household chores, to the gym, when applying makeup, while cooking or prepping food, to bed, swimming, etc. Caring for rings properly helps them stay in better condition for longer.

Prior to getting engaged I never wore rings and rarely wore jewelry outside of special occasions, so it took me a while to adjust to having a ring on at all. My stone is pretty small (1/2 carat, thank goodness my FH knows me well and knew that dainty and delicate was my style) but my ring still catches on things if I'm not careful.

I work as an athletic director, so shortly after getting engaged I bought myself a silicone ring to wear at times when I don't want to wear my e-ring. On days where I'm mostly in meetings or my office, I wear my e-ring to work and then will take it off and not wear a ring at all if I need to do an active program (I keep my ring box in my bag so I have a safe place to put it). On days where I am doing a lot of activity, I just wear my silicone ring. I do try to put it on before I leave the house for the day and then leave it on until after I get home and need to remove it to shower or cook dinner, and I wear it whenever we are going out for dinner or doing something special. Sometimes I do forget to put in on when rushing out the door for an errand, but I intentionally leave it home when going clothes shopping or walking the dog, because those are times when I'm more apt to lose it or have it catch on something. When looking at wedding bands, I did decide to go with a really simple band I can wear with or without my ring so that I can more often have a ring on even at times where I don't want to wear my e-ring.

I take mine off at night and put it in a box by my bed. I don’t want it to snag on something while I’m sleeping, and one time I was wearing it and turned over in bed and accidentally scratched my FH with my ring 😬 I also take it off when showering, working out, or doing housework. I do wear it at most other times of the day though!

I usually don't wear my ring when I am working since I am in the medical field and we take our gloves on and off! (Don't wanna accidentally toss my ring away in the trash along with bacteria and germs!) Some people forego wearing it all the time, some don't. It shouldn't matter so much since it's your ring and you can do whatever you want with it!

I barely wear mine. I bought a silicone ring a couple months ago and wear that far more than my diamond ring. I love my engagement ring but it’s for date nights and special occasions for me. I’m excited for my wedding band so I can wear that one more/everyday!

I do the same as you.. i take it off when i get home, take a shower, clean, go to sleep ect.. I wouldn't feel bad.. My mom wears hers 24/7 and she goes every few months to have new diamonds put in because they fall out, she even developed a rash on her finger because the ring is loosing color.. Mind you this is a $5000 ring from Zales.. Not something from Walmart, she shouldn't be having all those issues.

I wear mine all day even if I wash dishes or shower. Only time I take it off is to sleep because my fingers get swollen & it would wake me up at night

I pretty much only take it off sometimes when I'm cleaning/doing dishes or working with fabric that can catch on it (I like to sew). I'm paranoid about losing it and I know I would forget to put it on if I was taking it on and off too much and now I've worn it so much that it feels weird to take it off. But that's just me! Judging someone or someone's relationship based off of something as trivial as how and when they choose to wear a piece of jewelry says a lot more about the person judging than it does about the person wearing the ring. Women are judged enough, who cares if you take your engagement ring off sometimes. 😒

I take mine off when I shower. It depends on the person. My sister-in-law never takes her off and another friend of mine who got married 7ish years ago doesn't even wear her's anymore. She just wears her wedding band. I don't see an issue with it.

I love to wear it all the time!
Now at bedtime I have to turn the Diamond around to face the inside of me to sleep comfortably. Then I’m a hairstylist part time so I’ll take it off sometimes when doing color just to be safe bc I know bleach will eat up my ring.

First of all, I don't understand the shaming of not wearing an engagement ring at all times. Wow, people are silly in their beliefs. I know people who wear it all the time. I wear mine most of the time except for certain cleaning jobs, lifting weights or traveling outside of the country. I have a friend who won't wear hers to work as she works non profit with underpriviledged children. My point is, it's the love and commitment you have to one another and although it is a symbol of that it by no means changes that love whether you are wearing it or not.

    You do you boo!
