Hello all!

I’m not sure if this is the proper group for this discussion. However, I wanted to know if you ladies and/or gents wear your engagement rings all the time.

Recently, I was made to feel bad, perhaps unintentionally but perhaps not, about not wearing my engagement ring 24/7. My FHs family and I were talking about planning and my rings and such. When a member of his family said that an engagement ring should be worn at ALL times and never taken off, with quite the attitude. As if she judging me for taking it off. Mind you, I take it off right when I get home, and put it right back on when I go out anywhere. I don’t want to get it dirty, damaged, or lose its shine while I am doing my everyday tasks at home.

So tell me, what do you do? Do you wear it at all times, without taking it off? Or do you take it off for certain tasks?

Mines snag on every thing even when I sleep i'm scared that a diamond will fall out or loosen. I don't want to take it off and my FH kind of gets upset if I do. I lost it once, it was in the covers while I was sleeping. i freaked out soooo bad. He found it under the bed and was not happy, I think along as u put it in a safe place u should be fine. its whatever is comfortable for u if it was up to me we would of just got tattoos. lol

I take mine off when showering and cleaning. I want it to stay as clean as possible. ☺️

It's your ring, you know what feels right. I love to wear mine but I also know there are times it just isnt practical because it could get damaged or lost.
Every life is also different, for us we both do "character" work, like superheroes and princesses, and take our rings off for those events.

I wear mine all the time unless I go a work in dirt. Which I’ve done on accident and it’s some work to clean this sucker. I just love having it there and feel naked without it

I wear my ring a majority of the time of the day but I don’t wear it to work. I have a promise ring that I wear to work. I put on and take off gloves all day because I work in a hospital. So I just use a old ring so my finger don’t feel empty.

At first i was taking it off because I didnt want it to get any scratches or anything on it. Well, life happens and small (even the tiniest) scratches happen. I get my ring serviced at Jared's because he has the insurance on it, so when I take it back in December it will be inspected, cleaned, and buffed. I do take it off when now at night, if I remember, but def when I am cleaning (which is daily) or cooking or doing my hair. Once it goes in the box it stays there until next day.....Like this morning I almost forgot to put it on for rushing out the house. lol.

I take mine off as soon as I am home from work! I do so much at home/gym/etc that I dont wanna risk loosing a diamond or scratching anything. I don't really wear it all the time at home because I feel it's safer on its holder. Especially since I wash my hands alot from cooking, I don't wanna lose it amidst what I'm doing

I take it off for working out, yard work (anything using a grip basically), when I’m just relaxing at home, and when I shower.

I’m a massage therapist and I can’t have long nails or any jewelry on my wrists or hands. I do take my ring off for work and I just put it on my necklace so it’s still on me.

I felt the same way before. I love my ring and I understand how expensive it is. I was scared of it falling off or damaging any of the diamonds. I do wear my engagement ring all the time, but Ofcourse with some exceptions. I do take it off when I shower, wash face , wash dishes , take the dog a bath things like that at home. Also, if we’re going to a lake or anything dealing with water like swimming I won’t wear it.
Theres been a few events that I won’t where it due to the atmosphere we’re in, and I’ll keep it in the safe. Also if I’m cooking or baking, I definitely won’t wear mine at all.

I believe it’s all preference and letting your fiancé know how you feel about it. There’s times where I feel like it’s too much to wear 24/7 (from sunrise to sunset) and he understands completely.

Don't let anyone tell you how things should be done. It’s between you and your future spouse Smiley smile

I take mine off when I shower, do my hair, do dishes, bake/cook anything that I have to use my hands for (bread, pizza, pie crust, etc), go to the gym, or go to the beach/sailing/any kind of water basically.

Honestly, it sounds like that family member thinks you’re property that needs to be tagged as such. I’d avoid them.

I wear mine most of the time, but not while doing anything that could damage it! Anything like showering, cleaning, putting on lotions, etc. Honestly it’s your ring, your hand, and none of their business when and where you wear your ring!

I’ve only had mine since Sunday! But I take it off when I am cleaning house, showering, and before bed I “tuck it in” in the box it came in. I believe it keeps the ring looking nice and I don’t really like sleeping with anything on my hands. I love my ring, but sometimes I’d rather be safe then sorry if it came off in my sleep or fell down the drain.

My daughter works with autistic children and can not wear her ring during work. But she wears it any other time she can.

Don't let anyone shame you for not wearing your engagement ring. I rarely wear mine. And I get judged for it constantly. It's not that I don't love it, nor is it that I don't love my fiancee. I simply don't want to lose it and find it uncomfortable to wear at times. Granted, I am allergic to it (and all metal), so that would explain the uncomfortableness. However, I see my engagement ring as a promise of dedication and commitment. I value it highly and always know where it is, but I do not have to wear it anytime I don't want to. It's a gift of love, not a symbol of ownership. And that's my opinion on the matter Smiley xd Lol.

When you wear your ring is of no one's concern but your own. You have perfectly good reasons for not wearing it at home, and even if you didn't have any reasons you still don't have to justify yourself. I wear mine all the time, but I wouldn't judge someone for not.

Up until recently, I only took mine off to shower, use certain chemicals or cook (if I was using my hands, say to roll meatballs or something). I read an article that you shouldn't wear it when you sleep, so I have been trying to remember to take it off when I go to bed, but I ended up forgetting it all day. I used to teach swimming lessons, but I didn't have my ring then. If I had, I would have taken it off while I taught.

I don't currently have an engagement ring, however. I have a promise ring, as I am in a long-distance (I'm in Australia and he's in the US) relationship and my FH wanted to meet my family and get their blessing before we made anything official. While my promise ring is quite precious, it's a little more durable and the diamonds are smaller and flatter than most engagement rings seem to be. I might feel differently when I have my engagement ring.

My grandmother never takes her jewelry (rings included) off, whether it be for cleaning, cooking, sleeping or showering (she's not a swimmer, so not sure what she'd do in that instance). Mum is divorced, but only wears her jewelry when she leaves the house.

How does your FH feel about you not wearing your ring at home? I'd say only his opinion matters, but even then, you have to wear it, so it should be your choice.

TL;DR I take my ring off for certain things. My grandmother never takes hers off, and my mother only wears jewelry outside of the house. It's a personal preference.

I wear mine pretty much 24/7. I’m more afraid of putting it down and losing it than I am of getting it dirty or losing it while it’s on my finger. It’s pretty snug on there but everyone is different.
