Hello all!

I’m not sure if this is the proper group for this discussion. However, I wanted to know if you ladies and/or gents wear your engagement rings all the time.

Recently, I was made to feel bad, perhaps unintentionally but perhaps not, about not wearing my engagement ring 24/7. My FHs family and I were talking about planning and my rings and such. When a member of his family said that an engagement ring should be worn at ALL times and never taken off, with quite the attitude. As if she judging me for taking it off. Mind you, I take it off right when I get home, and put it right back on when I go out anywhere. I don’t want to get it dirty, damaged, or lose its shine while I am doing my everyday tasks at home.

So tell me, what do you do? Do you wear it at all times, without taking it off? Or do you take it off for certain tasks?

I take mine off if I’m cleaning, cooking with my hands, showering or helping my FH in the garage with his cars. Other than that I keep mine on all the time!

I take mine off when I shower, wash dishes and go to the gym. I have a silicone ring I put on in it's place, otherwise I forget to put it back on! Also this way my hand only feels normal if there's a ring on it, just in case it did get lost I'd notice right away.

I take my ring off for cleaning, showering, dishes, working out etc. I even take it off for work! I'm an RN so my ring would get beat up/filthy if I wore it to work. if you feel bad about not wearing your ring all the time, you can get silicone rings which is what I wear to work and the gym!

I wear my ring all the time! I only take it off while washing the dishes. If there is a situation where I feel like it might be loose, I just wrap a bandaid around the bottom rim. I choose to wear it all the time because i love it soooo much! It’s your ring though, do whatever you want!

I take it off to sleep, shower, wash my hands, and do the dishes. I have ring holders in the bathroom/by the sink.

    Hi!

I wear mine all the time except for the shower and sometimes the gym. When my hands get wet in the shower or sweaty at the gym, it swings around (top heavy - round diamond with cushion halo) and drives me INSANE. I recently bought a silicon ring for the gym. My friend wears a silicon ring if she wears sunblock at the pool or beach so it doesn't get all gunky (I still wear my diamond ring at the beach/pool).

I think it should be worn as much as possible and always at home (some people take it off to wash dishes but everytime you take it off, you run the risk of it getting lost).

Diamonds are pretty durable (even thought it makes me cringe if I ever accidentally smack the wall or something when I'm walking around a tight corner quickly) so you really shouldnt worry about it getting damaged during everyday tasks. If you're worried about dirt, just clean it every now and then.. your ring should have come with a cleaner solution -- if not purchase from a local jeweler. If you're still worried about damaging or losing it, make sure you purchase insurance. In my opinion, the safest place is on my hand.

Ultimately, your fiance probably spent a lot of money on it and it was a sacrifice for him/her. So you not wearing it, makes it seem like you don't like it, appreciate it or value it or your embarrassed by it -- I'm sure you dont want or intend to make him/her feel that way but that's what it says when you don't wear it MOST of the time.

The only time I think it is acceptable for people not to wear their ring with no silicone ring in it's place in public is if their/your safety could be compromised by people knowing you/they are married and could have a family. I know people and nurses that work in the jails and they don't want inmates to know their personal lives because their loved ones could at some point become a target.. for those reasons, I could understand.

I’m a space head and lose things CONSTANTLY so I truly never take my ring off. Only to clean it and for instance, snorkeling in Turks and Caicos, or cleaning out the barn. I still don’t trust myself taking it off so I always give it to my FH if I take it off so he can be responsible for it 😂

I take mine off when I go to work because I work with kids with special needs and I don't want to hurt the kids by scratching them or damage it when I'm blocking a behavior or something. Also I don't always wear it around the house because I don't want to lose it. It was my grandmother's set.

The only time it is taken off is in the shower or if doing dishes. If I was swimming it would come off too. Other than that yes it is always worn.

I take mine off at home too! Same thing, I dont want it to get dirty or something! And I take it off when I sleep because your hands could swell in the night and cut off circulation! Dont sweat it, it's your opinion that matters.

I have a “at home ring” and a “public ring”. I wear my engagement ring out and at work and stuff but at home I have a silicone ring. That as soon as I get home I switch to. Love it!

Sounds like a red flag- it tells me they do not trust you. I take off whenever I can at home- and no one judges me. This is far ridiculous. What ever happened to trust and love?

I worked in the jewelry business for years and you should be taking it off once you go home and do chores.

I do massage therapy so I do take it off when I give massages so I don't scratch anyone! Other than that I usually wear it all the time
