Hello all!

I’m not sure if this is the proper group for this discussion. However, I wanted to know if you ladies and/or gents wear your engagement rings all the time.

Recently, I was made to feel bad, perhaps unintentionally but perhaps not, about not wearing my engagement ring 24/7. My FHs family and I were talking about planning and my rings and such. When a member of his family said that an engagement ring should be worn at ALL times and never taken off, with quite the attitude. As if she judging me for taking it off. Mind you, I take it off right when I get home, and put it right back on when I go out anywhere. I don’t want to get it dirty, damaged, or lose its shine while I am doing my everyday tasks at home.

So tell me, what do you do? Do you wear it at all times, without taking it off? Or do you take it off for certain tasks?

I think it’s up to the wearer what they decide. I work with dogs professionally, so I choose not to wear my ring at work, although after I clock out I put it back on. Not because of any societal norm or pressure from others, but because I’m proud to wear it. In my opinion it’s about what you want, and anyone else’s view on it shouldn’t matter.

I can't wear mine for the wear house work I do, so I wear a rubber ring during the week, and my real ring on the weekends. I don't sleep in my ring or do dishes with it on. My ring annoys me when I sleep because it turns all the way around my finger. And like you, I don't want to get my ring excessively dirty by cooking with it on.

I take it off when I get home, while I’m sitting at my desk at work and when I’m sitting at my desk at work. It’s kinda too big.

I take mine off when i shower, cleaning, and sometimes working out. It's your personal decision and there's no right or wrong way. I fear losing my ring so in situations where there's higher risk of losing, i take it off and put it in a safe place. You do you girl!

Sadly I’m not allowed to wear it on my finger at work. And at the moment my ring is a little too big so I don’t wear it to sleep either

I haven't worn my engagement ring since 2013, after my daughter was born it didn't fit me anymore and I haven't had time to get it resized.

I take mine off ALL THE TIME. I don't cook, clean, workout, or sleep in it. We go out on our boat quite often - I never wear it then. There are complete weekends at home when I don't touch it because we are busy doing yardwork or cleaning. Get a Qalo or Enso ring! When we are on the boat I wear a rubber ring.

Most times, I take it off at night and put it back on before I leave for work. There are times I do sleep with it on and just take it off in the morning to get ready. It stays on my finger unless I’m sleep, cooking, cleaning or getting dressed.

I do not wear my ring when I am home. I’ve heard wearing it 24/7 and doing tasks can cause wear and tear to the diamond so in order to preserve the condition I choose not to wear it when I’m home for that reason

I don't sleep or shower with it on either. I store it in the ring box at night. I have a little dish my sister gave me as an engagement gift that I keep in the kitchen and put my ring in when I'm cooking or cleaning with chemicals.

I found silicon rings on Amazon. Package of 10 for about $8 I think.

Im so sorry that someone made you feel that way. Personally I do the same thing as you do for the same reason. I take it off and put it in its special spot in my jewelry box while I'm home doing chores. My FH doesn't seem to mind and I definitely wear it anytime I leave the house.

My late grandfather was a jeweler and he explained to me that what gets the most wear and tear on a ring is the metal as well as the prongs. One of the reasons the metal wears down is due to the hardness of the diamond vs the strength of the metal. Also although the compound of the diamond might be able to withstand some harsh chemicals and abrasvies due to the gems hardness, the metal surrounding it might not be as tough which can cause the prongs to loosen and diamonds to fall out! So good for you for taking precautions with your 💍

I wear it when I'm going out most of the time, but not when I'll be doing an activity that could potentially damage it (to the gym, on a hike, etc). I also take it off when I'm sleeping, showering, doing the dishes, other household chores, etc.

My FH and my family agrees this is best too, and I do have another ring I wear if I want to while I'm doing those activities.

No shame in not wearing it - but it's totally based on your preference!

I take mines off only to shower, wash dishes, or while I am cooking (depending what I am making). Basically when I am doing something that it can get excessively dirty or get soap scum on it. I also take it off when I am cleaning it, which I do about 2 or 3 times a week. I, too, want to keep it nice and shiny. 😋
