Hello all!

I’m not sure if this is the proper group for this discussion. However, I wanted to know if you ladies and/or gents wear your engagement rings all the time.

Recently, I was made to feel bad, perhaps unintentionally but perhaps not, about not wearing my engagement ring 24/7. My FHs family and I were talking about planning and my rings and such. When a member of his family said that an engagement ring should be worn at ALL times and never taken off, with quite the attitude. As if she judging me for taking it off. Mind you, I take it off right when I get home, and put it right back on when I go out anywhere. I don’t want to get it dirty, damaged, or lose its shine while I am doing my everyday tasks at home.

So tell me, what do you do? Do you wear it at all times, without taking it off? Or do you take it off for certain tasks?

No i absolutely take my ring off. When I’m cooking, washing dishes, taking a shower. I have ring holders in the shape of an elephant. To me it’s unrealistic to never take it off. I’ll be a nurse soon and I’ll only be allowed to wear my band. It really depends on your lifestyle. Also never wear your ring to the beach or pool. The salt from the ocean can cause your finger to shrink and you can lose it. The pool water can discolor it too.

I take mine off all the time. I don't like washing my hands, dishes or taking a shower with it on. I also can't sleep with it on. I will wear it if we go anywhere but sometimes I do forget.

I'm an actor, so I have to take it off any time I'm working. I also take it off if I'm showering or doing chores, I don't want it to get damaged or lost down the drain or something! 😳

Yeah I take mine off when I feel like something might happen. Like if I’m eating a particularly messy food with my hands, or washing my dog or myself, and getting my nails done are all examples of when I take it off. I don’t want to run the risk of it snagging or getting stuff caught in the design.

I usually take it off when I get home. I'm busy running around cleaning, cooking, working out, or showering. I don't want to get it dirty (or lose it)!

Especially if I'm the only one home, who cares?

But if I leave the house, I'll put the ring back on. I'll take it off when I'm washing my hands in public restrooms - risky but I hate washing my hands with it on.

I, personally, wear it 24/7 because I have a bad memory and lose things fairly often. Wearing it lessens the chance I lose it.

I take mine off while I workout, shower, cook and do the dishes. I use the time (usually cooking and dishes time) to let it soak in the cleaner I have. I do immediately put it back on as soon as I’m done whatever I’m doing. Obviously it’s personal preference but my FH designed my ring himself, I absolutely adore it, and I’m super proud to wear it so I’m wearing it as much as I possibly can.

I usually take mine off when I get home at night and if we are not going out anymore that day. I never sleep or shower with it on. I tend to sleep on my hands and I can see myself scratching my face or eyes with it. And then I just put it on after I shower in the morning. I know people who wear their ring 24/7, and that is ok for them. I think it is personal preference. If it does not bother your FH, then that is all that matters. And if it did, you can try to explain to him why you are taking it off and hopefully he will understand. Sorry they made you feel bad, but, not to be rude, it is really none of there business.

My ring is a 120 year old band with a slightly newer opal stone.

There's no way I'm wearing that to work at a restuarant. At the least it'll get filled with gunk; at most it will get all scratched up. I wear a silicone one in its place, but honestly it's good to ler your skin breathe! My fiance has to take his ring off quite often because it's such a wide band his skin gets irritated.

I do the same as you. Wear it while out and take it off when I get home. Do whatever you are comfortable with.

    Hi there!

Don’t feel bad for how others go about it!! I take mine off to go to the gym because I lift heavy weights and do not want to bang it. It’s also uncomfortable to wear any rings while weight training for me personally. I will also take it off to shower because with the soap, the ring will start to do loops on my finger and get in the way. Other than that, I will keep it on to sleep, and other day to day tasks. Do what feels right for you! No need to please any other person IMO. Hope this helps!

    kindly,
    Future Mrs. Dominguez

I take my mine off when I do things that might scratch, damage, or when I swim. I bought a silicone ring off amazon for really cheap that I wear at the gym or beach, etc. as a placeholder. You could look into that option!

To be honest, I almost never wear my ring. I work as a butcher, and before that I was a line cook. We weren't allowed to have jewelry except for a plain metal band. Even that I worry will get caught while I'm working on a bandsaw or something. I also never wear it while I'm at home, only if I'm going out. My fiance doesn't care, and understands the situation. You can tell anyone who makes you feel bad to screw off.

I never take it off. Gives to much room for losing it or misplacing it. I would be devastated if that happened.
