Hello all!

I’m not sure if this is the proper group for this discussion. However, I wanted to know if you ladies and/or gents wear your engagement rings all the time.

Recently, I was made to feel bad, perhaps unintentionally but perhaps not, about not wearing my engagement ring 24/7. My FHs family and I were talking about planning and my rings and such. When a member of his family said that an engagement ring should be worn at ALL times and never taken off, with quite the attitude. As if she judging me for taking it off. Mind you, I take it off right when I get home, and put it right back on when I go out anywhere. I don’t want to get it dirty, damaged, or lose its shine while I am doing my everyday tasks at home.

So tell me, what do you do? Do you wear it at all times, without taking it off? Or do you take it off for certain tasks?

I'm going to have it off for the majority of the time as I am leaving for bootcamp soon so my fiance will have it with him. Knowing that I wont be able to wear it alot we made a promise that he would always be the one to put it back on me. It almost is like reliving the moment everytime. Other than the times my job wont allow me to wear it or while I'm in bootcamp I will never take it off if it's my choice. It over time will wear down, get scratched, get bent a little, but it's not just a materialistic item to be held on a pedestal it's a reminder and a representative of love and promises and firsts and lasts. I'd rather in 5 years look at my ring with dirt in it, scratches all over the gold, a little bend in the band, than look down and not see it at all because I'm trying to preserve it rather than cherish it and be reminded of the love it represents. You can always get your ring touched up or professionally cleaned anyhow. Live in the present, you cant take your possessions with you when you go, if it's important to you cherish it while you have it.

The jeweler told me that I should never wear it at home and when I'm out I should not wear it when washing my hands, swimming, yard work, exercise, etc. I followed that in the beginning and it got old. So I wear it when sleeping and when home. But I always take it off when exercising, cleaning, working on the house, yard work, etc. I have started to take it off every so often because I get a weird reaction if I left it on a lot while sweating or showering. Almost like mild blisters. A friend doesn't wear hers at all because she doesn't like jewelry.

I wear mine 24/7 but I have an issue with my knuckles being a size 5.5 and my actual finger being a size 4.5 so it's difficult for me to get off and on, I have to use a special spray I got from the jewelry store. However, I don't see any problem with you taking it off out of fear of messing it up!! It sounds like the person that said that was just being messy and giving you a hard time for no reason. As long as your FH doesn't have a problem with it (which idk why he would) I wouldn't give it a second thought!! Do what you do girl!! Congratulations on the up coming wedding!!

I take it off when I shower and when I go to sleep. It’s standard to take it off for certain things.

I never take mine off, but I also just like to wear my rings. I have a ring on my other hand that I haven't taken off in years because my aunt who passed away gave it to me.

I don't wear mine all the time either and I usually take it off when I get home. If I'm out somewhere or I'm spending the weekend at his house, I wear it. I LOVE my ring & the fact that my fiancé took his time to pick a ring that was suited my taste perfectly & that he put alot of thought into it, but I'm always afraid of losing it. I take it off when I'm at home cleaning, cooking, planting flowers or plants or if I know I'll have to spend time out in the warehouse logging in inventory or pulling equipment for jobs at work. It would break both our hearts if I lost it.

I leave mine on unless I know my hand are going to be super messy or I’m going somewhere where I could lose it (ie: water park, lake) but usually when I take it off I forget to put it back on for a few day... oops. But do whatever make you more comfortable!

I only take mine off for showering and sleeping. Sometimes cooking, if I’m doing something messy like making dough or mixing meatballs. But otherwise it’s on my hand all the time! I will say that it fits my finger snugly (there’s no way it can fall off) and is insured.

I never have taken it off. Thankfully the things I do in my life doesn’t require me to. But if it did I’d try to find a way around it! Lol

I hardly ever take mine off, unless I’m deep cleaning the house, and depending on the day, at work. My fiancé will have a rubber band whenever he’s working (he does construction) and for more formal events or get togethers, he’ll wear the ring I bought him!

I only take my ring off when I'm going to the gym and sometimes when washing the dishes. I also took my ring off for the beach and swimming, but I don't take my off on the regular. I love wearing my ring but everyone is different.

I wear it when I feel like it. Sometimes it gets a little tight from being hot and I forget to wear it for days to give my finger a break. I'm not an everyday jewelry wearer, to begin with, so its no big deal to me or my partner. It's also a family heirloom that has a diamond that sticks out pretty far and gets caught on things, means the world to me but does not quite fit my lifestyle.

I always wear mine unless I’m doing the dishes or showering or something. But I’ve always been a ring wearer so it’s just something I’m used to! Don’t let anyone make you feel bad for not wearing yours! If you’re worried about losing it or something you could always buy a silicone or wood ring to wear!

I take mine off when I lift weights, shower, etc.; I want to protect and preserve it. You should not feel bad about taking it off.

Since I work in the medical field and wash my hands at least 200 times a day. I wear a replacement ring, I seem to wear my ring only during occasions/ outings.

I don’t wear mine all the time because of certain home and work tasks. Yeah of course you can wear it all the time but when you are at home you just want to wine down. So I don’t think it’s a big deal it is totally understandable.

I wear my engagement ring most of the time, unless I'm taking a shower, swimming, putting on lotion, cooking or if my hands are swollen. I love my ring & when I'm not wearing it, I can totally tell its not there cause my hand feels weird without it. I also got a cheaper ring to wear out in certain places/occasions that my real one could get lost/stolen or broken. But everyone is different & so is everyone's marriage, it's not right to judge someone for wearing or not wearing their rings.

I wear mine all the time. I do this because I’m forgetful. It’s up to you what you do. Truthfully I need to be better about taking it off when I’m doing something with my hands because it’s already needed a repair and I just got it redipped to get it shiny again before the wedding. I do have a silicone ring for when I remember. If you care about their opinion you can get one of those. You really shouldn’t care though. It’s your hand, not theirs!
