Wearing a ring 24/7?

Hello all! I’m not sure if this is the proper group for this discussion. However, I wanted to know if you ladies and/or gents wear your engagement rings all the time. Recently, I was made to feel bad, perhaps unintentionally but perhaps not, about not wearing my engagement ring 24/7. My FHs family...
Hello all!

I’m not sure if this is the proper group for this discussion. However, I wanted to know if you ladies and/or gents wear your engagement rings all the time.

Recently, I was made to feel bad, perhaps unintentionally but perhaps not, about not wearing my engagement ring 24/7. My FHs family and I were talking about planning and my rings and such. When a member of his family said that an engagement ring should be worn at ALL times and never taken off, with quite the attitude. As if she judging me for taking it off. Mind you, I take it off right when I get home, and put it right back on when I go out anywhere. I don’t want to get it dirty, damaged, or lose its shine while I am doing my everyday tasks at home.

So tell me, what do you do? Do you wear it at all times, without taking it off? Or do you take it off for certain tasks?

    I take mine off to shower or if I’m getting in the hot tub/swimming! Other than that I pretty much wear it all the time because I just love staring at it & reminding myself that I’m engaged 😂♥️

    I take it off to sleep, shower, wash dishes, and if I'm working out with weights. I think wearing it out is good enough, even if you don't wear it at home at all. There are articles saying when you "shouldn't" wear your ring.

    I take mine off all the time; cooking, cleaning, shower, going to bed, workout, swollen fingers, work sometimes (I work in a lab). Mine wasn't a super expensive ring but I want to take care of it, so I take it off whenever I need to. I even forget to put it back on sometimes, teehee!

    Since I take it off all the time I bought a bunch of ring cones and put them everywhere I usually take my ring off (bathroom, night stand, kitchen and office) got some for my fiancé too. Three cones cost me $3 in TJMaxx, they were on clearance. You can get them at Etsy, Amazon, Walmart...basically anywhere.

    It's your ring, you do you girl!

    I work in jewelry wearing your ring 24/7 is soooo bad for it. I do not wear mine when at home either. At the very least, you should not wear it when showering, sleeping, and cleaning your home. The soap scum can build up during the shower, dulling your diamonds. Wearing it while sleeping causes unneeded wear and tear on your prongs (think the prongs rubbing against your sheets, pillow, etc.) and the chemicals in cleaning products can damage both the stones and metal.


    You are not wrong in not wearing your ring all the time. You are extending its life.

    The only time I take mine off is if I’ll be in water for long periods of time. So not to wash my hands, but things like showers, swimming, or doing dishes. However, it is YOUR ring. You should get to decide when and how you want to wear it. It may be tradition to wear it all the time, but that isn’t practical for everyone!

    I do not sleep in my ring, shower, swim, or do intensive cleaning where it could get caught on something. But I am also newly engaged so I don't know how long I will be able to this crazy about it! haha

    At the end of the day it is an investment (so make sure you get your rings ensured ladies) and don't do anything that would cause it damage or your hand! ☺️

    I think for everyone’s perspective is different. I put my ring on in the morning after my morning routine and im dressed. I usually take it off once I get home and change to cook and clean up. I definitely wear it daily but am not as pressed to wear it around the house especially while doing household chores. I say, do what works for you!

    I do the same thing!

    My fingers swell when I sleep with it, it fits perfectly during the day but if I sleep with it I wake up with pain! I also take it off the instant I get home and I put it back on when I leave the house! I never leave the house without it. My husband never takes his off, ever! Sometimes I feel guilty for taking it off, especially because he wears his 24/7. I have this beautiful little dish that says Mrs. DLM with a heart in the middle and I always keep it there when I am not wearing it, I like putting it in that dish because it is so beautiful. I can't imagine wearing it 24/7! I wear it to the gym and it breaks my heart when a weight hits it! I am petrified of losing a stone while doing laundry or the dishes as well!

    I take my ring off when I'm going to the beach or working out. Other than that I pretty much wear it all the time to remind other guys that I'm off the market and I just love looking at it 😊😂

    I take mine off for showers, dishes , yard work ,lotion etc otherwise have it on. Do what you want it's your ring. Smiley smile

    I've been trying to decide how often to wear mine. It's still new so I don't like taking it off yet unless I'm showering or something like that. I have the feeling I'll start taking it off for the gym, cooking, etc though.

    I wear mine 24/7. If I’m cooking something, I wear food prep gloves. It’s personal preference though!

    I definitely do the same! When I get home, I take my ring off simply because I don’t want to get damaged when cleaning or doing dishes, etc. and I don’t shower with it either. I think getting soap in the ring would make it sparkle less and I don’t want that at all.

    I was also advised by a friend to purchase a cheaper, fake ring to wear day to day (on the train, at work, etc). But I want to wear the ring my fiancé picked out and spent his hard earned money on!

    Oh yes. That's a big deal to most people. If my fiance takes his wedding ring off at any point when it's not absolutely necessary I will be suspicious and upset. It's a symbol to the rest of the world that says I'm taken. I'm committed. Don't approach me. It's a symbol to each other that we are one. To not wear it without a discussion would make some become worried. you have to communicate and come to an agreement that works for both of you. Maybe wear it on a necklace. it takes a while to get used to wearing a ring but after you do you will feel weird without it.

    I don’t wear my engagement ring when I’m doing yard work because I’m afraid of damaging it. I also do not wear it when doing anything with water, I’m afraid it will slide off and disappear. Lastly I don’t wear it at night just in case my fingers swell. I just make sure I put it on when I leave the house. Sinead you do what is best for you. Your never going to please everyone in your life and all that matters is how your fiancé feels

    I wear mine all the time, except when I’m showering, cleaning etc. I definitely don’t wear it when I’m sleeping but if I’m leaving the house I wear it faithfully lol

    My ring company actually suggests to take off your ring while sleeping, showering, and washing the dishes. I definitely don’t suggest sleeping with it since you can end up scratching yourself or your fiancé haha . However my rule for myself so that I never loose it is that it’s either on my finger or in it’s box. I never take it off outside of my home. Lastly, I suggest never resting it on a sink as a friend of mine lost her ring down the drain that way!

    Engagement ring always comes off if when I am at home because I don't want to lose it.Before the first time I took it off, I did talk to my fiance about what he thought about me not always having it on at home.He didn't care, but we agreed when we actually get our wedding bands those will stay on 24/7
