Hello all!

I’m not sure if this is the proper group for this discussion. However, I wanted to know if you ladies and/or gents wear your engagement rings all the time.

Recently, I was made to feel bad, perhaps unintentionally but perhaps not, about not wearing my engagement ring 24/7. My FHs family and I were talking about planning and my rings and such. When a member of his family said that an engagement ring should be worn at ALL times and never taken off, with quite the attitude. As if she judging me for taking it off. Mind you, I take it off right when I get home, and put it right back on when I go out anywhere. I don’t want to get it dirty, damaged, or lose its shine while I am doing my everyday tasks at home.

So tell me, what do you do? Do you wear it at all times, without taking it off? Or do you take it off for certain tasks?

I don’t believe that you have to wear it 24/7, everyone is different.
A year into dating, my now FH, he gave me a promise ring. And with that I only took it off when my hands would swell or when I was showing or cleaning. The ring was very small and flat so it was like you didn’t have a ring on at all.
BUT since I got my engagement ring this year, it is not like my promise ring at all. The diamond sits very high, which I’m not used to, plus the edges are sharp. Don’t get me wrong I LOVE my engagement ring, but because it sits so high and is sharp I only wear my ring when I go out or whenever my finger feels naked. I’m still getting used to mine!
So everyone is different on how they feel comfortable on wearing their rings and in all it’s your decision on what makes you feel comfortable! ☺️

The only time I ever take my ring off is if I am cleaning with any sort of chemical. The ring is a huge symbol for me, and I waited so long for it that I want it on all the time!!

I love wearing my ring but if I'm doing house work I definitely take it off. I also take it off when I'm working out because it gets super uncomfortable but I got a little rubber ring to wear there.

The only time I take my ring off is to take a shower or do dishes. Today I took it off so that I could do some painting at my Dad's place where I live.

I only take mine off when I'm doing hands on stuff like cooking/baking, gardening. Otherwise I keep it on per request. FH says he prefer I wear it 24/7. My hand swelled a month or so ago and I took off my ring bc it hurt and I got out of the habit of wearing it and FH asked me to put it back on and said he wanted the world to know I was taken and that he felt more comfortable when I had it on then it just sitting in the house in it's box. Ultimately the choice is yours.

I wear mine all the time, except when I am going to shower or going to bed.

As someone who works with different metal types, I can honestly say that you should not feel guilty for this. You should always take jewelry off when showering, cleaning and doing heavy handed work, our skin also has certain oils and a slight acidity that can break down the metal coating over time. Like white gold, it will sometimes yellow a bit in a very small amount of time if you skin doesn't get along with it. I personally battle this myself. If you wish to prolong the timing between times you need the ring to be serviced. This will not only save on times that it will need to be clean and worked on, but each time the ring is polished, it does wear the metal thinner over long chunks of time.
Signed, your friend in the jewelry business!

I take mine off to sleep, shower, work out and clean. I like to put mine on as soon as I wake up in the morning, but my FW and I are long distance right now, so it’s sort of like a support/security thing. Once we’re living together again I can see myself forgetting to put it on a lot

I only take mine off to apply lotion. Mine has a bumper on the back because it is a quarter size to small and I have to get it resized after the wedding. Taking jt off is super annoying so I leave it on all the time mostly. And it has not been any less shiny than the day I got it in December

I take mine off to sleep, shower, whenever I wash my hands, do dishes, cook, and once the new one comes in I'm going to wear it on a chain at work so it won't get damaged. So there's nothing wrong with taking it off; depending on the metal and stone it's actually recommended to avoid damage.

I take it off for shower, lotion and sometimes cleaning. Sometimes I have to take it off for my job but other than that it’s on at all times. I’m not worried about the shine so much - that’s just me

I definitely think it’s just a different time now. The rules are whatever you make them. Same with wearing your band above or below, it’s whatever you and your partner decide. I’m a chef but now work in somewhat of an office/culinary event planning environment but I still get paranoid about my ring getting damaged. I like the feeling the wearing something and being “used” to something on my finger so I wear a silicone ring. Do whatever makes you comfortable!

I take mine off because I'm a nursing student, and I'm not allowed to wear my rings unless they're pretty much seamless or a band. I wouldn't even want to wear a band in there because...hospital=gross. I'm not risking my good jewelry on C. diff or MRSA. Gotta be joking.

No one cares. I didn't wear one that often even before school.
If I do wear something it's a silicone ring. Cheap and disposable compared.

You're not supposed to wear jewelry all the time. You're supposed to take it off for cooking, cleaning, gardening, showering, going to the gym, gross crap.

I take mine off when I sleep, when I am washing dishes, when I am working out, and even when I wash my hands. I have sensitive skin and I got soap under it once and it irritated my skin so bad I had to take it off that day. I don't think it is absolutely necessary to wear it every minute of every day. There are definitely a lot of things people do that you should not wear your ring for.

I feel like I spend most of my time without my ring on! I work as a nurse, so I’d rather be safe and leave it at home rather than wearing it.

I very rarely take it off , only to do my hair with products , or something like that other than that ,if I take it off it goes in the safe and I have an ever us ring I wear instead but that’s only when we go to the beach( diving, swimming,etc..) or when we travel somewhere where I feel it might get lost ( the cabin in the woods, the river, places like that )

it’s too special and too expensive to just take it off and leave in a box

I only wear my engagement ring on the weekends or when we're going out for a special dinner. I work around electricity and I can't have a metal ring on at work.
