Hello all!

I’m not sure if this is the proper group for this discussion. However, I wanted to know if you ladies and/or gents wear your engagement rings all the time.

Recently, I was made to feel bad, perhaps unintentionally but perhaps not, about not wearing my engagement ring 24/7. My FHs family and I were talking about planning and my rings and such. When a member of his family said that an engagement ring should be worn at ALL times and never taken off, with quite the attitude. As if she judging me for taking it off. Mind you, I take it off right when I get home, and put it right back on when I go out anywhere. I don’t want to get it dirty, damaged, or lose its shine while I am doing my everyday tasks at home.

So tell me, what do you do? Do you wear it at all times, without taking it off? Or do you take it off for certain tasks?

I wear mine most of the time, but I bake a lot, so I take it off then so it doesn’t get caked in dough and flour. Same with showering and cooking, or sleeping. Other than that, I pretty much have it on.

I did wear it for about three days straight when we first got engaged lol...I didn’t want to take it off!

I take mine off while cooking, cleaning, showering/swimming and when sleeping. My engagement ring means THE WORLD to me and damaging my ring would be devastating!

I only take my ring off when showering, sometimes sleeping, and if I’m doing something that might get my ring gross (like cooking certain things). I wore a promise ring before my engagement ring though so I was used to wearing something already.

I wear it when I go out, but I never wear it to work and I usually don't wear it when I'm home.

My ring never leaves my finger lol. However I was always told that if I’m cleaning with chemical to wear gloves or take off my rings. I wear gloves lol

My jeweler gave me specific not-to-wear situations so I follow those. I don’t wear it to sleep, in the shower, washing dishes, swimming, or while working out. Pretty reasonable! I just think about how devastated I would be if I severely damaged it or lost it. It’s already a little worn on the bottom of the band and that makes me sad enough!!

I take mine off all the time. I'm a hairstylist, there's no way I'm wearing it while washing people's hair or doing hair colors. I don't wear it running, cleaning, cooking, working out in the yard, or taking a shower. Those are all quick ways to mess up your ring. I wear it to work then take it off when my first client arrives, put it back on before I head home & if we go into town I wear it but if I'm just sitting at home there's a 99% chance I'm not wearing it.

I take mine off when I shower and often times when I go to sleep. I've scratched my FH a few times with it (marquee cut) so I'm wary. I also for sure take it off if I'm cleaning with chemicals. My FH jokingly poked fun at me for not wearing it but he understands now that he's been maimed 😂

I actually very rarely wear mine. Mostly because my job is such that I don’t want to risk damaging it. I’ll wear my wedding band 24/7 because I’m going to get one that won’t be easily damaged but I know fh spent a lot on my engagement ring and we would both be upset if it got damaged. So I wear on the weekends and date nights, anytime I don’t have to worry about it.

I take mine off when I cook, clean, dishes, shower, and sleep! My stone is a tanzanite so it’s more fragile than most rings! I would
be heart broken if something happened to it!

I wear it almost all the time, I take it off if I’m showering, going to the gym, doing home repairs, or cooking and it’s gonna be messy, mainly I don’t want to bang it around, or goop it up with sweat, soap, conditioner, or food. I waited 10+ years, for that ring I’m not ruining it by roughing it up. I have had the stone fall out of a family heirloom and get lost, and I couldn’t handle that happening again.

I take mine off to cook, clean, and shower.... especially if I'm doing something like cleaning the bathroom or cat box, lol. I know these activities can slowly damage the settings (or the idea of getting particulate in the small bits skeeves me out). Since our warranty jeweler is across the country it seems prudent to try and preserve something so precious to me as best I can. But I think this is really a personal choice and no one should judge your decision to take it on or off as much or as little as you like!

I take mine off before bed, to clean, to shower, to swim, to do yard work. If I'm just spending the day at home I don't even put it back on until I leave the house, it'll stay in its case where I left it the night before bed. My part time job is at a kennel for cats where I'm doing a lot of cleaning and hands on work, so I don't wear it there either. I would be devastated if it got lost or broken so I would rather not wear it in instances that could cause that to happen.

I take mine off if I'm doing anything that woukd get my hands dirty, i.e. gardening, handling chicken, deep cleaning. But other than that I wear it 24/7. Showering, swimming, working out. I have a ring cleaned and just make sure to shine it up once a week.

I barely wear mine. I can’t wear mine while I work and I don’t put it on when I get home because I don’t want to wear it in the shower or while cleaning. On my days off when I go places I will put it on but even then I forget sometimes because I keep it locked in the safe. I can’t wait to get my wedding band since I can actually wear it to work. I specifically picked plain band for that reason.

Sometimes take it off to sleep. I always take it off to shower, do dishes, go to the beach... anything that there is a risk of losing it.

I take mine off for work as I do heavy lifting, stacking chairs, and such at my job; lots of working with my hands and don’t want to damage it. I do have a different (flat not raised gems) rings that I wear for work instead though. My FH proposed with that ring as we were getting an inherited diamond and he wanted me to have the perfect setting for it.

Otherwise I also take it off before I go to sleep but also if I’m doing dishes or cleaning with any abrasive cleaners.

But I do clean mine with a soft toothbrush and water when it starts to get dirty to bring back the sparkle!
