Hello all!

I’m not sure if this is the proper group for this discussion. However, I wanted to know if you ladies and/or gents wear your engagement rings all the time.

Recently, I was made to feel bad, perhaps unintentionally but perhaps not, about not wearing my engagement ring 24/7. My FHs family and I were talking about planning and my rings and such. When a member of his family said that an engagement ring should be worn at ALL times and never taken off, with quite the attitude. As if she judging me for taking it off. Mind you, I take it off right when I get home, and put it right back on when I go out anywhere. I don’t want to get it dirty, damaged, or lose its shine while I am doing my everyday tasks at home.

So tell me, what do you do? Do you wear it at all times, without taking it off? Or do you take it off for certain tasks?

I don't wear my ring when I go to sleep and when I'm in the shower; that way it won't get caught in my bedding, or search either of us.

I sometimes take mine off to sleep.
But I always take it off for things like exercising, cleaning with chemicals, cooking that needs hands on and house projects.
I love wearing it and I wear a silicone ring when I have a day or two of things that could damage my pretty ring.
I have a friend who inherited her grandmothers wedding ring in high school. She wore it while we restained some playground equipment and it still has stain embedded in the settings 6+ years later. I dont want to risk that with my rings.

Don’t feel bad. My mom told me to wear it at all times. I remove to wash my hand and when I apply lotion but that’s about it.

I wear my ring mostly throughout the day. Only time I take it off is either I'm washing dishes, or clothes.

Screw that. I'm not wearing mine as I type this and I'm at work! I am afraid of losing it, making it dirty or damaging it. I wear it when we go to parties and family events, or if I'm having a casual lunch out with a friend. But for hanging out around the house, going to work, the gym, the grocery store etc...I don't really see the point. I don't use the ring to symbolize my loyalty or how much I love/am dedicated to my fiance. He actually is happier when its safe in its box at home because he spent so much money on it! lol. Do whatever makes you feel happiest and comfortable. It's your ring, and it means what it means to YOU. No one else's opinion is necessary!

I wear mine 24/7 just because I absolutely love it and never want to take it off! The only times I take it off is if my BP is high (because my hands swell) or if I’m taking a bath/shower. I’m super confident in my ring and I have a LT warranty. So if it does get damaged, I know I can take it back and get it repaired. Don’t be ashamed to take it off. Not everyone can wear a ring 24/7.

Hi there!
I take mine off ALL the time! I too do not want it to get dirty, scratched, or dull. It's new and I want to keep it looking new forever! I don't really like to take it off but in order to keep it looking nice its a good idea to remove it during some daily tasks.
I know how you feel. Since I didn't want mine to get dirty and I wanted it to sparkle all the time, I looked up a simple cleaning solution that jewelry stores use to bring the sparkle back to your diamonds. I mix one tbsp ammonia (which you can buy at any local grocery store) and 2 - 3 tbsp hot water and a drop of dish soap. Let it soak for 10 min total. After 5 min brush with a soft toothbrush to remove any built up soap and lotion, put it back in the solution and repeat after 5 min again. I do this once a week to keep it sparkling! This method has helped me be able to wear my ring more frequently without the worry of it looking dull or getting dirty from hand lotion or soaps.

Nope, I don't wear it all the time. My jeweler said to take it off when cleaning, doing dishes as the cleaning products can damage the finish. Same with swimming and chlorine. I work a labor intensive job and it would damage my ring, so days I have to move heavy objects I leave it off. I also do not sleep with it as I have woken with scratches. My FH understands and is fine with it. It's a symbol of commitment, he knows I'm all in this relationship and that is all that matters.

I love my ring too much to wear it all the time. I work in the jewelry industry and have seen so many things come through that break or lose stones because people wear them doing EVERYTHING. Of you're doing something with your hands it's a good idea to take it off especially if any stones or prongs are super exposed. If you want to always wear a ring I would suggest getting a silicone band for when you're doing things with your hands. That way you can wear a ring and keep your expensive one looking amazing!

I take off my ring only when I’m cooking to season the meat when I’m washing dishes so nothing get stuck in the ring. When I shower and wash my hair. And when I lotion my body besides that my to god on all the time.

When I first got engaged, I never took it off UNTIL I went to go get it sized and they said my stone was lose more than likely from never taking it off. The jeweler’s exact words were “bed sheets are a diamond’s worst enemy”. He recommended that I take it off when I go to bed. So I will do that and when I’m gardening or at the beach. I wouldn’t listen to what his family says. You’re only looking out for your precious jewel

I dont wear mine when im sleeping, showering, puting on lotion or any other cream in my hands, but i wear it just about all the time otherwise. Sometimes dont put it on for a while when i wake up though. Mine is white gold plated and its honestly probably a bad idea for me to wear mine while doing heavy work the way i do, but how you wear your ring is totaly up to you. If your FH is offended by you not wearing it all the time then maybe have that conversation, but if not, then who cares what anyone else thinks

Personally I have never taken it off, but it’s completely up to you. You shouldn’t feel bad if you take it off when you get home or when doing certain tasks. It’s a personal preference.

I only take off my ring for daily tasks; cleaning, showering, doing hair and makeup or if i'm doing an outdoor activity; swimming, gardening etc. However, it's your ring and you should wear it or not wear it as you see fit.
