Hello all!

I’m not sure if this is the proper group for this discussion. However, I wanted to know if you ladies and/or gents wear your engagement rings all the time.

Recently, I was made to feel bad, perhaps unintentionally but perhaps not, about not wearing my engagement ring 24/7. My FHs family and I were talking about planning and my rings and such. When a member of his family said that an engagement ring should be worn at ALL times and never taken off, with quite the attitude. As if she judging me for taking it off. Mind you, I take it off right when I get home, and put it right back on when I go out anywhere. I don’t want to get it dirty, damaged, or lose its shine while I am doing my everyday tasks at home.

So tell me, what do you do? Do you wear it at all times, without taking it off? Or do you take it off for certain tasks?

I wear mine 95% of the time but take it off when I'm sleeping, showering, and cleaning. I feel naked when it's not on because I'm so used to it being there!

That’s ridiculous. Literally any jeweler would suggest you not wear it 24/7. I take mine off to sleep, cook, and shower. And I’m notorious for never taking rings off! But I want to care for this very special one. Send your in-laws some literature from the internet and educate them 🙄

I also have a matching Enso silicone ring for the gym.

I take my ring off when I clean and sleep. I usually wear a silicone ring when I do physical activity because I don’t want to lose or damage my ring!

I take it off when I go to sleep, take a shower, do the dishes, and do yard work.

I only take it off when I go to the gym (so the weights don't mark up the band). I used to take it off more frequently however I am WAY more prone to losing it if I'm always taking it on and off. There's no "right" answer to this. You do you!

When I finally receive mine, I will probably wear it most times unless I’m cooking or cleaning. But it’s your choice on when to wear it in my opinion. Unless hubby to be is bothered, don’t worry about anyone else’s opinion. Btw we are planning the wedding and paying but I have yet to receive my ring.

I am a sahm with a 3 month old. When I’m home I don’t wear my ring because I’m cleaning, doing laundry and dealing with poop, pee and vomit. (TMI sorry) The moment I leave my house tho, my ring is always on. I also have a fear of my diamond being knocked lose because it sits up high 😫

I take mine off when I cook, wash dishes, yard work, or anything that I feel is going to get it dirty. I also don’t sleep with mine on or when I shower and get ready for the day. I don’t want to get my makeup and what not all over it.

My ring is still being made, but knowing me, I'll only take it off while weightlifting, because I don't want to bend it or pinch myself, and while showering because my shampoo and conditioner have dye in them. Those are the only times I take off the rings I wear now. I'm too scared I'll lose it if I take it off more frequently.

I always wear my ring. The only time I take it off is if I’m cleaning and when I’m cleaning I wear it on a chain around my neck. It costs a lot of money but I have insurance for it so either way I’m good.

I bought my fiance an engagement ring just because of this. I'm not property to be marked as "his". It's a sign of commitment, and we are both equally committed to this relationship.

I wear mine when I go out for an extended period of time and I’ll usually where it at home just because I love it so much. I take it off when I use the restroom, shower, wash dishes, or use cleaning chemicals. I also take it off when I sleep.

My mom mom and grandmothers don’t wear theirs at all. There is no “normal” for YOUR ring. Where it when you want and don’t when you don’t! The judgey Aunt can stay mad and judgey as her ring diminishes in beauty from wear and tear 🤷🏻‍♀️

Heck yes I take it off! Most times as soon as I get home while I’m taking off my work clothes. And funny enough, FH actually proposed with 2 different rings. The second is a more “casual“ ring that I wear when I go to the gym and when I’m around the house. I don’t wear my engagement ring while cooking, cleaning, washing dishes or taking a shower. And since those are activities I do at home, I take it off altogether or swap to my other ring.
But who cares what other people do? Do what YOU prefer.... because taking off your ring doesn’t mean you’re not engaged.

I rarely wear mine honestly. I'm Autistic and wearing jewelry can be a sensory nightmare, but I love my ring and my fiancé so I wear my engagement ring on special occasions or around family (like this weekend when we go out for my birthday dinner! Smiley heart ). Don't let them make you feel bad about not wearing it, I'm sure your FH knows you love them whether you wear it or not.
