Hello all!

I’m not sure if this is the proper group for this discussion. However, I wanted to know if you ladies and/or gents wear your engagement rings all the time.

Recently, I was made to feel bad, perhaps unintentionally but perhaps not, about not wearing my engagement ring 24/7. My FHs family and I were talking about planning and my rings and such. When a member of his family said that an engagement ring should be worn at ALL times and never taken off, with quite the attitude. As if she judging me for taking it off. Mind you, I take it off right when I get home, and put it right back on when I go out anywhere. I don’t want to get it dirty, damaged, or lose its shine while I am doing my everyday tasks at home.

So tell me, what do you do? Do you wear it at all times, without taking it off? Or do you take it off for certain tasks?

I take mine off while washing dishes/showering (don't want it slipping into the drain), cooking & cleaning (don't want any potential food or chemicals to discolor it), doing heavy lifting/major housework (don't want to smash it or have something dropped on it), and sleeping. Otherwise it's on, so I can show it off!

I wear my ring 24/7 but I’ve always been a bit of a ring addict and now that I have THE ring, I never want to take it off. I would, however, take it off if I were to be getting into anything real dirty (e.g. working on my truck) or in a case where I may lose it (e.g. swimming in the ocean)
Personally, I 100% agree with the general consensus here - everyone is different. If you want to take off your ring while you’re at home doing housework, showering, sleeping - go for it, girl. Your FH’s fam will have lots of opinions about lots of things but at the end of the day the most important thing is how you and FH feel. Remember that. ❤️

I typically only take mine off when showering, doing dishes, or anything else where my hands may get dirty or have chemicals on them. I don’t like taking it off when I sleep, but my jeweler has recommended that I do to help keep the stone from get loose/damaged/etc. He says they’re really not meant to be worn 24/7 but I love having mine on so I prefer to wear it as much as possible while ensuring I won’t damage it somehow.

Most days I do wear it all day but there are some times when I get an allergic reaction under the ring from soaps so I take it off. My mother in law doesn’t wear her rings all the time she takes them off when she gets home and puts them on when she leaves

I wear mine ALL the time. I occasionally take if off when I shower, otherwise I ALWAYS have mine on. There is no right or wrong, it's up to you! I just know when it's on my finger, it's more safe (less opportunity for me to loose it which would be devastating).

I take mine off for the gym, to sleep, to shower & to do dishes & other duties that involve chemicals that shouldn't be around precious gems. Otherwise I wear it. But there are some days I run out of the house because I'm running late n and I forget to grab it. I feel a little guilty those days, but I normally don't wear jewelry so adding a ring is a new thing.

It’s so bad to wear it 24/7 as in sleeping in it, doing chores in it etc. I rarely wear mine and wear silicone bands almost always except special occasions I put my engagement ring on! I also don’t like wearing mine all the time since it’s from my grandmother who passed away and don’t want to loose it! Silicone bands are the way to go!

You should never wear any jewelry while sleeping, showing, doing the dishes or any other cleaning, and exercising. It can ruin your jewelry pretty quickly. I wear my ring when I’m not doing any of the above activities. However when I know I won’t be leaving my house for the day I won’t put my ring on just to keep it looking really nice. There is nothing wrong with not wearing your engagement ring all the time.

I take it off when doing certain things. I take it off when I shower, wash dishes, give kids baths, anything where my hands get wet or have stuff on them

I take my ring off but it depends on what I am doing. If I'm cleaning etc it comes off or if I'm spending the day at the beach because I dont want to risk losing it. I definitely also take it off to sleep, shower, etc. Everyone is different but no one should be judging you about what you decide!

I take mine off when I workout, clean the house, and at times when I go to sleep. I think it's a really personal decision. Oh and I bought the silicone rings too so I put those on at times.

I do take mine off sometimes. I don’t sleep with it on, and also, I am a nurse, so I do not ever wear it to work in fear that I will throw it away in a glove or damage it or something lol. I know there’s insurance but I am still too scared to wear it there. I did buy one of those silicone rings though that I can wear in place of it while I am working!

I had the opposite issue! I left mine on to sleep in and got yelled at because they thought I was going knock the gems out! Lol I wear it in day to day but take it off if I am doing something messy (raw chicken, litter boxes ect) or if go kayaking as I don't want to lose it! (I still sleep in mine most of the time 🤷)

I take my off when cooking, doing dishes, washing my hands, showering, or when i know my hand are going to get dirty but otherwise it's on my finger. But thats my preference and i think you shouldn't be made to feel bad for not wearing it all the time!

I wear my ring out but at home, I take it off for showers and bedtime. It almost cut me in bed so for prevention I be ssfe!!!

I take my ring off when I'm doing dishes or something messy, and when I sleep. Otherwise, I wear it. I was engaged and married once before, and I almost never wore my rings...

Yes I wear my ring 24/7 🤷🏽‍♀️🤷🏽‍♀️🤷🏽‍♀️ People ask if I am not afraid to lose it, but it became an everyday attachment

My ring was custom made by my dad who's a jeweler. He told me to do the following-I take it off when I'm doing the dishes, washing my face, shower, cooking & when I go to bed. Besides that it's on.

I rarely take mine off - sometimes to do dishes, cleaning, & cooking but not always. I actually asked my jeweler about this and he said that there's no 'rule' that you should or shouldn't take it off, the biggest thing is to take the ring and get it checked periodically. So honestly, its just your personal preference.
