Hello all!

I’m not sure if this is the proper group for this discussion. However, I wanted to know if you ladies and/or gents wear your engagement rings all the time.

Recently, I was made to feel bad, perhaps unintentionally but perhaps not, about not wearing my engagement ring 24/7. My FHs family and I were talking about planning and my rings and such. When a member of his family said that an engagement ring should be worn at ALL times and never taken off, with quite the attitude. As if she judging me for taking it off. Mind you, I take it off right when I get home, and put it right back on when I go out anywhere. I don’t want to get it dirty, damaged, or lose its shine while I am doing my everyday tasks at home.

So tell me, what do you do? Do you wear it at all times, without taking it off? Or do you take it off for certain tasks?

I take mine off every time I shower, do dishes or housework. I also sometimes take it off to sleep (I accidentally cut my cheek with it one night sleeping 😞)

I take mine off while showering, sleeping, cleaning, gardening, or anything else that could damage it!

I take mine off all the time. I only wear it out or to work. Other than that, once I get home it comes off. No need for me to wear it around the house while I'm cooking, cleaning, and doing other miscellaneous tasks. I want this baby staying shiny and new lol.

I only wear mine 2 or 3 times a week, but have been wearing it more lately. I wasn't used to it at first, but now it's starting to feel naked without it.

I only wear it when I go out because if I’m home I’m usually cleaning, cooking or just relaxing lol

I take mine off to shower, wash dishes (usually), do anything dirty like yard work or painting. I also don't wear it to work on days I have to be in the field all day (I'm an engineer). I'd rather not risk having my ring ruined by corrosive soaps or get broken or dirty, but its really up to you! Don't let anyone make you feel bad.

I take my rings off when showering, sleeping, cleaning, exercising/outdoor activities, swimming, putting on lotion. There are a lot of things that you shouldn't do while wearing jewelry, especially an engagement ring.

When exercising/outdoor activities you can damage the prongs, while hard to do - you could scratch or chip a diamond if the angle/cut is right. If you don't have a diamond and have a softer gem, it's even easier to do. Plus your sweat will dull that beautiful sparkle!

Cleaning/swimming in chlorine is an obvious one - the chemicals aren't good for the metal/gem. Washing your hands with normal soap while wearing the ring is fine, but any harsher chemicals you should take it off.

Finally - Sleeping! Especially if you have an antique or vintage ring! Your body conducts heat while you sleep and metal is malleable and your band can break or warp over time!

Also, I think it is weird when I see girls wear their engagement ring in those not so desirable situations. It's like, you seriously can't go an hour workout class without that thing on?

Your ring may be new and shiny now, but if you don't take care of it properly, it's gonna look worse for wear in 5 - 10 years! I've seen it first hand! Also, make sure you take it in every 6 months or so to have the prongs and gem properly checked! The last thing you want is the stone falling out!

....I know you weren't really asking for all that info - but in case anyone wanted the engagement ring 101 education! haha.

I don’t wear mine to work out, to do heavy duty cleaning (laundry, abrasive chemicals, etc) or to sleep (I have an emerald cut ring and the prongs gets snagged on the sheets). Unless those rude people are willing to pay for repairs or a replacement, I would ignore them.

I often take mine off at home! When I’m home, I’m usually cooking, cleaning, doing laundry etc. it is more comfortable to have it off for those things! I always wear it out of the house though (unless it is to the gym or hiking or something and in which case I have a silicone ring).

Don't feel bad! I only wear mine when I'm outside my home. Even then I take it off when I go to the bathroom, wash my hands, clean, and workout. There's no law that you have to keep the ring on 24/7 - in my opinion, that's not the most healthy choice!

I wear mine all the time unless I am showering, sleeping, washing dishes, or doing something that is dirty/greasy. Jewelry “experts” actually suggest that you not sleep or shower in your diamond rings. But otherwise, I wear it constantly.

Just cooking and showing for me. And maybe washing dishes. That’s it. I even sleep in it.

I usually take it off for work (I’m a nurse), working out, and cleaning! No need to risk it being damaged or getting dirty, but it depends on the person and couple!

I take mine off when showering, swimming, doing dishes, if I'm going through dirt for whatever reason, sleeping. Other than that I wear my ring unless I just forget to put it on for whatever reason.
I think it's really just a personal preference thing. When I get my wedding band, that will stay on 24/7

I always take mine off at night. So it doesn't catch on the sheets, preserving the integrity of the ring. I also take it off while cleaning, crafting, bathing, and any time it feels tight. My fingers sweel sometimes in the heat.

I wear mine to work and going out on certain occasions, but that's about it.

It's not on when I'm lounging around the apartment, showering, sleeping, cleaning, etc. I avoid lotion like the plague, and try to even avoid washing my hands with it. If you've seen those Ring Bandit bracelet things, I bought one of those and use it quite often. This is my level of paranoia, lol.
