Sorta WR: How lond did you date before becoming engaged? How long is your engagement?

Julie, on January 31, 2010 at 5:35 AM Posted in Planning 0 93

I was just curious about other couples on this site. Some people may be aware, but I'm not engaged yet, I just wanted to play with the inspiration boards. We are planning on getting engaged, I'm just concerned about it being "too soon." I would like my parents to keep speaking to me... He's thinking at around 6-7 months.

So u guys will have been dating for 6-7 months prior to getting engaged?

FH and i had been dating for 5 years prior to setting our date. we had been discussing marriage for a couple of years but waited for several reasons. our engagement is 10 months - just long enuff to plan the wedding.

Well that seems a little fast but if you guys are sure then go for it. plus bear in mind how long we've been together so take my opinion with a grain of salt (and a shot of tequilla). do u guys plan on having a long engagement or had u discussed that yet?

He really likes the idea of getting married on 11/11/2011 (make a wish, and it's a Friday). So that will be over a year engagement. I know it seems short, and I'm concerned that my parents will think it's TOO short. I know I'm a grown woman and can do what I want, but having their support and blessing is important to both of us. I know if it came down to it, I'd be cool with waiting however long it took. He's the one that's super excited about it!! LOL.

We dated for a year then moved in together. Just after a year of living together he asked me to marry him. Our wedding day will be almost 9 months after he asked me, which has given us plenty of time to plan the wedding.

If they think it's too early for a wedding, just go for a longer engagement then.

My girlfriend and I started dating in November 2009. I asked her to marry me on Jan 5, 2010. Our wedding date is planned for nearly 16 months later on May 14, 2011.

Well that's still a ways out Julie. If you are concerned they'll think it's too soon, you can wait til you've been dating a year to get engaged. That still gives you a realistic timeframe to plan your wedding for 11/11/11. In the meantime, of course you and FH can go ahead and start planning and saving for your wedding. Just keep the details private until the appropriate time.

FH and I have been together (i really hate using the word "dating" because 1) I feel like "dating" means the same as "dating around" and we've been exclusive to one another for 7yrs, not dating eachother and others for that long, yaknow?) and 2) we don't really go on "dates" LOL so.. uhh...haha, yeah. So we've been together since 2003 and we were engaged last Vday, so 2/14/2009.. tho he said he had been thinking about it sooner, he was trying to get $ together for a ring i guess. I didnt really want to wait over a year from our engagement date to be married, it just happened that way.. life happens.. just because your man thinks its the right time to propose & you think its the right time to say YES doesn't mean within a year either of YOU will be ready to get married, mentally, financially, etc. LOTS of ppl have long engagements. Don't feel pressured. & if you're looking to seek approval from your parents then your bf needs to start smootchin some toosh Smiley smile I dunno, but good luck!

We got engaged exactly one month after we met and started dating. We met in august, and then we were inseperable. About 2 weeks later we bought the ring, and he talked to my dad. Then exactly one month later we got engaged. But we have had a long engagement. He proposed in Novemeber 2008, and our wedding date is June 2010

We started dating May 2007. I moved in with him in November of that year... although I practically lived with him months before that. We got engaged June 2009 and are getting married May 2010.

We'd only been dating 5-6 months when I realized that he would be "the one". My cue was that I was completely willing to get rid of anything I owned that he already had (microwave, sofa, etc). I had been unwilling to do so in my previous 6 1/2 year relationship... so I thought that was pretty telling.

Is getting engaged after 6-7 months too soon? I think that depends on the couple. If you feel you are ready for that step, and wish to keep peace with your parents, I see no reason to wait until you've been dating a year. Especially since you are planning a long engagement anyway.

We got engaged 3 months after we met. Our engagement will have been for 9.5 months by the time we marry.

And we will have been with each other for a total of 13 months on our wedding day. Both our parents are happy with it and it helps that my rents got married two weeks after they met... Smiley winking

Mandmglass, i love hearing those types of success stories. they're so heart-warming.

my grade school principal and his wife had been boyfriend/girlfriend since kindergarten and never dated anyone else. they stayed together all through school and college. i thought that was the sweetest thing.

I know it Ladylee....and what makes it cooler is that my FH and I are each other's first girlfriend/boyfriend, first kiss, etc. I dated a lot of men before him, but he's the first I've gotten serious with. FH knew way before I did that I was the one but he kept quiet for as long as he could so as not to scare me off. Which makes me laugh, but I knew from the first date that he only dated just to find someone not to mess around or have fun. In many ways his honesty took a lot of pressure off of me with wondering where it was heading. We talked *alot* in those few months about everything: politics, our beliefs, goals, family, etc. And I click with him better than anyone else I've met. He's my soul-mate and best friend. Smiley smile

We started dating May-ish 2008, made it official in July.. moved in together in August (haha..long story).. and he asked me to marry him in November of 2009. So, when we get married we'll have been together for just over 2 years.

We dated for a year and a half, moved in together, got pregnant, then engaged. We have been engaged since February of 2008. We have been together a total of 5 years. We waited to get married because we had a small child, but we talked about it even before we got engaged for quite some time.

We've been together since June 23, 2008. He asked me to marry him February 13, 2009. So we were together for 8 months before he asked me to marry him. Our wedding will be February 13, 2010. Exactly one year from the day he asked me.
