Price Per Plate??

Dr. & Mrs. R, on August 25, 2014 at 9:37 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 87

How much is your food for the reception per plate? We are having a buffet style with 4 entree options. Chicken, beef, fish, and vegetarian. It comes out to $19.95 a plate. I was just curious if that is a decent price or not.

I think ours, if I remember right, is $28/head...not quite sure and we haven't narrowed down our food decision yet,

ETA: Open bar per person was another $18 person or so

Here in Nova Scotia, Canada, I'm at $43pp for served dinner and $38pp for a buffet. This does not include any alcoholic beverages but is 3 courses with tea/coffee.

I should mention this doesn't include the bar as we are hiring our own bartenders and my FIL's are buying the alcohol. They plan on keeping anything left over. It also does not include appetizers for cocktail hour as FFIL demanded those, he is paying for them.

Mine is about $150 per person, but that also includes the free 1 hour of open bar during cocktail hour, the cocktail hour appetizers, the wine throughout dinner, dinnerware, chairs, etc. We didn't have a rental fee for our venue, just a minimum to spend on food and beverages of $12,000.

Um, that is an amazing price. I am doing plated, but it was actually cheaper than buffet.

$50/pp, $11/pp for bar. I think an extra $5.50/pp for extra apps. Plus tax and gratuity.

I think that price is beyond decent -- I think it's incredible. This seems to be a regional issue. Around here (southern NY/northern NJ), you'd be hard pressed to find anything below $100/PP at a standard wedding venue, although a Friday or Sunday wedding in some venues might bring the cost down to $85/pp.

About $60/pp for food and we're banking on about $30/pp for consumption bar. An open bar was way too much at $40/pp. I doubt people will have more than 6 drinks in like 4.5 hours.

Also, this already includes tax and gratuity.

It also helps my godparents and parents know the owners of the caterer we are using. We eat there in the restaurant part often. They're going to help us find good bartenders too!

In NY time of year, time of day, and day of the week all come into play. I'm paying $120pp which includes an enormous cocktail hour, 3 course meal, cake, dessert bar, cordial station, coffee/tea, 5 hour top shelf open bar, and service charge. They don't usually separate the prices of food from drink here.

We are doing a family style luncheon, it's $18.95 per person and we are paying $3/pp to do a dessert (plus the wedding cake). We are doing a consumption bar so we are only paying up until a certain amount. This was by far the cheapest option (we are having our reception at the restaurant we had our first date! They have a great private room upstairs). But other places were quoting more like $60/pp. I think your deal is very good.

We are doing a buffet and open bar. The cost per person is $22.95. For the open bar we are doing a keg & FH's cousin is making wine for our wedding. I'm in Northeast Ohio.

We ended up choosing an all inclusive place. So it was $50.03 per person for: venue, tables, chairs, linens, dinnerware, bartenders (not alcohol) and mixers, 2 appetizers, family style dining (includes salad, pasta, 2 meats, veggie, starch), various desserts, cake from a local bakery (we work with the bakery and our venue sends them the check) and includes tax and gratuity. So after all that, it ended up being cheaper than the place charging $20/pp, was a MUCH nicer place and the food was a lot better.

We are north eastern Ohio. And $19.95 is where is starts in my area for food only.

We are paying about 97.75 per person. This includes cocktail hour, bar, 4 course cocktail style dinner with dessert, coffee and tea service and our late night food choices.

Dinner itself is $58.75 and includes 5 selections for each course.

My bill came to a whopping $195 per person for 150 guests. Includes full-service plated meal (apps, entrees, desserts, coffee bar) linens, china, etc and open bar for 8 hours.

That price may change though, depending on how many declines I receive.
