Postponing the wedding

Mary , on August 16, 2016 at 9:40 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 168

So, y'all have heard already I'm postponing the wedding for a while but I do have a question. Is it rude to go ahead and have the shower that is scheduled for Saturday? Both of us have people coming in from out of town/ out of state for it. What should I do?

You probably should have considered this before four days out if people are coming in from out of state. oops.

When is the new wedding date?

I bet that most ww will probably disagree with this but I think you shouldn't cancel it. You will still be getting married. You just shouldn't have another one when u set a new date. How long is your postponement?

Didn't you say you weren't getting married til May 2018? I think you should cancel..or at least call your guests and explain you're postponing and let them decide if they still want to come.

If you have people coming in from out of state and out of town its a little late to cancel. Please tell us what role the cat will have in this event.

Who is throwing you the shower? Do they know you postponed, do they want to cancel it?

If it wasn't so last minute, I'd say to notify the hostess of your decision to postpone the wedding and let her decide whether she wanted to also postpone the shower. I would think that if there was plenty of notice, yes the shower should be postponed.

However, it's in 4 days and you have people that have made travel plans. At this point, I think it would be more inconsiderate to cancel the shower on them.

Since ASR is going to be best man I'm assuming he's gonna help rip open presents too?

Beach, please don't crinkle that bag too loud or crunch too loud. Mary scares away easily.

How long ago did you decide to postpone? That's when your guests should have been notified.

At this point it's a little late to cancel. You probably should have cancelled as soon as you decided to postpone the wedding. However, I think your guests will be a little confused and maybe unhappy as to why you are having the shower this weekend when your wedding is still so far away. I know I would not think highly of the situation if I were going to a shower when the wedding was still almost two years away.

Is there a way you can live stream it so we could all attend virtually?

But seriously, you need to take the food, beverages, and liquor up a notch if you are having people come that far for a shower for a wedding two years away now. I still applaud your decision to postpone the wedding.

I would say still have your shower because it is a little too late to cancel especially since you have guest coming in from out of town.

You shouldn't include people for the shower that arent coming to the wedding. Since you said you are cutting numbers down - i wouldnt have those people buy me a shower gift.

Also you shouldnt use shower gifts until after the wedding. If the wedding doesn't happen you should give them back.

You should have canceled a while ago - at this point call the guests and let them know that you are still having a lunchon but the wedding is postponed so please no gifts
