Plus size or full figured brides, let's see those gowns!

Desiree, on February 8, 2013 at 7:54 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 70

I'm a street size 18-22 depending on day/designer. LOL I am SOOOOO nervous about dress shopping. I am in love with Maggie Sottero and really like Allure and Essence of Australia dresses, too. But I'm open to anything that will be ultra flattering. So, lovely brides and brides to be ... show me what you've got! Also, I'm in NH, so if anyone has suggestions for great places to go, let me know! Thanks!

I'm a 14/16. My sister in law (MOH) went with me and thought it would be hillarious to make me try on the ugliest dresses she could find. We went to DB. When she found this one I didn't even WANT to try it on because I didn't like the way it looked in the bag... it was nothing at all what I wanted. But when I put it on... it was gorgeous! Just DON'T pay attention to the size, it won't match what you think it should be. My dress is a size 20.

I have my appt at DB next wk. I stopped by another store to check out a dress ive been looking for but they didnt have it in stock. tried on a couple "like" it. She asked my pants size which right now after baby (ive lost nothing) im like a 22 OMG they should ask by my boob size. IDK what im gonna do next wk but the dresses they had me try on where big below but WAY too small uptop

Keel in mind they base size on biggest area, which for me are my boobs. Based on waist I am a 12, but I have to order a 16 to fit these suckers and then just have it taken in. My advice (I went 2 months after having my baby), DON'T look at the size. Focus on each dress and how you feel wether it says 1 or 20. Some heavier girls like halters and one shoulders because its a little more distracting from the lower end. But just be ready and willing to try a little of everything. I had my heart set on a-line to hide my tummy and ell in love with a fit and flare because of the way i felt and looked in it. Just be open and positive.

This is the front of my dress. It's an Essence of Austrailia in a size 22. It was $1700.

And the back.. Girl you will look great in your dress, any dress you put on. I was lucky to have a wonderful bridal consultant who made me feel so comfortable. Goodluck on your search.

By the way, this dress was a size 16 and too small so the dress actually will fall at my hips... The back wont be so high up.

@Melissa H... I got the same dress!!!! I also had the same experience, I was scared to show my family, but fell in love with it!

Don't be scared try on form fitting, or something you THINK you won't like, because you really don't know with wedding gowns until they are on!

I am a Maggie Bride (Shania) and I wear a 14/16 and my dress is an 18. I love my dress and at first it bothered me when I was told the size but seeing it on, the number didn't matter.

    Gorgeous Ladies! Rock those curves!

I am part of that "iffy" population. The plus sizes are too big for me in regular clothes sizes and in wedding gowns. However, "the girls" need some room. So, I tried on the plus at AA and wound up with a size 18.

I got my dress at a bridal show. I am also a 14/16 street size and my dress is a size 20 I love my dress but it makes me sick to think that's what size I will be wearing on my wedding day. so I ended up my seamstress cover up the size of it so I don't have to think about it.

Alfred Angelo 2251. I don't want to show you a picture of me in my gown (I'm not posting photos til after FH sees me), but I can tell you that this gown does absolutely nothing for the very skinny model. I generally wear a 16 or 18. I tried on the dress in an 18, and loved it, but we ordered a size bigger to fit in the chest a little better. We knew alterations would have to be done anyway because my waist is 10" smaller than my hips, and 6"-8" smaller than my bust, depending on the undergarment.

I can honestly say I didn't like the dress in the picture, but when I tried it on I suddenly looked cute and curvy...and the waist band really cinches in at just the right place!! (We DID order a lace panel so we can make the dress a bit more modest...the neckline is a bit low for girls with a full bust.

@Steph...I almost bought that dress, but they didn't have it at the store for me to try on so I looked elsewhere. I love it!!

I'm a street size 18, the dress is either a 22 or 24, don't remember the exact size, just remember they charged me an extra $150 because it was plus size.

Try Casablanca Bridal. I just bought my dress from them yesterday! I'm a street size 18-22 depending on designer and I am SO in love with the dress.
