Plus size or full figured brides, let's see those gowns!

I'm a street size 18-22 depending on day/designer. LOL I am SOOOOO nervous about dress shopping. I am in love with Maggie Sottero and really like Allure and Essence of Australia dresses, too. But I'm open to anything that will be ultra flattering. So, lovely brides and brides to be ... show me what...

Also, I'm in NH, so if anyone has suggestions for great places to go, let me know! Thanks!

Woo I am late on this thread! Hahaha

I am also curvy, and loving it, I bought my dress at David's Bridal and am currently fighting the urge to walk around in it constantly. Smiley smile I've attached some pics, my best advice is to keep your dress shopping party small, and know your body type!

If you have an hourglass figure but not much booty, like myself, then definitely consider a dropped waist gown. If you have an hourglass figure then get a mermaid and flaunt those curves!! If your body type is a bit more rectangular then I suggest A line or ball gown, but you can also get a mermaid or modified mermaid with a corset back and it will give you curves you didn't know you had. Hope this is helpful!!!!!!

I found one I absolutely loved but way out of my budget. I am in the same boat where I feel like the size is so much bigger than what I normally wear so please don't look at the size... it's just a number. Try on all different types to see what you like because the one I fell in love with was one I personally would have never picked out for myself, but the consultant picked it and I tried in on just becauase and I LOVE it so it is my duty to find an similar one to it and again... try on everything... lace, ball gown, pick ups, aline, becuase you never know what you like and don't like unless you try it on... Smiley smile

    - to all the ladies posting pics of themselves .... you all look fab!!!!

LOVE the dress pics, ladies -- and the advice. For me, I'd not at all worried about the number. Just worried that they won't have CHOICES in whatever number it ends up being! :-) I wish I could pull off a drop waist, but I don't think I can. I have some junk in the trunk and also a tummy I'm not so proud of. But then again, I'm not really proud of ANY of my body. LOL Fortunately, I AM pretty proportional. I think A-line will likely be my best bet. Keep the photos coming -- the more the merrier! You all look lovely!

Just remember, don't be afraid of something form fitting!! Curves can look GOOD in a fit n flare. This is my dress, Enzoani Edinburgh, but it will be in a plus size.

Lauren P.: I love love LOVE your dress! Especially the top.

This thread is making me feel so much better about dress shopping. It's one of the tasks that I'm dreading since I'm plus size. I swear I have nightmares about finding NOTHING that fits me and all our pictures look horrendous because I'm squeezed into a too small dress. I actually breathed a sigh of relief looking at all these posts. Thanks for sharing, ladies!

I am a size 16. My dress is a size 14 from DB, because my bottom is actually a size larger than my top. I was only trying this gown on for fun, but the instant I put it on, it was just....perfect. I was in love and didn't want to take it off, that's how I knew! My dream gown, the one I had really liked online, was only a so so...It was okay, but I knew it wasn't the gown.

@halloweenBride -- you look so great in it! And I love how it's got a unique flair!

@Mrs. Jackie -- I am SOOOOOOOO with you! Wish we could go together for moral support. I'm going for my initial dress "shopping" trip this weekend. Don't actually plan to buy. But I figure... if I HATE what i see, it'll be more motivation to drop the weight (again). If not, it'll be a relief. *sigh* I hate that my worrying has affected the whole wedding planning thing. Whether or not she'll feel beautiful is not a worry the bride should have to contend with. But I've been told I will -- NO MATTER WHAT -- feel like a princess that day. Let's hope! ANd you're very pretty. I'm sure you will be lOVELY in a gown!

Here's mine!! This one is a 24 but it's too big, i re-ordered it in a 22 but it's still a little big so i'll get it tailored. I'm normally a 16-18. And I got the darn thing for less than $300 because it was last season!! whoop whoop!! score!!! Wedding dress sizes can hurt your feelings but I agree with one of the other ladies, forget about what the number on the tag is. Focus on how it looks on you. Before you go to the salon call and see how varied their plus size options are. Make sure they have a bunch for you to try on. And you really never know how something is going to look until you try it on. So go for it!! I know you'll be awesome!

Ok Desiree...how'd the pre-shopping go? I hover between wanting to go pre-shopping to see where I'm at and still being completely terrified.

And yes, I wish we were closer to go shopping together for that moral support. But we have WW so that'll have to suffice for now. :-)
