Pandemic october wedding

I have a big issue, as same as most of 2020 brides. I'm getting married on October 31st. I already reserved the Venue and the church. I haven't reserved anything else. I had to hold up a bit of the whole planning due to the virus pandemic. I had an estimate of 200 guest but now I'm not so sure what to do. I don't want to put anybody at risk, although there haven't been any guidelines for October yet, I don't know how prudent is to continue with the wedding, there is a speculation by scientists that there will be a second wave for the end of the year because of the flu season mixed with Covid.

My venue said that they are followings CDC guidelines, and that my event is open and free to happen, but the thing is I can't wait until August or September to postpone because I have international guest who have to travel, etc. In addition, some of my guest (mostly closest friend) are not sure if they can come to Houston because all Visa offices are closed and they canceled there Visa appointment.
This religous ceremony is really important for both my husband and I, and we have our thoughts about postponing the religious ceremony for another year. He suggests we do the religious ceremony and we can have our reception later.
This is so hard for me, because it was really challenging to come up with a date that most of our family could come (yes, more than 120 are family, we have big family trees)
I really need an advice or any comment. Thank you

Honestly, if you have international guests you want to come, I’d postpone until 2021. ☹️ I’ve heard European borders are closed until fall and I think many guests will be too concerned to travel.

Even a US wedding with 200 guests in the fall 2020 might be a problem. Love a Halloween wedding! Can you postpone until 2021???

Im getting married on the same day and like you have got my venue and dress and everything so FH and I have backup plans. With the international guest(s) they might not be able to due to whats going on. Like PP has asked is it possible to reschedule it? You hang in there! It's gonna be okay!!

    Hi Justine,

I'm so sorry you're going through this! It's a very stressful time for wedding planning, for sure. I agree with the PP; your international guests create an extra level of challenges.

If the religious ceremony is the most important part, then I think moving forward with that piece this year as planned could be a good solution. Having a larger wedding/reception later is a great option. There are several ongoing discussions on the subject of having two events (ceremony now, reception later OR elopement now, full wedding later). Check these out:

    Covid-19: Marriage now, wedding later?

Covid19 Brides still getting married on original date?

Small ceremony now, big wedding later

Etiquette in the time of coronavirus?

I'm Eloping because of Covid-19.. can i still do all of the traditional events?

Plus, here's a couple of other discussions with October brides:

I hope you can make a decision that feels right for YOU! Smiley heart

Hi! I'm so glad that I looked for this very same topic after mulling it over for months. My wedding is scheduled for 11/28/2020 but we finally made the decision to move the reception to next April so that our families abroad and my bridesmaid in England can hopefully make it by then. However, we are still going to get married on the original weekend with a small group and have dinner. Now we just need to figure out where we can have a 10-15 minute ceremony and have dinner.
