NWR: FH/Husband snoring?

Josh (my FH) is just laying beside me snoring and he sounds exactly like a roaring lawnmower, he is so loud! I have to turn up the tv to be able to hear or turn it down when he quiets down, then turn it back up when he gets loud again, and honestly, I can't hear myself think. I have to sometimes...

I have to sometimes wake him up and say, "Honey, you're snoring..really LOUD".

Anyone else experience the same snoring problems as I do?

We have tried everything from the nose strips to the stuff you spray up your nose.

I work as a polysomnographic technologist.... pretty much I run and interpret diagnostic sleep studies for sleep disorders such as Sleep Apnea..

    questions to ask hubby:

    1. does he feel excessively tired during the day even if he got between 6-8hrs of sleep.

    2. does he wake up with dry mouth?

    3. does he wake up with headaches?

    4. is he over weight/ or has suddenly put on weight?

    5. if he opens his mouth wide, can u see clear size opening to his throat, or is there tongue tissue, throat tissue, or his uvula causing a blockage.

    6. does he easily fall asleep while (on normal day): watching t.v., reading a book, does he dose off if you are driving.

    7. does he have or recently been having memory problems?

If he can answer YES to 1 or more of these question, I'd suggest getting a referral from his primary doc and having a sleep study done to test for sleep apnea

Sleep Apnea is not discriminatory - I've seen young, old, tall, short, obese, and thin as twig all have sleep apnea.

    (con't)

Good luck, hope my tid bit of info helps you!

And dont panic, although sleep apnea is a serious issue and can lead to other health issue or make them worse, it is a VERY easily treatable disorder through the use of a CPAP machine.

If you have ANY questions on sleep or sleep apnea, feel free to e-mail me ********.**********@*****.***.

(was reading the previous post) If his primary doctor isnt a sleep specialist, I'd ask for a referral, especially if he answers any questions above with yes. The sleep specialist will be able to evaluate him further with a series of questions, measuring his neck size and BMI, and a few other things before ordering a sleep study.

every 1 in 3 people have sleep apnea.... and snoring is the first sign.

FH snores, he's been working night lately so it hasn't mattered, but he's back on normal people hours. Sometimes, if he's feeling generous, he'll wear the snore strips, which helps. He also has sleep apnea, but losing weight for him should help as well so says his dr.

Micachoo... If ur FH has sleep apnea (and is being treated for it w/ a cpap) he'll definitely find it easier to loose weight, which, over time, may improve his sleep apnea.

FH was diagnosed with sleep apnea before I met him so he has always had his CPAP machine, which actually makes a nice white noise for sleeping. Unless the seal on it is loose. According to his friends, I am really lucky because apparently his snoring was the stuff of legends, but I have only heard a bit if he doses on the couch.

He is so attached to his CPAP that before I met him his apartment caught on fire. When his roommate woke him, the only thing he saved was his CPAP. Although pumping all that air into him all night has some unpleasant side effects - it's gotta come out somewhere.

We both snore but usually i go to bed first so it doesnt bother me. however one time when we were younger we were sleeping across the room and i could still hear him. i think mine might at least be in part because i have asthma but not sure. the dog stores really loud though.it gets so bad we have to yell at him and wake him up.

We BOTH snore when we have allergies or are sick. There are times when I cant go to bed because he, the dog and two cats will ALL be snoring and I'm awake like wtf is this?

Nose strips and vix vapor rub usually work find for me. If I just nudge FH until he wakes he will usually stop. It tends to happen when he has moved off his pillar so his neck is at a weird angle. I usually like, shove him until he wakes up. Then say "baby you sound like you cant breath" then stuff a pillow under his head. It tends to help lol. Otherwise he feels bad and theres nothing he can really do about it since he's asleep lol

FH snores and it drives me nuts. I always try to get him to roll over on his side, but sometimes he is impossible to move. I can't sleep if I stay with him unless I fall asleep first or listen to my iPod. And it probably sounds terrible, but sometimes I'm glad I can come home to my nice, quiet house if I need a good night's sleep. Well, until we move in together.

Nancy, my mom swears by breathe right strips. (Or I should say my dad, as she snores). FH snores sometimes and if I wake up I cannot get pack to sleep. I haven't bought them yet but have been meaning to for a while.

Mr. S snores but me noticing it depends on how tired I am. She he wakes me up, I can usually nudge him and tell him to roll over to his left side. That usually does the trick...until he rolls back over...

He does make me laugh because when I ask him to roll over because he is snoring, he is half asleep and responds with, "no I'm not, you are"

I deal with it a lot and right now its extremely hard because my fh and I are both working days. he use to work swing shift which was nice and we would end up having the same days off. i usually poke him till he wakes up or just sit on here till i get tired enough to tune him out to fall asleep

My DH barely ever snores, thank goodness, if he did we would probably have to sleep in seperate rooms as I am such a light sleeper, in the odd time that he does start snoring I just give hima shove and tell him to roll over. DH does however has issues with sleep walking/talking, I will wake up to him freaking out saying a spider was on my head or he will be holding the ceiling up (but not really) because it is going to fall on me

I just smother Breyne with a pillow til he wakes up...

    Kidding...

We don't live together, but when we've gone on trips together he hasn't snored that much. My dad is an outrageous snorer though and my mom has used ear plugs for 25 years....I guess you just get used to it if it's not a medical condition?

    Two things:

    1) TV Headphones - I love them as they help block out hubby's snoring when it's bad. He is also hard of hearing thanks to flying jet planes when he was younger so he uses the headphones if we are both watching so he can have it as loud as he needs to hear it without busting my ear drums LOL!

    2) I try to go to sleep before he does if I'm really tired. I usually don't hear him if I am sleeping well.

Most of the time his snoring is not that loud but on a few occasions (like now when he has a head cold) it's pretty bad if he lies on his back, not so bad on his side. I also nudge him if it's really loud which causes him to wake for a moment then when he goes back to sleep his snoring is quieter for a while.

My FH snores AND grinds his teeth. I have to wear ear plugs at night so that I can sleep. He was given a mouth guard when he was a kid but he broke it within the first week. He's started wearing one of the mouth guards that you boil recently. It's actually working really well for the grinding. The downside is he can't sleep with his mouth fully closed so he snores more. LOL
