NWR: FH/Husband snoring?

Nancy, on February 22, 2013 at 1:34 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 42

Josh (my FH) is just laying beside me snoring and he sounds exactly like a roaring lawnmower, he is so loud! I have to turn up the tv to be able to hear or turn it down when he quiets down, then turn it back up when he gets loud again, and honestly, I can't hear myself think.

I have to sometimes wake him up and say, "Honey, you're snoring..really LOUD".

Anyone else experience the same snoring problems as I do?

We have tried everything from the nose strips to the stuff you spray up your nose.

He may have sleep apnea, in which case, a dr will need to treat him! My FH only snores when he is sick and his sinuses are stuffed up.

@Amy, he is on his side, I usually poke at him until he wakes up, long enough to where he will hush for a while, but then lawnmower comes back Smiley sad

...He has already been to the doctor for it and said they don't think he has sleep apnea, just really bad snoring.

I do what Amy does and just roll H over until he's quiet. He usually wakes up for a second, I tell him he's snoring, he apologizes profusely, kisses me on the forehead and goes right back to sleep. He's seriously the most polite person I've ever met, even in his sleep. lol.

Thankfully he only snores if he's congested or if he's had too many cigars and whiskey shots the night before, and those things don't happen too often. Smiley smile

Forgive the tastelessness of this, but I have to share it

I either push FH or I hit him hard and yell at him... it gets annoying!

have you tried those nose strips things? I guess they are supposed to help with snoring!

My H snores pretty often. Some nights are worse than others. He even snores on his stomach! How is that even possible?

Anyways, he actually does have a minor sleep condition. He's never slept well his whole life and he does stop breathing in his sleep, but it isn't severe enough for them to treat it. I figure since he did sleep studies in high school (when they were trying to find out what was going on with him) and they deemed it not dangerous, I probably shouldn't worry.

You may want to talk with a sleep lab, but it probably is just that he snores a lot.

Oh wow, people are fast responding to this! Good thing he's talked to his doctor. I heard about a woman that sewed a pocket in the back of her husband's pajamas and put a tennis ball in when they went to bed so he wouldn't lay on his back. I don't know if it's true or not (I think probably not) but it might work!

@Crystal, my FH is the same way. So you can imagine if he is so loud upstairs in the bedroom, you can hear him over the TV compared to him laying beside me.

He snores whether it is on his stomach, side, back..lol..I feel bad for waking him up though to get some snore relief for myself

It's good he doesn't have sleep apnea but maybe he needs his adnoids checked. My daughter used to snore like a man until she had her adnoids taken out. Also the breathe right strips do help.

I'll probably get him to go to CVS or somewhere and get those strips. It would be really helpful because right now, I use ear-plugs when I go to bed at night. He bought me some hot pink ones for my birthday Smiley winking

And Leslie, I know right! I seriously laughed so hard, it woke up Josh. Oops.

Mine was diagnosised with Sleep apenia (sp?) so he is better most of the time. But our dog snores and has puppy gas while sleeping. Nothing worse than puppy gas.

    I double the adnoids check.

@Jen - wow, I can't believe how hard I laughed at that lol!

Matt only snores when he's super tired or getting sick, but I just poke him and tell him he's snoring too loud so he'll roll over and go back to sleep.

I'm with Amy on this, I also have a spare room so I can sleep, I keep clean sheets on that bed and blankets and a fan in there so all I have to do is walk across the hall. I also bring the cat for warmth

I'm with Amy on this as well! I just push him till he rolls over or turns his head. He never wakes up or remembers so I figure I'm not bothering his rest anyway.

DH snores. Some nights its worse than others, but usually it is only a problem if he falls asleep before me. Sometimes he'll wake me up in the middle of the night, or I'll just wake up and won't be able to get back asleep because he's snoring. I just give him a big ol shove, tell him to stop snoring (like he can control it lol) and then he'll change positions and hopefully stop. I never feel bad about waking him up because he falls back asleep in like .2 seconds.

Sometimes it is so bad though that I will grab my pillow and leave to go sleep on the couch. When he is sick and congested and snoring non stop for many nights in the row with me on the couch, I will kick him out to the couch Smiley tongue

We've tried all the different snore remedy stuff. Nothing has really seemed to help.

Robin (and anyone else), if your FH stops breathing -- it is dangerous. He should be tested at a sleep clinic (they'll probably keep him overnight).

Sleep apnea can raise blood pressure and cause a stroke or heart attack.

DH also snored loudly, then would stop breathing for 30-45 seconds, and then gasp for air. It was worse if he was very tired or had a few drinks. He got a c-pac machine (looks like a cross between Darth Vader and Silence of the Lambs, LOL). But, it does help.

Usually sleep apnea happens with middle-aged, heavy-set men with thick necks.
