I'm going to call the former friend 'Daisy' so you can keep up. Me and Daisy have been friends for 6 years. She recently reunited with a previous lover and they started dating. She randomly announced that they were getting married only after dating for literally 6 weeks. She asked me to be her maid of honor. I gladly accepted the honor and because they planned to get married in December (she announced it in August) I immediately started planning her Bridal shower! Her guest list went from 20 to 85 people. I ordered a catering company, tables and chairs rental, paid for floral arrangements for the centerpieces, hired a photographer and bought all the champagne and decoration. In October she called me asking if I could pick her up she was stranded. I went to get her and while waiting at the light, I saw a man in a suit and a woman in a long flowy white gown crossing the street. They went to the courthouse to get married! So they get in the car, continued in comment section

It happened in November. I shared bits and pieces of the story on a post or two but never full blown said the entire thing. I was at work wrecking my brains about the entire situation again and had to vent about it (FH hates hearing about it). Everyone keeps telling me to let it go, but like seriously how could i?! It seems like a crazy lifetime movie but nope it actually happened and I still can't believe it! I think I'm hurt more than pissed because I have always helped her out. I have been done shady before but not this damn shady!

I'm sorry but getting married before your "wedding" and not telling anyone is sneaky and greedy IMO. If it's just for the "marriage" then why not call the "wedding" a vow renewal or something...especially when it's months/years later.

IDK I guess to me getting married and not telling anyone and still expecting people to treat the "wedding" as a "wedding" is rude and selfish.

I'm not caught up on the comments bc I haven't had my coffee and I'm salty AF, but I would take that cunt to small claims court.

Honestly? I'd take her to small claims court for the money you are out.

Thats crazy but to be honest it was not your place to judge their decisions as her friend you should have accepted it then to not put bridal shower on her stuff but to make it for the couple prob made her mad. I still feel there is no reason to cut off communication she should have told you dont worry about it and she was done with you what she did was very disrespectful im sorry you wasted all that money for nothing i would take her to court over that

@Phil once you are married, you are no longer a bride or groom. You can have a vow renewal, etc., but you cannot have a bridal shower or a wedding. That ship has passed.

As far as this story. It is not adding up. I am having a hard time believing that no one showed up. You never should have kept throwing the shower knowing that they were already married. Even changing the name to a 'Celebration of Marriage' just made the entire situation worse. I think both parties are to blame here. She is a horrible person for trying to scam her guests into gifts, but you never should have agreed to anything knowing she was already married.

Ok I have to ask, has your friend always acted like this since you've known her? Or did she just go crazy when she got back with that guy?

Oh my fucking God. This is infuriating!!!

I'd be all over her Facebook and social media telling everyone that a) they're already married and b) what she did regarding the shower.

I am super confrontational so I'd make it my mission to get a hold of her and give her a piece of my mind.

She clearly has horrible etiquette beforehand but holy shit I can't believe someone would do this.

And then to completely disappear?? What a fucking pussy.

Ok so you were the one to send the invites and receive the RSVPs but not one person contacted you to ask why it was cancelled? None of the bm that helped with the cost reached out?

Daisey is a bitch no doubt, but unfortunately this is a lesson learned. You should've have told her you'd be cancelling the shower since they are already married. Though I completely disagree with Daisey deceiving her guest at the end of the day it wasn't your place to put "celebration of the couple" on the invites. If you felt that uncomfortable you should've stepped down. Perhaps she would've showed her true colors then and this could've been avoided.

What a crazy story!!! I would definitely rake her to small claims with a picture of the facebook message!! Yes, you held the party, but she cancelled it and allowed you to spend all this money!!

Who knows if you would have been able to get some money back if she gave you a heads up and cancelled prior to the day of!??! I say file the claim and see what happens!!

This is so weird. Reminds me of that one string of tweets from a few years ago that turned into a book and people had no clue if it was real or fake! How do they up and disappear?! Probably professional scammers or some shit.
