I'm going to call the former friend 'Daisy' so you can keep up. Me and Daisy have been friends for 6 years. She recently reunited with a previous lover and they started dating. She randomly announced that they were getting married only after dating for literally 6 weeks. She asked me to be her maid of honor. I gladly accepted the honor and because they planned to get married in December (she announced it in August) I immediately started planning her Bridal shower! Her guest list went from 20 to 85 people. I ordered a catering company, tables and chairs rental, paid for floral arrangements for the centerpieces, hired a photographer and bought all the champagne and decoration. In October she called me asking if I could pick her up she was stranded. I went to get her and while waiting at the light, I saw a man in a suit and a woman in a long flowy white gown crossing the street. They went to the courthouse to get married! So they get in the car, continued in comment section

I don't see how this could be a small claims court case, this was a gift to the bride, not a loan or a contract with contingencies ...Right?

What a mother fucking dirty cunt ass skank whore. I cant believe someone would do that to anyone. All she had to do was literally show up.

Sorry you were the victim in this situation. I hope you are able to find her and sue her for the costs.

I am so sorry this happened to you. Ask your accountant/tax preparer if you can take this as a loss on your income taxes.

Don't worry, what goes around comes around Smiley smile

@JessieJV if she didn't continue to communicate with me after I told her it was rude then I would have backed out. But we literally kept in touch. That's why I went ahead and did it. The last time we had talked was two days before and SHE called me asking if I needed anymore help to set up, if so she was going to send her brothers. I told her no, everything was handled, she said she was so excited and couldn't wait. Then BOOM! This shit happened.

@FutureMrsE No, not a loan or contract. I was doing it because I was her supposed to be her maid of honor.

I used to say "For $200 I know someone who could break her knees." But I don't do that any more. Because I'M KIDDING. Sometimes I wish it but still kidding.

What I do instead is send a wish to OG Nonna in heaven to put a malocchio on them Smiley smile

Jo, I agree. I'm just wondering how this girl got a hold of 60 guests to tell them it was cancelled. If I posted something was cancelled on social media, it would take my aunts weeks to realize it.

@K.M. most of her guest were bridesmaids, co workers and a couple family members and friends. I'm guessing way before, because not one single person showed up. Not one! I was expecting at least a few people to show and be clueless on not reading the FB post but she had to be telling folks at work prior to the event and family. It was a few bridesmaids that commented on the post questioning what happened but she never responded.

Re: court. What is your injury? If Daisy did not post on social media, and you had the shower, you would be out X dollars. Since Daisy did post on social media, you are out X dollars. You took on and controlled the expense of the shower voluntarily, and went forward with it after she married. You are in the same position as if the celebration happened and every one attended. Not saying that is a definitive factor, but it will be any judge's first question. I could see if you cancelled it after she married and sued her then, but you changed the terms of the agreement voluntarily after she married. And this isn't a contract for goods or services, its more in the nature of a gift. If you want to go down that road, pay for a consultation with a civil attorney or call a civil litiagation clinic at a local law school.

So did they go through with the fake wedding? I assume you didn't go but if you had invited all those people then you must have contact info for them. Did you find out? Were there other BMs involved? Where are they in all of this?

Your shower sounds really nice. I'm so sorry this happened to you. But I just have so many questions.
