I'm going to call the former friend 'Daisy' so you can keep up. Me and Daisy have been friends for 6 years. She recently reunited with a previous lover and they started dating. She randomly announced that they were getting married only after dating for literally 6 weeks. She asked me to be her maid of honor. I gladly accepted the honor and because they planned to get married in December (she announced it in August) I immediately started planning her Bridal shower! Her guest list went from 20 to 85 people. I ordered a catering company, tables and chairs rental, paid for floral arrangements for the centerpieces, hired a photographer and bought all the champagne and decoration. In October she called me asking if I could pick her up she was stranded. I went to get her and while waiting at the light, I saw a man in a suit and a woman in a long flowy white gown crossing the street. They went to the courthouse to get married! So they get in the car, continued in comment section

Oh damn this sucks so bad. I'd be livid. I agree with others, SPREAD HER BUSINESS. Let everyone know what happened! You have proof anyways!

You may not win a court battle but at least smear her to death.

If this story is true, that is totally fucked up. What a bitch - I mean, who does that? I would be so pissed I probably would have cried rage tears.

OP, you wrote, "So I went ahead and decided to go with the shower but nothing said Bridal Shower, I wasn't going to entertain it that far and I changed the invitations from bridal shower to Celebration for the couple! Out of the 85 people who I sent the invitations to 60 RSVP'd." So, it should be some consolation that 85 people know that this wasn't a bridal shower, but a celebration of the couple. I'd be able to figure out what that meant. Nobody holds a genuine bridal shower and calls it a Celebration of the Couple. This is probably why she decided to burn you. He had already made it clear that he didn't care if people didn't like the fact that they were already married, and the two of them are obviously all about the gifts and pageantry. You threatened their scheme. She had no intention of allowing you to interact with 85 potential wedding guests...too risky.

I have to say, for someone who did not like what she was doing, you certainly went all out for this shower. Hiring a photographer? Professionally designed centerpieces? Tables and chairs? You mentioned another BM, so I assume the cost of this non-event was also subsidized by the BMs. How do they feel about losing their money?

I'm also curious as to how everyone knew about this cancellation but you. I might have missed it, but didn't you say that the husband posted a message on FB announcing that this was cancelled? Did he post it on the day of the shower or several days before? It's almost unthinkable that not a single person missed the update.

I would have told the grandmother what was going on (that would have gotten the ball rolling). I might even take the guest list and contact some of those guests and ask, "Where were you? Where was everyone? I'm so confused and Daisy has disappeared." Somebody will talk -- they always do. As for me, I'd have no problem telling this story on social media. I'd make sure I was very factual and didn't editorialize, but I have no patience for anyone ripping me off and publicly humiliating me -- and leaving you sitting alone at that shower had to be humiliating.

@Centerpiece I talked to the grandmother about it. She said it was a shame but never really said anything else. She offered to tell her I was looking for her but what good would that be? I'm pretty sure she KNOW! My best friend (Jessica in the story) her husband is a freelance photographer. I hired him for the event which really wasn't a lot of money. The bridesmaids split the cost of the cupcakes and catering bill. Out of 10 of is. I reached out to the bridesmaid I know pretty well and she ignored my calls, text and didn't answer the door. I was pissed about the money but I offered to host it mainly because I thought being her maid of honor i had to. But never thought the bitch would burn me!!! Daisy posted it on Facebook, I'm not friends with her husband on social media. I didn't know him that well. I'm sure she had to be telling folks ahead of time and then posted that. Idk but I'm sure I will see her again and her ass is definitely grass!

Holy effing shit!! I am pissed just reading this!!! Did she block you on facebook? Is that why you couldn't find her? I'd be so livid and petty right now.

Time to make some calls and apologize to the guests for her cancelling last min and say "She's already married"

Court court ass kicking and court! ETA: just saw that she did block you. How petty!!!! Burn the bitch! Spread her marriage like wildfire. I'm not petty, but damn if this wouldn't make me see red.

Okay so something is definitely up for the bridesmaid you do know to be a bitch too. Ignoring your calls? Why? She probably knew the scheme too!

I bet you Daisy was talking shit about you. Playing the victim or made some sort of drama up to have everyone ignore you. Even grandma. God I strongly dislike people like that.

That's the worst thing I've ever heard. Wow!!! She is a horrible selfish person. Please do not ever let her back in your life. If I were you I'd definitely be telling everyone she's already married. Maybe that's petty but I would be so angry. I don't think I would have assumed they were married by rewording of the shower invite. Unless someone is in the process of planning a wedding, like we all are, I think that stuff slips. I don't read the fine print of invitations. Just look at date and time.

Im getting legally married before my wedding ceremony and only my MOH knows. She did the same thing. The ceremony is really for your family and friends but the marriage is for you and FH. For many reasons couples get married legally in a courthouse before the ceremony. I would be pissed if you changed my shower invitations to a 'Celebration' because of your own feelings. When you told her you wouldnt do a bridal shower for someone already married, you should have cancelled it rather than changing the invitations. There is no appreciation in disingenuous actions.

You both should have cancelled it
