Nautical Wedding Theme- Attire and color Scheme

Niki, on December 1, 2010 at 8:00 PM Posted in Planning 0 21

Hi Everyone,

I am planning a nautical wedding theme that is taking place in june at a resort with a harbor on an island. I am having navy and crisp white as my main colors but am looking for another accent color, I definitely do not want to go with RED. My ceremony is outdoor and I am having the groomsmen wear navy blazers with Khakis, but I am unsure about my bridesmaid. I am afraid that if there dresses are navy that it will be too much navy in the photos.

What do you think? Are there any color schemes or dress colors you think would be nice? (I am also not into the the floral summer dresses idea). Another shade of blue? or is the navy alright, if I accent it with colors in my flowers?

Looking for advice

You could do a light blue or silver as an accent...We did a wedding that was navy blue, white and a light blue and it was really pretty!!

    You could also use yellow.

Aqua might work, depending on exact shades. Green can also go well. It just has to coordinate with the navy. I'd probably go with a little more vibrant color since it's a summer wedding.

I am doing Navy and White, too! It will be outdoors with lots of grass and trees (so I didn't want to pick a green that would contrast too much with the natural surroundings). The reception spot overlooks the Chesapeake Bay in Annapolis, MD.

I debated with a 3rd/accent color and I think I'm going to use khacki- like raffia (around the vases) and rope. Another reason we aren't having a 3rd "pop" of color is because we are not having a bridal party, so there were no dresses to have to coordinate with. Good luck!

I personally like yellow, orange and pink. I those all look really sharp! If I had to choose I might do orange. I am sure no matter what you pick it will look fantastic, but I agree with @sailing you do need that color to make it "pop"

@ Sailing Nurse MD - Is that the Philip Merrill? I grew up in Annapolis, you can see my parents' house from the Philip Merrill center. I of course love nautical themed weddings as I'm an avid sailboat racer myself. Smiley smile

If they are wearing khaki pants- why not use khaki was the accent color?

I'm doing a nautical-ish theme too! Taking place aboard a yatch in San Francisco Smiley smile

My colors are navy blue, gold/champagne, and white Smiley smile I was going to choose yellow, since we were going to have a brunch kinda timeline; then, decided to move it to an evening, thus the change to gold-ish. Everything is mainly navy and white tho. BMs are wearing navy dresses. Mine is ivory with a navy sash and shoes.

If you want it to feel "preppy", I definetly recommend a yellow, apple green or hot pink accent. If you want more tropical, go with oranges, fuscias, corals, and turquoise Smiley smile

@MattP PHoto- It's at a state park in Queen Anne county- called Matapeake Beach and Clubhouse. It's a great spot!

@MrsCarmen- OMG! I love that anchor broach/charm on the bouquet!

@MattPhoto- small world! We looked at a lot of venues (including the land where Annapolis Sailing School is, Chesapeake Beach Bay Club, Herrington on the Bay, Silver Swan, etc.....) by far, this was the best for character and a clean slate for a casual, waterfront reception!

You can never get too much navy!!! Have you thought of a pretty yellow as an accent color? I lvoe the photos with the orange above, that looks awesome. I also really like another shade of blue. I am sure whatever you choose it will be beautiful!
