I love children. I ADORE CHILDREN.

But if you have children that you do not discipline, DON'T BRING THEM AROUND ME!!

FH and I are having a relatively child free wedding (no children outside of the wedding party)

Its a night wedding. Its formal. Find a babysitter. Have a drink. Get a hotel room and practice making the next baby!!

Our wedding is not YOUR family reunion. Nor should I be responsible for stopping your child from knocking over the cake.

I went to a wedding and saw a child lift up the brides dress and try to play hide and seek under it during the first dance!!

BTW this is not directed toward WW Brides who have children. I'm sure your babies are well behaved. FH has a cousin who does not discipline her children and even if it is clear they are not invited, would show up and throw them on the mercy of other people while she gets drunk.

Girl do chicken fried steak! It would go great with the theme of the food and would taste good with the potatoes...

Oh and you need tostones. And aioli sauce. Because you just do.

See I'm stuck because I have 2 different rices that I want to do, and can't decide Smiley sad

We were thinking arroz con gandules as well, but I have this ass kicking Caribbean pineapple shrimp fried rice too. Oh, decisions..

Omgggggg tostonessss i'd eat them all and wouldn't let anyone have any...bad idea. maybe i'll see if FMIL can make a couple for the girls getting ready...or maybe just me...LOL the habichuelas FMIL usually makes has white rice accompanying it because of the sauce it's in, so i'll be having 2 rices and i won't give one crap whatsoever, LOL.

i'd have liked to do some sort of grilled chicken (gosh or even pinchos!!!) but i think we're going to be outsourcing the main proteins (pernil and whatever the main protein on the southern side is...would rather not do fried chicken but it'd most likely be the cheapest option)

i'd love to do some caribbean pineapple anything but FH doesn't like sweet/savory. he looks down on my penchant for hawaiian pizza Smiley sad

TOSTONES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOL you're right, those could be bad.... Mmmmm now I want some. Great.

Well, chicken fried steak (have you had it before?) is pretty darn awesome and cheap to boot. Plus the gravy that comes with it..... damn, now I want that too. LOL

FYI your FH is crazy. Who doesn't do sweet/savory? Guess he's not a picadillo fan, huh?

I'll tell you this; I used to be a caterer, (an expensive one) and I go to an average of 3-5 cocktail hours a weekend (it'a a great gig!). No matter how tony the place, how expensive the bill, how sophisticated the guests, the PIB are always vaporized as soon as they hit the crowd. Everyone loves them and anyone who says they don't is lyin'.

I love sushi, I love caviar, but I loves me some PIB!!

I knowwww i'm half tempted to head over to FH's parents' house and beg for some. the worst part is that i know she'd make them if i begged her enough LOL

i've had chicken fried steak before and i like it, just not sure if everyone else would enjoy it as much as i do. plus it's gonna be outside and i guess chicken would be better to eat outdoors at a beach wedding...but still...sometimes i wish we were doing a bigger food budget so i could do something awesome like my sister's salt, pepper and coriander crusted seared tuna but there's no way we could maintain the correct temperature and i think both families would be scared to eat "raw" fish...*eyeroll* oh gosh or some freaking seared scallops *droooooool*

it's funny because i'm pickier than he is but he eats less things than i do. only eats certain types of fish in sushi (spicy tuna, smoked salmon, some whitefish) but hates seafood (shrimp, etc). he hates beans and canned corn but will eat corn on the cob....that sort of thing lol

Please forgive me for saying this, but I want FHs kids gone after the dinner. I have no problems with his ex wife picking them up around 7ish. Our reception is 5-9. His daughter is ok, can behave herself, but she's very clingy to Daddy and will insist on sitting with us at the sweetheart table. FH's son is a whole other issue. His mother refuses to give him his ADD meds and there's such a tremendous difference in his behavior when he's on them and when he's off of them. She doesn't give them to him on weekends and during the summer, and he has a hard time controlling himself. I'm not blaming his behavior as a character flaw at all. I understand it's a medical condition. But not being consistently medicated messes him up, and I just don't want any issues with him touching the cake and being out of control as he can be when not medicated.

I feel awful for saying this, but it's how I feel. I feel horrible for the kid that he's being controlled by his own brain chemistry - contd

And his mom refuses to do what's in his best interest because she's "embarrassed" by his condition (her own words).

Jen there's nothing wrong with that. If the kids have issues and could create a scene, then they don't new to be there. It's great that you have a plan to include them and then for them to leave without issue. Mine will be staying until they get tired and whiny, and then they will go home.

I feel for you. My kids have food allergies, but their dad thinks its somehow MY fault that HIS kids aren't "normal". So he tries to give them those foods when he sees them, thinking to "toughen them up", and instead they get really sick, and I have to deal with the fallout. When kids have medical conditions, whether ADHD or allergies, the key is consistency.

@jen is there a family friend who would be willing to look after FH's kids after the dinner? where are you having your reception; is there another room where you could designate the kids to go to? i'm having my wedding at a beach house, everything's outside and we've got a handful of teenagers that are in the "i'm more interested in this handheld game/this game on xbox than the world around me" phase so we'll be setting up a "gaming area" inside in one of the units for the teens to go when they start getting antsy.
