Keeping Up with the Jones
Dedicated September 2015

It seems like no one is coming to the wedding

Keeping Up with the Jones, on July 7, 2015 at 5:07 PM Posted in Planning 0 89

I sent out invites last week and while I've only gotten a few cards back so far, the number of people who have called or texted to say they aren't coming is overwhelming. I guess a verbal RSVP could always be changed later. But seriously, 3 out of 4 of my fiancees groomsmen RSVP'd No. Didn't say anything to him, just sent the card back. I feel that was very inconsiderate. A good chunk of his immediate family has also said they won't be coming. Out of 121 people who were invited, I'm thinking only 20 or so might make it. I understand we are 'inconveniencing' people by not having a wedding right in their backyard but come on! I guess I'm just bummed that he he only has one groomsmen now and our wedding will be quite pitiful. Not even family wants to show up.

Do you have more details of your wedding? Is it local? On a weekday? Weekend? That does seem pretty odd.

Did he not ask his GM before sending out invites? It certainly seems odd that they would respond no.

Whoa, what leads someone who is standing up in the wedding to RSVP no?! Why did they agree to be groomsmen? that's just cruel!

Where is your wedding, and where do most of your guests/bridal party live?

Did your FH ask them to be groomsmen prior, and they agreed? Because if so, that's really, really messed up.

The wedding is on a Saturday evening. The wedding is local for about 40 of our guests. My family is traveling 16 hours and I believe is family is between 5-8 hours away. We set RSVP as August 15thbut we are already getting some back. He said he talked to them when we set a date back in January.

The Groomsmen RSVP'd no...that is beyond bizarre. You wedding is two months away...had arrangements already been made for their suits or tuxes?

Are you sure the groomsmen weren't trying to be funny? That seems like a clueless/asshat way of behaving, but it's possible...

Are any of them Jewish? though your wedding isn't on a holiday exactly (my understanding) it's on a saturday between Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur. Since Yom Kippur is the holiest day, some may not be available due to wanting to prepare for the holiday, but even then most people I know would probably come to a wedding.

but that does seem like a lot of people -

I'm a little confused on the Groomsmen too- any idea how this came about? they were Groomsmen then changed their minds?

sorry for so many nos! I wonder why.

Yeah I really feel like the GM did that as a joke but boys being boys, probably didn't think to put "Just kidding!!!!". You should probably talk to them instead of assuming they actually are not coming because that deserves a huge WTF
