Is Las Vegas too tacky to get married at?

Sweetbella, on May 6, 2010 at 7:20 PM Posted in Planning 0 62

I am on a tight bugdet and my mom think I should get married in Las Vegas and have like 20 guests to 30. I only get 3k from my dad and I have a very low pay job unfortuntely. Let me know what you guys think. I don't have a house, I live in a apt in downtown and my parents don't have a house. Can't use reception in apts lol.

That what I was thinking BUT my FH is nervous because his parents are super religious. But I am going to remind him that we are on a budget and it is our wedding, not theirs.

Well if his parents are willing/able to pay for a church budget then more power to them. If not, then plan B. Do you live in or near vegas? I know a couple of folks who got married in vegas and do have some nice chapels. All of them aren't like what you see on the movies with Elvis officiating or the drive thru chapels. In fact, one of FH's brothers go married in Vegas but she was just telling me over the weekend the only thing she didn't like is she felt like they were so rushed.

Wow well i live in Washington state and my FH is not happy with vegas wedding lol. Because he wants to get married in his home state. I was like we don;t have much money and his parents are not helping at all. Let just say they are not supportive of our engagement. I am very old fashioned but I feel maybe Vegas is cheaper than have a wedding in Washington.

If you get married in Vegas, it doesn't have to be at one of those chapels like you see on TV. I was staying at the Flamingo and saw a really nice, small garden wedding, at/under a gazebo. Perfect setup for family and a small number of guests. They set up chairs on the lawn and make it look nice.

I lived in Vegas after college for awhile, and it's in the 50's/60's, although they had some snow this past winter! A bunch of my sorority sisters still live there. What if you just did a small ceremony with family only in Washington? You could do a BBQ reception for your family and friends? We chose a destination wedding to Punta Cana which is costing about 7k including our week stay and the wedding ceremony. You can come to PA and have it at our house. We have a big backyard Smiley smile

Reno,NV Lake Tahoe, NV also have wedding chapels for weddings and are closer to WA state. If you are on a tight budget, are you budgeting in the cost of flights for you and all your guests to fly down to Vegas?

Awww thanks Jenn, I don't think bbq would work in Feb lol. Ahhh I grew up going to Reno and Lake Tahoe when i lived in California. I am starting to feel that I rather marry in Washington, it is a beautiful state. I realized that I can't have my reception on navy base because it would cost me 1k for alcohol, rental for 4 hours, dance floor, foods and etc. I need to get a photographer, real flower just for me, decorations for reception, ceremony location, cake and I don't think all that includes 2k. I am so confused and I need to think fast for venues. I want a real wedding so bad and actually have foods at my wedding, but I feel I can only afford a wedding where I serve cake and cheap champagne :-(. I always wanted to elope but when I became WW bride on here and started planning, it made me wanted a real wedding ugh.

Oh I was wrong, foods are not included 1k, it will cost between extra 500 dollars to 1000 dollars sigh.... So no lunch or dinner at reception :-(

Where in WA. Maybe an outdoor wedding in a park or by a lake, campground. It is beautiful under the trees. Then use the money for a reception venue. Local vfw hall or veteran hall. Where do you work do they have an area large enough for you to use. Do any of your friends have access to a hall or can get you a discount?

Oh it will be freaking COLD in feb lol, so no outside wedding :-p. I am new in Washington unfortunately, well right now I am looking at my future sister in law church and it has hall for reception. I am hoping it will be cheap and that maybe I can afford to make snacks for reception or have dessert reception with cake and cupcakes. I am in Seattle. I wish about my work, it is a small company so no. Mom was thinking like buy different meats and breads and have guests make themselves a sandwich. I am just shocked that navy base is so expensive, when I thought it would be cheap considering my FH is in Navy.

I think Vegas is NOT tacky and really less stressful and fun.

    .

So it depends how many people that you want there at your reception. Maybe you want more people. Of course, if you will have a lot of out of towners, it would be nice to provide some sort of meal for them.

The church and hall sounds good. Usually not very expensive. The meats and bread idea sounds great and salad in bags at Costco with dressing would be nice too. Costco is great for saving money.

Time you wedding so you are serving more of a snack than a meal you cake-cup cakes.. It is surprising that the base cost so much money to rent. They are not very helpful. Vegas would be fine too but you would probably have more friends and family able to attend if you were close to home and it would be less expensive for you.The amount of money that you spend is not the important part..the important part is that you are both happy and end up as Mr. and Mrs. Spending countless amounts of money is not going to guarantee happiness. Just be happy.

Our entire wedding & honeymoon in Vegas, with 35 guests at the wedding, is costing us $7K. Reducing the guest list to ~20 would definitely cut a lot of costs there, as would staying somewhere cheaper than TI--and getting married in February, which is off-season & will be a LOT cheaper overall than May.

We're actually having our ceremony at Valley of Fire State Park outside of Vegas, but as ladylee says, not all the chapels are "Vegas-style." The hotels especially have some really classy ones, & offer packages at varying rates that might be a good deal for you--they'll include flowers and photos, for instance, & often a night in the honeymoon suite, plus you can get a reduced rate if your guests are all staying there, too.

The big question to me here, though, is do YOU want to get married in Vegas. Your FH already sounds like he doesn't like the idea, so if you're not particularly thrilled about it either, I would try to think of ways to cut costs for a local wedding instead.

Good ideas you guys :-) I would do friday BUT almost of my guests are out of town and my FH's most family members are 3 hours away, so I feel saturday is the best. Brunch reception sound good. Wow Cabell you sound like you will have a beautiful wedding, you better show it on here after you get married. I would love to get married in Vegas but my FH don't :-(. He think we should just elope then have a reception right after. I am just juggling with ideas right now. Between local wedding and Vegas wedding. It was humilating to ask my dad for 2500 more to have a wedding on the base and he said no. He is only giving me 3k and I can't save much unfortuntely, because I have bills and I have rent to pay especially with a low pay job. I can't wait to quit after marriage and become a full time college student again. My FH and I discussed last night that he can save to 1500 dollars when he goes to war this month, there is no way to have a wedding at 3k lol.

Lovely, I am planning to do a lot of DIY things like invitations, decorations and etc. I even rented a DIY bride book and wow so many cool ideas! Like make Time Capsule can with questions for my guests such as how many kids will we have? Will we have robots in our house? Offer us the best advice for a happy marriage. Or make pewcones for chairs in ceremony.
