I am on a tight bugdet and my mom think I should get married in Las Vegas and have like 20 guests to 30. I only get 3k from my dad and I have a very low pay job unfortuntely. Let me know what you guys think. I don't have a house, I live in a apt in downtown and my parents don't have a house. Can't...

How do you feel about eloping? You can definitely have a low-key brunch reception for relatively low cost--the big factor here is guest list. Have you worked on your guest list at all? How many people are you thinking?

Thanks for the nice words! I think it will be really beautiful, and I plan to have a LOT of photos. That time capsule idea is really cool--I kind of want to steal it, maybe for our post-wedding reception in Missouri that my mom is doing!

Meg I don't think it's tacky at all I think it's smart of you. I don't think it's fair for anyone who isn't helping you with wedding costs to put pressure on you to get married somewhere you aren't able to afford. Vegas weddings can be really really classy and beautiful. And on the flip side can be super fun and cute and whimsical. Just depends on what kind of look you want. I threw in some links I found for you. I didn't check prices though just ones I thought were pretty. Hope they help!

The Strat is one of the least expensive hotels on the Strip, fyi, so if you wanted to do a Vegas wedding on a budget (especially in February!), I would check them first. Excalibur, Circus Circus, the Sahara, and the Las Vegas Hilton are some other less expensive options (although the Hilton is not on the Strip proper).

And the Strat chapel in the clouds is beautiful! I really liked the chapel at Excalibur too though and it didn't look to spendy.

You could also suggest to your FH, if he wants a reception at home, that you can do the Vegas wedding and still have the Washington reception. And you have up to a year after the wedding proper to hold a reception, so that gives you more time to save!

(Our Missouri reception will be about four months after the wedding.)

I don't think a vegas wedding is tacky at all, now if you elope spur of the moment after a night of hard partying, then yeah I think that's tacky.

Loveee that time capsule idea! How awesome is that!?

And by the way, I think Vegas is awesome. If the cost wasn't breaking FMIL's heart, I'd be on my way to Vegas right now!

Las Vegas isn't tacky at all if you do it right. But, you do realize (and just common sense maybe) that you might end up spending more with a Vegas wedding because of travel accommodations than doing it in Washington state, right?

Yes Miya that what I came to the conclusion. I realized I will piss off his parents so much because they are so against the idea of las vegas. So I think Vegas is out of questions :-( I feel bad for wasting everyone time for answering me :-( I am sorry.

It FH doesnt want a vegas wedding you can do an in state wedding for cheaper. just got to know where to cut cost. Use something other than flower for center pieces, do a cup cake tower instead of a cake, do immediate family, and do alot of DIY things it can be done. My cousin did a their wedding for under 5000 with 100 guest

FMN: Most of us don't mind blathering about wedding stuff for extended periods, so don't worry about it. :-)

And there are definitely people here doing weddings for $2-3K! It can be done.

Vegas is not tacky....run off get hitched and have a great reception when you get home....February is a wonderful time in Vegas you could honeymoon at the North Rim of the Grand Canyon (easy drive). We have alot of out of State couples get married here in Phoenix then a honeymoon in Sedona Arizona. My husband and I got married in Lake Tahoe and had a reception at YES our apartment complex club house we had GREAT FOOOD fully catered by a profesional, and a fully loaded bar, so my guest left fat and happy : )

Where in Washington are you? You don't need to buy a wedding cake, as Shaunte points out--if you don't care about a fancy cake, you don't need one! We're doing various flavors of mini-cupcakes for our reception; for 12 dozen of them delivered to our hotel, it's $164 ($12/dozen plus a $20 delivery fee--tax is included in the price). That allows ~4 mini-cupcakes per guest, and works out to about $4.70 per guest to feed, which seems pretty reasonable compared to other people's pricing that I've seen.

If you're doing a cake-only reception, you probably want enough for guests to have 1.5 to 2 "servings" each, whatever a serving is. Cupcakes MAY be cheaper, but you should also price supermarket cakes and whatnot to see if that works out better (although I do think that cupcakes are easier to serve and eat, which is a plus).

Seattle, WA :-) I live right in downtown. I want to get cupcakes, I was also thinking make it yourself sandwiches at reception from Costco as well. I want to feed them foods because almost all of my guests are out of state, isnt it rude to just feed them cupcakes and champagne? Wow good price for cupcakes.
