I was almost 18 when we met, he was 18. We started dating when we were both 19, and I was 20 when he proposed, he was 2 days away from being 21.

@Amy S. ... nope, at least in my area, the average age of people getting married is probably about 21-23 years old.

No offense, but how can someone who can't support himself or take care of himself propose to support and take care of TWO people?

Seventeen does seem quite young, but to each his (or her) own, I guess.

In my state you can't get married at 17. And to move out you have to be emancipated. Just a little trick. Stay engaged a while. At 18-21 people do a lot of changing. Congrats though.

We met when I was 25 became engaged while I was 25 and will be married when I'm 26

    He's 24, was 23 when we met

My FH is a little bit older and he's gonna be the bread winner until I finish my masters and then he'll get the chance to be a dad and relax and I'll be the money... that's the plan anyway. we definitely have the funds to start our family well we're as ready as you can be I guess apparently it's impossible to be fully prepared but I think we're off to a good start <3

We met at 16 and he proposed when I was 18 on his 19th birthday

and in response to Sandy's comment that is a very judgmental statement by saying that just because a couple is young they can't take care of themselves. When I got engaged he had a full time job making nearly $2000 a month and I made about $800 a month and our bills were only about $800. We were more then able to care for ourselves and each other.

Kelsy, 5 years isn't that big of an age difference, especially as you get older! I know so many couples who are at least 5 years apart. I'm just concerned for this poster because this is such an important decision and I hope she considers everything and makes a smart decision (which is to wait at least 3 years before putting marriage on the table at her age).

Yep Megan. I make double what the fiancé does and we have 3 car payments. All he has to work for is 2 of them and my ring I can support the house alone. (He'd have to get rid of the truck) but his money's just extra play money Smiley smile

Right now he's playing with his new car... When he's done with that it'll be our play money!

    Ha - Laine - I am old. Don't worry.

My Fiance and I have been together for 7 yrs. And by April at our wedding, it will be 8 yrs.

We met when I was 31 and he was 38. I am now 38 and he is 45. We will both be these ages in April.
