how much is your wedding cake?

mdyblue5, on June 19, 2011 at 12:37 AM Posted in Planning 0 86

If you can tell me, how much was or will be your wedding cake? we'll be having around 140 guests. i've looked into two bakeries and one quoted me $**** depending on design.

not sure if this is average or way too high. this bakery is highly recommended by others.

One of my FH's best friends mothers is a cake decorator. From what I understand we will pay for all supplies, as well as a small fee for her time.

I think I am paying too much too ... for a 3 -tiered cake (only 1 real layer of red velvet and 2 fake styrofoam layers) and a full size black forrest sheet cake cost me $800. They came highly recommended though and the cake was an important detail for both of us so we bit the bullet.

Costs increase with various flavors, larger sizes and detail in the design- not to mention regional price differences.

Cakes AVERAGE $4/person. However, if you're adding fillings, fondant, and intricate decor- that price will go up significantly.

After reading everyone's posts about the cost of wedding cakes, I'm thinking that I'm glad that mine is included with my venue. I'm sure they charge extra for special requests though. I'm going to have a red velvet cake with cream cheese icing.

Ours is $324 for a four tiered square cake, pink champagne flavor with mixed berry filling. It will have smooth whipped cream frosting, hand painted scroll work and a ribbon at the bottom of each layer. It will serve about 100. I'm in Phoenix.

Since i'm making and decorating my own cupcakes, i'm going to be paying about $153. that includes the pans AND the cupcake stand. (: i'm making 75 cupcakes. i might decide to make a small cake for the top, for me and my groom, but for now, it's cupcakes all the way lol.

Ours was $635, which I thought was a great bargain for the amount of detail we are requiring. We are going to have a groom's cheesecake that will be decorated like a grave yard and have zombies coming out of it, then 50 cupcakes that zombies will be crawling over, and finally a two tiered fondant covered cake that will have FH and I with chainsaws fighting zombies. Smiley smile

Three tier cake hexagon shaped with red ribbon to feed 125 people. Total cost: $530. Because this bakery has sentimental meaning to FH and I, we were willing to pay the money and not shop around for something cheaper.

We are doing a small cake and then cupcakes..It will come to about 150 I believe..this is just one area where we didn't want to splurge. If you are spending a lot make sure to put it like in the middle somehow, not a in a corner. In my experience not too many people pay attention or walk over to the cake cutting even if it's announced.

I'll have about 120 guests at the maximum... I'm getting a small 2-tier cake for FH & I to cut & then we got cupcakes for everyone else!! It's SOO much cheaper that way! Have you looked into maybe having cupcakes for the guests instead?
