how much is your wedding cake?

if you can tell me, how much was or will be your wedding cake? we'll be having around 140 guests. i've looked into two bakeries and one quoted me $1100-1500 depending on design. not sure if this is average or way too high. this bakery is highly recommended by others.

I have gotten quotes on 3 tier 3 flavor, buttercream cakes that ranged from $360 to $950. I am pretty sure we will end up somewhere in the middle.

I got quoted $350-$400 (no more than $400) for a cake that would feed 170 people, it was gonna be red velvet with cream cheese icing and 3-4 tiers. I gotta get another quote since we cut our guest list, it can only be cheaper now though lol.

Here in Texas a quality bakery charges anywhere from 2.50 to 6 dollars per slice. For your every day, average cake, you can expect to pay a lot less. We're paying 1.90 per slice, and we ordered ours from an upscale grocery store. We don't want anything extraordinary, though

I think I was quoted 100$. Haven't ordered it yet. I'm just getting one from the grocery store. Their cake is yummy and it doesnt' need to be fancy.

I got mine price quoted at $350 for one of them and the other one (has more work needed to be done) was at $400. They both were price quoted with having 4 tiers and enough to feed 100 guests. (I'm not ordering both, just haven't decided which one I want to use yet)

$**** sounds pretty high to me, but then again you didnt post a picture of your cake. For all we know, the cake you want is crazy and has a bunch of details and what not... The more work/details the cake is = the higher the price. Also, depends on what you are wanting them to use and such. For example - buttercream frosting is cheaper than fondant.

We are getting two cakes technically. We are going to have a three tiered yellow cake with strawberry preserve filling and buttercream frosting. The decorations will be fondant mums, pumpkins, and leaves. We had two options: 1. Order a cake that feeds 92 and it is $2.50 a slice or order a cake that serves 130 and it is $3.50 a slice. The bakery charges extra once it goes over 100 servings and the difference between 92 and 130 was actually pretty expensive so this is what we are doing. We ordered the 92 serving cake and then we ordered a non-decorated sheet cake in the flavor of our cake that will just be taken in back and sliced so guests don't even know they aren't eating "the wedding cake". It was a lot cheaper!!

Thanks everyone for the comments. It sure helps me out. Well first of all, I live in southern California and prices can be high especially when it comes to weddings. Cost per slice starts $3 up to $10.

I haven't decided the design yet, but definitely I want it to be simple.

Buttercream is a lot less expensive. I'd keep shopping around, but that's just me. I don't see the reason in spending so much on cake. Ours is $400 with delivery for 190 people. 4 Chocolate tiers, 2 red velvet tiers, and 1 vanilla with strawberry filling.

My cake was $300 and served 100, plus the top tier for our anniversary. It was chocolate/pound marble on the bottom 2 tiers, and chocolate for the top. It was iced in delicious buttercream and so smooth that guests couldn't believe it wasn't fondant! Here is a photo. Smiley smile

Well that's about what they cost in my area. The cakes range from 3.50 -12.00/ slice. It depends on the amount of work goes into each cake. For a plain buttercream iced cake, you can expect to pay about 3.50-5.00/slice. I went to 5 cake tastings and the prices ranged from 850-1100 for 125 people. Fortunately I was able to find a baker whose cake and design work is amazing. My cake will feed 100 and my grooms cake will feed 50. Both cakes were 975, but I'm thinking about adding more cake. I love cake and we are having a wedding weekend.

Where in SoCal are you? If you're anywhere near Riverside/Norco/Corona/Temecula areas... I highly recommend my bakery. Their cake was good enough to satisfy my FH (pastry chef) and they do just buttercream too... Not just fondant.

They're called Pila's Pantry. They specialize in doing the huge 1000 person plus sized cakes, but they also do smaller ones, like for my wedding and birthdays.

@Tiffany L., no kidding! I'm not sure I could pay as much as some of these quotes for cake if it weren't included. I understand that they are a LOT of very detailed work in many cases, but...well, I'm just glad I don't have to worry about this one. Smiley smile
