how much is your wedding cake?

if you can tell me, how much was or will be your wedding cake? we'll be having around 140 guests. i've looked into two bakeries and one quoted me $1100-1500 depending on design. not sure if this is average or way too high. this bakery is highly recommended by others.

Location has a huge impact on the cost of your cake. My cake is 4 tiers with alternating layers of quilting with silver dragees and silver scroll work. It also will have a pink fondant band, and pink gumpaste roses covering the top and cascading all the way to the bottom. I originally wanted a rose and hydrangea mix, but hydrangeas were very costly. Since the flowers are only for decoration anyway, I decided to go the cheaper route and just have open and closed roses of different sizes. I made cuts, but I don't feel like I sacrificed on quality. Food and cake are very important to me.

    Ours was $310

It was a three tier red velvet cake with butter cream frosting. It served about 85 people. The fee included delivery and the cake stand rental. We had the tiers cascading instead of stacked

Our wedding is in NJ. We have a three-tiered square cake...

Bottom layer is yellow cake with raspberry filling

Middle layer is chocolate cake with strawberry filling

Top layer is yellow cake with vanilla and chocolate mouse (I hated fruit fillings when I was little so this is for the kids!)

It will feed over 150 people (they said they always round up) and technically it's included in the venue's catering even though it's an outside bakery. My never-bashful fiance asked what it would cost us if it wasn't included though and it's $800. ($150 of that is the flowers decorating it though... we spent that to have our dream cake since we based the entire rest of our wedding off of a cake we fell in love with. Also, we won't have a cake topper since the cake is stunning without one.)

3 tier square plus 2 sheet cakes of red velvet which will feed a total of 160-180 people (depending on how it is cut) is costing us $225. Best price we found and several family members on his side and my side of the family have used her before and we know she does a great job!

Ours is $12 per person... so it's about $1000 for 70 guests.

We haven't ordered ours yet, but the baker quoted us $45 to feed 125 people with a basic sort of design. I know we're not getting fondant, but I do want tiers, so I'm guessing it will come to about $60.

We love cake, but can't justify spending hundreds and hundreds on it within our budget. So, we're getting cupcakes from a local up-and-coming but totally reputable bakery --- 150 cupcakes will cost us around $250. We might get a little mini cake to put on a stand so we can do a cake cutting, but won't spend more than $30 or so on it.

that's crrrrrazy high! I'm also in southern california. the quote i got was about $420 for 180 people, 4 tiers, 4 flavors. I didn't upgrade any of the filling or flavors though. the regular stuff they offered were fine.

Try Cinderella Cakes or King's Hawaiian. I have 3 friends who are using King's Hawaiian and loved their prices.

I got a discount with Cinderella Cakes through my venue. Have you checked if your venue have a preferred list?

    Good luck!

I can't believe how expensive cakes are. We're having around 300 ppl at the ceremony and have been quoted $1500 for a very simple cake. No way! Instead, we're getting 13" rounds from Sams (multiple flavors) with white icing, decorating each round with one strip of ribbon around the bottom, and displaying them like a spiral staircase. Then we're making 3 different flavored desserts to display around it. That will be a grand total of around $100. I didn't want to blow my entire food budget on the cake!
